What Codec Do I choose for Export?

O.K. I got another one for ya...
I'm getting ready to export back to FCP. How do I choose the right codec? I want the absolute best resolution.

You can't really. About all you can do is use the Apple "calibration tool" and hope for the best. The iMac is great as a standalone desktop computer... I'm sitting in front of one right now. But it is also an island and completely internalized and very few interventions are going to be possible.
The application now known as COLOR was developed and marketed initially as Final Touch with the professional colorist in mind, working with outboard Grade quality monitors.
Accurate color comes with investment.
Setting accurate reproduction with good old 7-stripe color bars is also getting to be a bit of a myth. Nothing indicates if the brightness is correct. Color Bars with pluge helps with blackpoint a bit. You can set "phase" and"saturation", which are almost irrelevant now that we are virtually post-composite NTSC. But as far as gamut-tracking is concerned, totally useless.
Think about it, of the 255x255x255 theoretical values available (at least in 8-bit), you get to see only 7 of them -- RGB, R+G, B+G, G, R+B, R, and B. All at full blast and chroma-desaturated (hopefully) to match 75% NTC. And on a screen ( at least this is true of the iMac LCD) that can only reproduce the equivalent of about 6-bit. Not very encouraging.
But if, on the other hand, all your work is destined for display on iMacs you'll be fine, though.

  • What is the best setting for export movie in widescreen format?

Please tell me what is the best setting for exporting movie in Widescreen format?

Like in After effect we use "NTSC D1 Widescreen Square Pixel".,
Carefully examine the codec and pixel dimensions of that output file. That's certainly easy for an experienced VFX person like yourself.
Then carefully look over the presets in FCP to find the same attibutes. You can also use the online help system for FCP and search for "D1"
However, your question remains unanswerable because we don't know how you're getting to the monitor. What are you playing back you AE sequences on that displays them on your LCD? You're assuming we know what you're doing and, I assure you, we do not.

  • What should be the procedure for  export parameter in CATT

    Hello Everybody,
I am working with CATT, and the transactions are <b>ME21N</b> and <b>MIGO</b>.
when i am executing the transaction <b>ME21N</b> i will get the <b>Pur Ord No</b>in the message, and i would like to export <b>Pur Ord No</b> to the transaction <b>MIGO</b> as thr is one field named Purch.ord no in Migo.
what should be the Procedure for exporting a parameter?
    Thanks,
    Regards Afroz

    Hello Afroz,
If you are using eCATT then following is the procedure of capturing messages in the two recording methods - TCD & SAPGUI.
    => TCD Recording Mode:
In TCD recording mode, after dobleclicking on Interface name from the TCD command in the editor on left side, just before the MSG folder DYNPRO folder will appear on right side.
-This DYNRPO folder contains the screen sequences contain the screen occurred during recording time. The last Dynpro of this folder contains the messages occurred during recording.
-Select this last folder & click on Simulate Screen icon of the same Interface editor. It will redirect to the screen where the message values exist. There select the Purchase Order Number and click on Read Field Value icon. Give the name of Export Variable.
The export variable will contain the value of the purchase order number, which can be passed to MIGO.
    => SAPGUI Recording Mode:
In the SAPGUI recording mode, the screen on which the message appeared will be used to capture the variable name, which is Purchase Order Number in this case.
If the Purchase Order Number is second variable of the message displayed(e.g. Purchase Number 2122323 Is Created)
then use the following code -
    e.g.
    MESSAGE ( MSG_1 ).
    SAPGUI ( ME21N_4001_STEP_5 ).
    ENDMESSAGE ( E_MSG_1 ).
Assing the value from the message to the export
    parameter
    P_EC_PurOrdNo = E_MSG_1-[1]-MSGV2.
There are total four MSGV1-MSGV4 variables. Dobule click on MSG_1 of the MESSAGE statement above. Putting the value in the export variable from the right message variable will give the purchase order number. This can be passed as MIGO.

thats way too vague of a question... best what?  quality? size? playback?
best quality then use high bitrate, small size use low bitrate.

