What Compressor To Use In Export With FCE?

My Final Cut Express has no MPEG2 export...what's a good, reasonably priced compressor to use, since apparently it's no longer an option with Quicktime Pro?

This is not reasonably priced, but it is free for 30 days to use so thats not bad if you are in a pinch as I currently am because QT7 removed my MPEG2 encoder from my FCE 2.0 that I used to have when I was using QT 6.?. Bad Apple. I felt that I paid for the MPEG2 encoder the first time so why does Apple have the right to remove it? Good luck in the same problems I am having. I will probably choose to look for a non-Apple created program. I have heard that there are some free ones out there, you just have to look.

  • HELP! What are the settings to export with the highest quality (I will show my project in a cinema.)

    Hello,
I have a project I will be showing at a local cinema, and I need to have the best possible quality for that......
My source footage is SD, so I am exporting it as a MPEG2-DVD project, the first time I exported (with the default MPEG2-DVD settings) and burned it, it looked good (at least on my 34" TV) but I am not sure if that quality will be as good when projected on a cinema screen...
So, what I need to know is, which of the MPEG2-DVD export settings I must change in order to get the quality I am looking for.....
BTW I am using Adobe Premiere CS4 and the whole Creative Suite 4....
    Thanks in advance
    Al

If it looks good on your tv it will look good at the cinema.
The resolution will still be 720x480/576 if a dvd player is hooked up to the projector.

  • Using two displays with FCE

    Hi
I wanted to see if anyone out there uses two screens when editing with FCE HD. I use a Powerbook g4, and wish to use the laptop screen for viewing editing timeline, maybe soudtrack or live type and a 2nd LCD screen to maybe see the output or toolboxes. For example, if you set up dual display mode in system prefs, and do a powerpoint show, the laptop screen shows something different (such as upcoming slides etc.) to what is output to a projector connected to the DVI port.
Is there something like this on FCE? Thanks
    Abhi
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I have now got FCE 3 and answered my own question. For any others who might be interested...if you have FCE and are looking to make use of more than one display, you have two options.
One is to use the OS's inbuilt multi-display options and have the different windows (timeline, viewer, canvas etc.) on different screens, making each one bigger. Or even have livetype open on one and FCE on the other. (Though G4s seem to struggle with this.)
However, a better solution (particularly if you have an HD capable display attached) is to use FCE's Video Out feature (Tools > Video Out). This outputs your canvas in full screen on the second display. It's great to work, and watch a huge full quality version of the final video at the same time.

  • Videos in iPhoto used to export with correct date, no they don't.

Hello, I use iPhoto a lot. About every 6 months I rename and export my photos and videos to a separate portable hard drive for safe storage.
I am doing that right now, but have noticed that my videos do not export with the correct date (changes the date to the export date), and therefore the videos are not going to be in the right order, and will not have the correct date on my backup files. The pictures export properly with correct date. Just the videos are the problem.
This problem did not exist before. What has changed? Is there a way to export my videos and retain the correct date again?
    Thank you!

Thank you for the quick reply Terence!
Is this something new for Maverick, or new iPhoto update? I have always been able to export video with the correct date. Even when I imported it back into iPhoto later, the correct date was there. I think I updated to Maverick after my last renaming and exporting session.
I have found that if I drag the video from iPhoto to my desktop, it keeps the correct date on the file and the video is intact. So there must be some sort of "metadata" in the file that has the correct date?? You probably have the knowledge to experiment with this??
Just seems weird, because for years it was just fine. Now it is not.
How did the videos used to keep the correct date?
    Thank you.

  • What Rendering intent is used when exporting with a different color space?

    Hi,
I would be ever so grateful if any one can tell me what rendering intent is used by LR4 when exporting using a custom colour space as there is not an option as there is with the print module.
    Thanks.

The rendering intent in the Export dialog is Perceptual.
Actually, an RGB color space to RGB colorspace is always only Relative Colorimetric...and adding Perceptual would only work with certain V4 ICC color spaces (you can find perceptual V4 color spaces for sRGB and ProPhoto I think but I'm not sure they would work in Lightroom anyway).
When using an RGB print output profile you can select either Perceptual or Relative and have the intents actually applied.
    True.
The case of interest to me is when I have to print a lot of files using a third-party profile and maintain the original filename so it appears on the back.  That is why I made the request more than a year ago.
The problem with the Print module is that it clobbers the filename but does allow 2 choices for the rendering intent.  Having to deal with weird filenames creates a mess when matching, say, 50 prints with custom notecards.

  • What should I use to export from FCP to DVDSP?

I'm sorry if this question is too basic, but I've searched past discussions and read the manual, and can't seem to find the answer. I am trying to put a nearly hour-long movie I made onto a DVD, in order to have hundreds of duplicates made. I'm using DVD SP, and I had been exporting my movie from FCP to a Quicktime movie file, then importing the Quicktime file into DVD SP. Then recently I came across something online that said you should actually be exporting from FCP to Compressor, then to DVD SP. I've never used Compressor before, so I have no idea what to do, or if I even should be doing it. The video was fine when I exported to Quicktime, but I of course want to have the best video quality possible.. so if there's a way to keep the video at the highest quality possible (higher than when using Quicktime), please let me know (and if it could be explained as simple as possible, I would appreciate that).

    Hi Ryan,
I'm relatively new to this too but you're on the right track. I would export to Compressor.
There are various settings i.e. mpeg2 fast encode, high quality 60min, 120min, widescreen, 4:3 etc and all dependant upon what you want your end result to be.
You'll need to choose your format - I suggest mpeg2 - 60min High Quality Encode > your destination for both the video and audio > 'submit'.
You should end up with a file that resembles *My Movie.m2v*
Then import that file into DVDSP into the assets pane and you're away.
    Good luck!

