What Connector Do I Need?

I have a 2008 Mac Pro (Harpertown) and an LG monitor I got a couple years back.
I am trying to replace the video card with a new ATI 5770 graphics card.
I just don't know much about the necessary connectors etc. So I took a quick photo of how my LG is connected to my Mac Pro now.
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj143/oceantracks/connectors.jpg
The white connector goes to the Mac, the black goes to the LG.
Will I need to order different connectors to make sure I can get to the LG with this new card?
Sorry for being a noob here...I haven't done monitor/graphic card updates before!
Thanks
Tom

Sorry yes, just got the info, the monitor is a W2340VG
and it has the following connectors:
One (1) HDMI
One (1) DVI-D
One (1) 15-pin VGA
One (1) 3.5 mm headphone/earphone input
Thanks!

  • What connectors do I need for my ipad so I can connect it to my apogee duet 2 interface essentially using the ipad as an instrument utilizing a few of the synth and drum machine apps to record tracks into Logic on my Mac?

Ok, so I completely feel like this is a stupid question for those of you already in the know and recording tracks onto your Computers DAW from instrument apps on the iPad and other i devices. I can not seem to find out exactly what connector or unit I need to be able to connect and use my ipad as a instrument to record tracks onto logic. I have an ipad2 that I want to connect to my apogee duet 2 interface which is obviously connected to my Mac. I know Logic comes with plenty of drum and synth options but I still want to be able to use beatmaker, jam up pro and the sunrizer synth apps on some of my tracks. I do have the camera conversion adaptors. So my question is, do I just run from the camera adapter in the ipad into the midi port on my apogee interface? (I'm new to and still learning about midi) Or is there a special 30 pin cable I need to get that runs from the ipad into the XLR or quarter inch in the break out cables on the apogee? I did find one cord out there that plugged into the ipad and had left and right XLR connectors but my duets break out cable only has two inputs each is their own channel. Also , if the cable I need isn't midi  and does connect to the breakout cables, do I set it as an instrument or as a mic in the apogee software? Or am I completely way off base and needing something different all together. Any help would be much appreciated!
I have a fare amount of experience when it comes to recording, set up and the flow of standard instruments, using external hardware and plugins. But the last few weeks I spent a lot of time programming some great beats in beatmaker on my ipad and I want to track them into Logic. It seemed like no matter how I worded the questions when researching what I thought was and should be simple to figure it out, it just took me to answers I wasn't looking for. Thank you ahead of time. Like I said I'm just starting to get out of my comfort zone and learn about midi and the more digital side of things. So sorry about any ignorance concerning that side of things.

The new Apogee Duet for iPad and Mac, is compaible with iOS devices and includes a USB Midi input. This sounds like the perfect solution for your workflow.

  • What connector do I need for air travel?

    Hi all,
I'm taking my MPB on safari with me to Botswana in the middle of May...since I'm going all the way from Canada I have almost 2 days of travelling with 2 10 hour flights. I've heard planes have power connections these days. What do I need to be able to plug it in on the plane?
Flight is with Lufthansa if that makes any difference...don't know if these connections are standardized or what. I also have a 10 hour stop over in Germany, what do I need to stay connected to a power source?
    Thanks!

I have just returned from a painful trans-Pacific trip with my MBP.
Older [ie almost all - Chapter 11] United aircraft have a proprietary eMPower adaptor unlike any other. I had a connector for my Powerbooks from www.smartdisk.com which simply plugged the two together with no brick, but none is available for the Magsafe.
Newer aircraft have 110/220v with a variety of plugs and you simply plug the brick in. I recommend a world travel adaptor set from Apple, though a US 2pin will work - UK 3 pins usually will not.
An alternative is a Targus or similar device which will feed the Apple brick - but be sure you have the appropriate connector. This issue is such a pain it is worth checking with the airline what will be on the aircraft serving your route.
Come on Apple - some of us travel with our portable computers...!?

  • I want to connnect my early 2012 MBP to my LG HDMI. I have the HDMI cable. What connector do I need for the laptop?

Please give me the name of the connector for the laptop. Is it a "display port"?

Note that you'll find two alternatives: one that has a TB plug at one end and a little box with a female HDMI jack at the other or a cable that has male TB and HDMI plugs at both ends. First one gives you the flexibility of using a standard HDMI cable of whatever length you need, at an extra cost. Second simplifies things and eliminates one connection (and possible point of failure), but may limit how far away you can place the computer from the display.

  • What connector do I need for MacBookPro1,1 for a Sony Bravia KDL-32L5000?

I'm a little confused on which display connector I need to hook up my Macbook Pro (MacBookPro1,1) to a Sony Bravia KDL-32L5000. (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=1055 1&storeId=10151&langId=-1&XID=O:kdl32l5000:dg_ggldf&productId=819855292166574629 4)
    can anyone help me?

As you have a 1st gen MBPO, I'd go with a DVI to VGA converter, as per http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8754G/A
If you want sound, you'll either want a 3.5mm stereo to RCA / Phono stereo lead also, similar to this:

  • I have a 7th generation nano, and am interested in the Nike   Ipod sport kit.  However, it looks like the kit only works with older nanos with the 30 pin connector.  What kit or what accessory do I need to utilize the Nike   ipod sport kit fuctionality?

I have a 7th generation nano, and am interested in the Nike + Ipod sport kit.  However, it looks like the kit has a 30 pin connector on the receiver and the 7th gen nano is a lightning connector.  Not sure if the kit will work.  What kit or what accessories do I need to utilize the Nike + ipod sport kit fuctionality in the 7th gen nano?  Do I just need a separate sensor and/or a heart rate monitor? Or is there a kit available for 7th gen nanos?

    Hey SeanW89,
Thanks for the question. The iPod nano 7th generation has bluetooth functionality that can connect to the Nike+ sensor. You do not need to purchase the USB kit, but rather just the sensor itself:
Nike + iPod Sensor - Apple Store (U.S.)
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA368LL/E/nike-ipod-sensor
iPod nano (7th generation): Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5470
    Connect to Bluetooth accessories
You can connect your iPod nano to compatible Bluetooth headsets and other accessories, including some hands-free systems in newer cars. You can also connect to a Nike+ sensor or a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. iPod nano supports A2DP for audio streaming and AVRCP for controlling playback on Bluetooth devices.
Note: FM radio will not play through a Bluetooth accessory.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

    As the topic says,
What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
    Help me out please.

    Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit.  You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.