  • What quality to choose for exporting .avi to .m4v

More and more I want to be able to convert .avi files to .m4v so I can view them on my iPhone or iPod Touch.
For DVD conversion and subtitled .avi files I am using Handbrake.
For the .avi conversion, with separate subtitle file, I am using QuickTime Pro and have Perian (the swiss-army knife for QuickTime) installed.
Handbrake works easy on DVD conversion and lets you choose from presets, like iPhone. This results in a .m4v file, about 700Mb that I can put on my iPhone.
The quality is very good, even so when I connect the iPhone to a TV set.
For the .avi export option in QuickTime however, the settings are less straightforward. I tried to convert to an mpeg-4 format, but then the resulting file was only 270Mb big with poor quality.
Does anyone has suggestions for optimum settings in the export?

    The solution is actually easy.
Just choose in the export for "Film to iPhone" and you will get an as big .m4v file as the .avi with good quality and hardcoded subtitles.

  • What Color Space to choose for viewing jpegs on a monitor

After reading many webpages and watching many tutorial videos about which color space to use, I get odd results.  I understand that sRGB is more for web applications, and that Adobe RGB 1998 has a wider gamut, and that ProPhoto has the widest gamut of colors, particularly helpful with printing.
However, in LR 4, when I export to jpeg as sRGB, Adobe RGB, and ProPhoto, the differences are very noticeable.  sRGB looks the most vibrant, Adobe RGB looks flat, and ProPhoto looks dark with a greenish cast.  I expected ProPhoto to look best, or is that only for printing, and I have to process differently?
What am I misunderstanding here?  TIA.

    It depends on three factors:
    1. The monitor - normal, which means with a gamut close to sRGB, or "wide gamut" with a gamut that approaches Adobe RGB (and today there are plenty of medium priced "wide gamut" monitors).
    2. The viewing application and whether it is color managed. In a nutshell, color management translates the image color numbers to eqivalent color numbers in the monitor's color space.
    3. Whether the monitor is calibrated and profiled. In order for color management to work properly the application must know what the image's color space is (embedded profile) and what the monitor's space is (monitor profile). Any display on the monitor is always in the monitor space, but in order for the display to be accurate the translation must be made.
If all three conditions are fulfilled, alll images, no matter what their spaces are, will be displayed more or less the same because they have all been translated to the same display space. I say "more or less" because if the image is in a wide space that needs to be compressed to fit in the monitor space, there may be slight differences in the way colors that are out-of-gamut for the monitor are rendered, but the differences are slight.
Without those three factors, only images in the space closest to your monitor's native space will be properly displayed. So if you have a "normal" monitor, choose sRGB and if you have a "wide gamut" monitor, go with Adobe RGB, but keep in mind that other people with "normal" monitors and without color managed browsers/viewers will not see it properly.

  • 4K footage to DVD: what are the best settings for exporting in Premiere Pro CC v7.2.2?

    Hello everyone!
I am editing a big bunch of short 4K clips (XAVC in MP4) which will then go onto DVDs. The idea is to get as many of those clips on a DVD as possible. Using Premiere Pro 7.2.2 on Windows 8.
What I would like to know is whether I'm actually using the best possible settings for this case, because the video exported to MPEG2-DVD doesn't look that good. Or maybe it needs to be exported to a different format and rather converted to DVD format after?
The sequence setting are the following:
    RED Cinema
    Frame rate: 29,97 fps
    3840x2160 (16:9)
    Square pixels
The export settings I've been using:
    MPEG2-DVD
    Aspect  ratio: 16:9
    TV Format: PAL
    Field order: progressive
    Frame rate: 25
    Video quality: 100
    Bitrate: VBR
1, I've tried different bitrates, also setting minimum at 9, but this blows up the file size too much (as i mentioned, the idea is to get at many clips as possible on a DVD)
    GOP: M - 3, N - 15 (haven't touched those)
Multiplexer: none (should i put DVD?)
    I'm using maximum render quality
Have I given all the information?
    Any help will be appreciated!@

As Ann has advised do not expect too much, you are going down a lot in quality.
Why are you also going from NTSC to a PAL output?
Premiere will drop frames to get from 29.97 to  25.
PAL DVD players read NTSC discs fine as long as they are region 0
Why are you trying to produce a DVD anyway?
A Bluray would be far better quality.
Also a minimum 9 is way wrong, c9.6 is the max in the spec and hence avoided as your system is trying to push the spec limits to close.
I used to use 6 - 7.5 - 8.8 in my VBR and they looked fine, now I am all HD.