  • What compression to use when Exporting HD video from final cut pro PAL setting

    Hi there
I'm trying to export my HD video from Final cut Pro so that I can edit it in DVD studio Pro. I initially exported it on H.264 setting however it then gives me the message 'NTSC assets cannot be imported into PAL projects' It was edited with PAL setting so I think it must be the conversion but i'm not sure which option to use.....been really struggling to get the 1 hour footage under 4.5gb without losing too much quality...
    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    thanks

    Just to add two suggestions.
    1) Consider putting your four movies on two disks.
    2) Bring your movies into Compressor and duplicate the stock DVD setting. In the Encoding pane of the Inspector, select a CBR and dial it back to around 6.2 to 6.5 Mbs. In Preview mark a small section and submit; you'll get 2 elementary streams, with m2v and AC3 extensions. Bring that into DVDSP and evaluate results. Adjust as necessary. (This is to avoid waiting out very long encodes and then having to start again from scratch if you get disappointing results.)

  • Using Mpeg2 files with FCE?

    Hi all,
I have some mpeg 2 files that i want to load into FCE. I was told to convert the files with MPEG streamline first, by going to file, export to quicktime, choose Apple DV-Pal and then convert. Then i can import into FCE. I have done this and it works but just wondered if by doing this, do i lose quality or is it the same?? Also, MPEG streamline has an option to "export to DV..." Can i use this instead??
    Thanks,
    Dave.

Whenever you convert anything you lose quality but in this case the loss should be minimal. That is why the ideal is to shoot everything in DV.
Regarding the DV option in Streamclip, I think it may be "DV Stream" which is used by iMovie and can't be used by FCE until it has had further rendering.

  • What algorithm is used by Export module when resizing a picture?

Is it using the same choices as Photoshop (Bicubic Smoother for enlarging, Bicubic Sharper for downsizing)? There are times when I prefer to use Smoother even when downsizing, as the Sharper algorithm results in over-sharpening (to my taste), but there does not seem to be a way to choose a specific one. Are there any workarounds for the lack of choices in the Export module?

Rob, thank you very much for your suggestions.
    1. Yes, I had already selected no output sharpening.
    2. The pictures are not over-sharpened to begin with (at least to my eyes). The issue is that in my workflow I do a bit of selective (or creative) sharpening, beyond the capture sharpening, on the full size file as imported from the camera or the scanner. At this point, I can get prints from this file and everything is fine, I do not downsize for that. However, if I want to post the picture on a web site, or share it by email, I usually downsize it to manageable pixel dimensions (or required dimensions by the web site). This is where I thought the additional sharpening implemented by LR could lead to oversharpening.
    3. I'm not sure I follow you here, but I agree that post-processing after LR has already sharpened the file during the downsizing would not lead to an improvement. Is that what you meant?
I should add that I have not done extensive testing with the LR Export module, so it may well be that, as you say, it does a nice job and it does not cause over-sharpening. I'll try it and see how it does. I was just asking the question because of my experience with Photoshop and the Bicubic Sharper choice when downsizing.

  • What settings to use when exporting HD into QuickTime Movie

This help call goes out to any Mac user with Final Cut. I need help!!!
I have a Mac G5 and use Final Cut Pro V. 5.1.4. I Just bought a Canon XH A1 and filmed a few test shoots. Then downloaded to FC Pro. I have been trying to export using QuickTime Conversion. Every setting I have tried comes out more or less square. HELP!!!!
    My Settings:
In Easy Setup - HDV - 1080i60 FireWire Basic
    Under Sequence the setting is:
    Frame Size - HD (1440X1080) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio - HD 1440X1080
No check mark in Anamorphic 16:9
    Field Dominance- Lower
    Editing Timebase - 29.97
    QuickTime Video Settings:
    Compression - Motion JPEG B
Under Export - using QuickTime Conversion - QuickTime Movie - Options - Video Settings:
    I tied:
    HDV 1080i60 and 50
    Motion JPEG A and B
    DVCPRO HD 1080i60
    All settings come out squarish!!!

    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the info. But I can not get any setting to come out looking widescreen. All settings come out square looking. I have tried every setting I can think of but all the QuickTime exported movies come looking like (i.e.: 800X854) more box than widescreen. I think it must be some setting I do not know about or some combination or possibly the capture setting (easy setup).
    Thanks for your help.

  • What charcterset to use for Thai - with 10 database?

    Hi All,
We have an application with below specification
    Oracle database - 10.2.0
    Forms and reports - 10g
In the front end application using (forms) we are not able to view Thai charactes. The NLS_LANG for form server is AL32UTF8. With this setting we can see Chinese and Japanese characters properly but not Thai.
The reports generated using oracle reports show the Thai characters and NLS_LANG for report server is = UTF8. SoI tried changing the form's nls_lang = UTF8 but no improvement after this change.
Could you please tell me what do I need to change to view Thai characters?

  • What format to use for compatibility with Mac and PC

    Hi!
Just created an HD video in FCPX v10.1.
Is there a sharing option that I can use to get a video file that can be read both on a Mac (Quicktime) and on a PC (Windows Media Player)?

Avid has a free codec called DNxHD. Sort of an alternative to ProRes. It's the only usable one I've found for jumping between PC and Mac systems. It makes very large files however, which is a hassle but not a deal-breaker. (You can control the file size: 8-bit vs 10-bit, etc.).
I use it for workflow issues, before final render, however. If you just want to render a final product that is used on all systems, then h264 / mp4 is your best bet, like others have said.
If you really need a final version that is uncompressed, then DNxHD works. But the codec has to be installed on the user's computer.
