What colour is the dock adapter?

Has anyone bought a 3rd gen black iPod nano 8GB? Is the dock adapter black or white? I have to buy speakers for a friend's birthday to match theirs which has been ordered but not delivered...

I can confirm - the adapter (like all I have ever seen before it from Apple) is white, even with the black Nano (video).

Noob question about the docking adapter

Sorry guys, a real stoopid question... (but i would like a sensible answer)
How on earth do i use the little plastic docking adapter that comes with the classic iPod? I guess the power cord goes through the bottom of it but is that it? I dont understand the point of it...
Surely its just as quick to plug the power lead into the bottom of the ipod

The little plastic "tray" you get with ipods are only for use with docking stations like Apple's or an iPod compatible radio with a dock/cradle that the iPod sits in. It just helps the iPod sit better in a the dock.
For normal use with just the sync cable, you don't use the plastic adapter.

What happened to the dock in iOS 7.1?

Why do I now have a dull grey slate with my apps on it on my iPhone 5? My iPad Air seems no different except for the keyboard.

Can you provide a screenshot to show what you are referring to? This might make it easier for diagnosing. I have iOS 7.0.6 on my iPhone 5S and am out of town away from my regular computer so I do not want to update right now, and my dock is just a gray rectangle behind the icons on the dock.

Had an Excel file in the dock. When I restarted computer a question mark appeared in the dock. I can't find the file. Where can I find what was in the dock on my Time Capsule

I can't locate it either on my computer or on the Time Capsule . Anyone have any thoughts where the actual file may be located?

Sorry, you lost me.
If the file is on your computer, then you will find it if you open Excel, click the File menu, and click Open Recent.
If you deleted the file before Time Machine saved it, it is gone.
If the file was on your computer long enough for Time Machine to save it, it will be in your Time Machine backups.
Open up Time Machine, wait a few minutes for it to load, and click on All Files on the left side of the window.
Then scan to select a purple bar over on the right hand side of the window to select a recent date when you know that the document was on your Mac.
If the document was saved, then you will see it in there somewhere. Click on the file to highlight, then click Restore to bring it back to the present time.

What happened to the dock icon in safari 6.04

The most recent Mountain Lion update included Safari 6.04. All of a sudden the dock icon looks as bad as google's chrome. When using the magnify option it pixelates all ugly. Did we finally sell out? Is this the way Tim is going to run things? Someone needs to get the axe for this!

Boot in safe mode. This will cause certain caches maintained by the system to be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to boot than normal.
When the login screen appears, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.

Ipod nano 7g plays on the dock adapter but there is no sound

Hi, posting on behalf of a parent. Recently bought the ipod nano 7g and bought the lightning 30 pin adaper. When plugged into the stereo the ipod plays as the song timer advances but there is no sound coming through. Any suggestions what to try. I did advise buying a new adapter in case it is faulty.

Check with the manufacturer of the stereo to see if their device is compatible with the adaptor.

Terminal - what colour should the window be?

I'm having problems with emptying trash and all the suggestions I've had include using Terminal.
The few screen-shots I've seen show a black window but my window is white. Is this ok?

Yes, the Terminal window is white by default. You can easily change the color of the window in Terminal menu > Preferences > Settings. How are you doing with Trash?

Dock adapter- what is it?

This is a stupid question, sorry. In the box I just got for my new iPod, I got a white stand which I assume is the Dock adapter, though I don't see any practical use for it, so what does it do? My iPod doesn't stand up in it, so I'm guessing it isn't a stand, is it for another component I don't have? Thanks!

I just joined this support forum as I'm facing an issue with an older Bose Sounddock Digital Music System and a recent Ipod Nano 3rd generation.
The two devices work well separately. The Ipod Nano works ok dogged into the PC or with headphone. The Bose works ok with Ipod 4th generation.
I found various articles of similar problems on the net, but no resolution. Further the web site of Bose suggests that there is no compatibility issue with Ipod Nano 3rd generation. Any hint would be welcome. Kind regards H

What is the "dock adaptor"?