  • What setting is the best for exporting Final Cut Express HD

I am new to final cut express HD. I have worked with iMovie and it was very easy to work with and exporting the movie was not too difficult.
I am curious as to what setting should I set to to export a movie file from final cut express HD. I've exported a short quicktime movie clip but it doesn't look as sharp. Could someone help me.

For DVD, export as Quicktime Movie NOT Quicktime Conversion.
You can drop the resulting QT file into iDVD or into Compressor if you are using DVD Studio Pro.
If you have chapter markers, make sure to select Chapter Markers in the export submenu.
Bear in mind that iDVD has a limitation of two hours; even if your movie is exactly two hours you will run into probs cause iDVD counts its menus, themes etc as part of that total running time.

  • What paper type to choose for self-adhesive labels?

Trying to tell my printer that I'm printing Avery self-adhesive labels. But I don't see any settings for label paper under paper type.
What should I pick, "Specialty Paper"? "Other inkjet paper"?

You choose a standard page size. Most labels are on an 8.5x11 sheet and in portrait orientation. So select that size if it's not already the default for the printer.
I've done labels on many Macs and number of printers. Most of the time, a template for the various Avery labels and their clones is available within the program that generated labels. I've not seen a printer setting for labels on any of the 5+ printers I've used to make labels, going back to Mac OS 6.
Example: In MS Word 2008, the is a menu choice in Tools > Labels... that helps you set up labels. The screen will show an image of the layout you selected from the "Labels.." option. Word inserts section breaks and columns that exactly fit the Avery number you chose.
At that point you can fill in each label manually or, even better yet, use The Mail Merge function in Office to populate the labels with info from a spreadsheet or a Word table. It goes so fast that it's probably taken me more time for my challeged typing skills to hammer out this repsonse that to make a bunch of labels!
PageMaker and, later,Adobe InDesign have similar templates.
So what program are you using the make labels?
TIP: I have both a b/w laser and an ink-jet printer. I almost always use the laser for printing labels that will go though the mail. The reason: laser lettering is waterproof. If the the letter has ink-jet labels and gets wet, the ink on the labels will run and be harder for our postal employees to read and deliver.
Note that a laser printer requires a special type of label stock that will stand up the high heat inside the printer.

As my camera is a Sony HDR-XR500V  1080 60i and it is AVCHD
    - First Question: Do I choose AVC-Intra or do I choose AVCHD
I know my camera is AVCHD, so logicailly I would choose AVCHD, but what is AVC-Intra ???
So now I'm going to proceed choosing AVCHD, If I'm wrong, please correct me.
From the AVCHD drop down menu, do I choose "AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic," or do I choose "AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)"
If I'm confusing you please tell me, if you understand... help would be so badly appreciated! :]

-- This is for CS4, and 1 more thing... o.o
I open up CS4, I choose >> New Project >> There is a box that appears and in the "Capture" section... do I choose DV or HDV ???
Then from there, I don't know if I choose AVCHD or AVC-Intra

  • What SSD should i choose for an macbook pro 17inch early 2011?

