What computer to get?

Hi,
I'm wanting to update my old ibook (I know it's ancient!), and one of the things I want to be able to do is record music using garageband. I have used it before, and love how easy it is to use the built-in microphone, and have some pretty good quality recording. I tried with a G4 some years ago though and could never get it to work properly, had to buy interface, microphone, and still the sound wasn't great. So I'm wondering whether it is best to get a macbook, mac book pro, or imac to get that ease of use that I've had with my simple ibook. Basically i want to record real accoustic instruments and voice, using the built-in microphone, or possibly buying a usb microphone eventually, without all the interface stuff. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any current Mac will be able to run GB with no problem. the slower hard drive on a laptop can reduce the total number of audio tracks (this would be true of either the MB, or the MBPro), though that can be easily solved with an external FireWire hard drive. i believe the iMacs still use full 7200rpm HDs, and for some laptops you cna special order faster HDs.

What computer should I get?

Hi,
I'm trying to decide what computer to get purely for the purposes of using logic pro 7. Also, how much RAM to add, what ghz amount is advisable.
I'm between a G5 or a new intel but I'm really not too knowledgeable when it comes to computers (ignorant musician, ha). It seems like mac is going the way of intel but the ones I've looked at can only accept 2 gb of RAM. If I got the G5 I would probably put 4 gb in. But if you can help me understand what is necessary for smoothly running and using logic pro 7 that would be great.
One thing is that I would like a more mobile system than the G5 for recording flexibility.

Well, the way I see it, and I hope this helps, is that you are choosing between processing power and RAM. When it comes to DAW's if you are using a high number of plugins for tracking or mixing then processing power is a must, and seeing that the new intel machines run **** fast..... Of course if are worried about RAM then maybe you could go the G5 route and back the system up with a TC Powercore or something like. The other thing to remember of course is that the intel machines have a longer forseeable future than the G5. Not sure what your timescale is but you could wait for the Powermac intel equivalent. Could be what you looking for. Also, you must consider what you are wanting to hook up in terms of interfaces etc. Will it be firewire or card based?
It can be a lot to think about, but at the end of the day get what suits you needs and bank balance. Most computers regardless of spec are capeable of behavouring in a professional and reliable manner.

I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

3 years ago I bought an IMac Desktop that I am using for a lot of things but the most important for dvd montage in Imovies and Idvd.
Now today when I opened my computer I get as usual the white screen with the Apple symbol but there were all over the screen vertical lines with green pixels and after a while the screen gets grey and I get message to restart my computer using the power button or the restart button and when I do so each time the same is happening somebody can tell me what is happening and what caused this. This computer is my work and now I have no income anymore.
On the Apple support site they are asking to enter the serial number and when I do so I get message it is wrong but it is the only one I have and I buy this computer in Cairo Egypt. I am living in Hurghada in Egypt for the moment. When I call the technical support of the shop where I buy it they are telling me that it is the hard disk or ram and that I probably lost everything on it and they are asking a big amount to repair.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
   1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
   2. Press the power button.
   3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
      Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
   4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.

In general, you can run this software on any decent laptop..... however.... choose one with a large screen like 17" or larger. You'll quickly find it easier to navigate around with a larger screen with all the buttons and controls.

The game Civ5 processes a turn in single core mode. It says “please wait” while it processes a turn. If the intel i7 CPU is “fourth generation” it is twice as fast for civ5 turn processing. It does not matter if you have more memory or a better graphics chip. So, I can get a smaller cheeper Apple computer as long as it is fourth generation. I tested three new iMacs, two new MacPros and two mac minis.

I have looked at that darned “please wait” message for years. Now it can be 60 seconds on a new MacPro6,1 or late 2012 Mac mini and 30 seconds on a new iMac. Even the 21.5 iMac 3.1 GHz has 3.9 GHz turbo boost for single core and it is supposed to be fourth generation.
Some of that does not seem to true for the new 21.5 inch iMac I just tested (Fusion drive). Mac Mini 54 seconds 21.5 iMac 49 seconds.

It does not magically appear in a new place. It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Try deauthorizing the computer, logging out of the iTunes store, rebooting your PC, logging back into the iTunes store, and reauthorizing your computer.