In the "included items" section of the ipod nano specs, it lists a dock adaptor. Does anyone know what this is?

I just got a Nano today, the dock adapter looks like it should allow you to put it in a larger iPod dock but I couldn't get it to quite fit in mine so I'm not sure exactly what it's for.

I bought a 160 gig iPod Classic yesterday and it came with a small dock adapter (looks like a snap in type item). What is it for? I looked at the dock for my iPhone & the dock for my non-video 60 gig iPod (can't remember which generation--it's color display & does pictures), but the adapter did not work in either dock. Is it meant for docks like the Bose Sound Dock?

Easy peasy. Just lift out the old insert and clip in the new one. Takes seconds.

The Ipod Touch dock adapter!

Uh...What's up with the Ipod Touch dock adapter? I means it's kinda big, while other ipods it fits perfectly into the dock adapter. Is the Ipod Touch dock adapter supposed to be big? I mean there's gap when you put your IPT into the dock adapter. Hm....O_O

2nd Gen iPod fit the dock connector of of 3rd Gen Color iPod?

So I have a 2nd Gen iPod (4 round buttons) dock connector 40GB and want to get the new universal dock with the IR sensory so I can control it with the remote. In the description of the new dock it says it is compatible with my model but doesn't say it comes with that particular dock apdapter. However it says that it does come with a the dock adapter for the 40GB color display. My question is does mine have the same physical dimensions as the 40GB color display model? And so will it fit into the dock adaptors that come with the dock or do I need to get some additional adaptor? I thought that they were identical in size, though on Apples "Identifying different iPod models" page it doesn't list the physical dimensions of them. If anyone knows this that would be great.

okay ... here's what i think is going on.
it's saying that five different adapters come with the dock.
five of the adapters listed in the table have little superscript "1"s next to them (adapters 3-7).
the first of those two "bullet point" notes below the table says "Included with the iPod Universal Dock".
sooooooo ... my thought is that the five adapters you get with the dock are adapters 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
but your 40G four-round-button ipod is a dock connector ipod according to this document:

which i think, according to the table on the Universal Dock page, means that you need a number 2 adapter, and so you're going to have to get an additional three pack of adapters for it.
... that all sounds plausible, but i'd prefer it if someone with both a universal dock and a 40GB dock connector ipod could actually tell us which adapter they have to use ...

Dock adapter missing

web page states "in the box" as ipod,usb,earphones,case,quick start guide AND dock adapter...no adapter in my box..in fact icons on top of box only show symbols for earphones,usb, and guide...I just bought a nano for my girlfriends birthday..apple page says it should have adapter inside..but reading the back of the package it only states..guide,usb,earphones...what's going on!?

I just got a 30GB Video iPod - thought the dock adapter was not included - after reading this thread I thought maybe Apple had deciced to stop including the part and had not yet updated the web and print documentation. Figure a piece of plastic 2.5inches or so long, an inche wide and half an inch thick would not be so easy to miss - but, thank goodness I checked before garbage day - the dock adapter was in the wihte plastic pouch that held either the headphones or the USB cable - not sure which. No icons or other indications that the adapter was included on the packaging.

Universal Dock Adapter Help

I just received my 60gb 5g ipod and universal dock. I am having trouble with the dock adapter and wondering if anyone had the same problems or insight into my problem.
The adapter I got is labeled 9. It seems to be clearly too small to fit the 60gb ipod, looks like would be good for the 30gb. With it in the universal dock...there is only about 2-3 mm of space...which is not enough for the 60gb it seems to me... as far as reference it looks like the adapter that came with the universal dock for the 20gb ipod (#'s 4 and 6). I tried using the adapter for the 40gb and that actually lets the ipod go in and connect. But still not the perfect fit that I am looking for.

Did other people with the 60gb 5g ipod have the number 9 adapter?