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=84666 39&CatId=5300
Also i have another question, will this also help with heating issues i have sometimes? for example i use programs like final cut pro x and adobe premire, and apple motion, after effects, and if i do intensvie things it will sometimes overheat, causing some lag in the programs, espically if i work on 1920x1080 footage if im just cutting up clips, i use my SMC fan control alot to cool it down and it helps, but it ***** i have to turn it on as soon as i open up a program cause i know the fans will rise
Also my overheating issues sometimes go into the browsers i use, chrome and firefox, if im on a very flashy website or watching videos, it will heat and my vids and websites will lag and glitch, it ***** i have to use safari cause of this, my only qualm with safari it is not quick enough, pages load slower, and images loading up are super slow, but atleast with safari videos play good, and i dont get any heating up, i will say i had no problem using chrome and firefox, before upgrading to mavericks and now it just heats up and lags,
or does this depends on my video card and ram?
    Here are my specs
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Serial Number  C0******F92
    Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021)

oh and another thing, it doesnt heat up when the programs or browsers set idle, and if im doing not to heavy editing in my programs
    thanks in advance

  • Which codec I should use for exporting to Windows (vanilla instal of Windows (no codecs preinstalled))?

I need info! PLEASE REPLY! I need it tommorow!

If they don't want to install anything, you would have to buy Flip4Mac from Telestream. For SD video, the price is $50, but for HD, it is $180. You would use the QuickTime Export Component settings in Compressor; once Flip4Mac is installed, you will get a WMV option. That is the safest and most simple way.
There are no guarantees but if they install QuickTime Player or VLC, they should be able to play an H.264 mp4.
Alternatively, try burning a DVD or uploading to You Tube for them to play in their browser – or download an FLV file.
    Good luck,

  • What is the best setting for exporting an HD sequence as DV?

I want to make sure that my end product is the highest quality and for some reason I don't think I am getting it. when I play it on my big screen, it doesn't look sharp.
I am doing a project weekly that has 3 movies; one is nothing but pictures trasitioning to music. The second is a corporate TV 30 second spot that I converted to a .mov file (it came to me as a super huge .wmv file). The third is high def with photos to music.
For some reason, when I put all three in the same time line, it freezes FCP. (I guess that is another thread....) So I am doing all three in separate timelines, then bringing them all into DVD Studio Pro.
I do the clips 1 and 3 in HD, but have to export them as apple pro res 422 1280x480 30 because if I go "current settings", it makes it a HD .mov. The reason I don't want this is because in DVD Studio, I can't have 2 HD clips and 1 that is not. (I posted that problem in that forum and figured out that was the reason why the DVD wasn't playing)
So my question: am I down grading this HD sequence the best way? Here are the sequence's settings:
    frame size: 1440x810
    pixel aspect ratio: hd (1440x1080)
    field dom: Upper (odd)
    editing timebase: 29.97
Quicktime Video setting: compressor hdv 1080i60
Also, the fact that a 7 minute movie is only taking 10 minutes to render makes me nervous.......
    Thanks in advance!

    Aubry,
why don't you send your sequences straight to Compressor first, encode your movies as MPEG 2 and AC3 audio and import all assets in DVD studio PRO?

  • What Oracle technology to choose for a linguistic research

    Hi all,
I have a very specific and concrete aim - to build up a database for a linguistic research. In particular I will need to request the words that most frequently stay near the given word in texts in database. In another words - to look up semantic fields.
    So the question is:
What Oracle instruments can be used to upload pretty big amount of textes from web pages to make such queries possible?
    Thanks for replies in advance.

What Oracle instruments can be used to upload pretty big amount of textes from web pages to make such queries possible? If I understand correctly, you need to know 2 things
    1) how can you upload the contents of the web pages whose data is quite large
    2) what can you use with #1 to find words near another word.
I am not aware of any relationship between #1 and #2 - if you use Oracle Text.
    For #1 - you cam use URL_DATASTORE
For #2 - Use NEAR operator in the queries.
    Thanks

  • What resolution do I choose when exporting a png?

I Have created a vector graphic that will be used as an app screen. My document size is 1080 x 1920 (HDTV 1080). When exporting to png, should the resolution be 300 or 72?

I chose the HD configuration because it was the same dimensions I am required to work in, that is 1080 x 1920 for an Android screen.
Can you point me in the right direction to these developer guides? My background is in print, not web, so I have asked this question on the forum in order to receive some practical guidance.
