What constitutes date on a cell phone?

My husband and I upgraded to iPhone 5 after 2 years with iPhone 4S phones.  In the past 2 months, we have been fighting not going over our shared 4G of data.  What constitutes data use?  We aren't doing anything differently.

And of course, there was no mention of the 4G using more data than the 3G when they were hard-selling us on the iphone 5!  Thanks, guys!
4G in and of itself will not use more data. When upgrading to a 4G device my data usage did not change at all. I have used an iPhone 5 and my data usage did not change when I made that switch. Using a 4G android device, I currently have the same data usage as when on the iPhone 5 and the same as when I had a 3G Droid X.
Face it, when we get new toys, we want to try them out. Trying out all of these features, you may not THINK you have data usage but you very well MAY be using data. Without going thru all of the settings BEFORE playing with your new toy, you can certainly use a lot of data. Taking photos, for instance. We all hear what a great camera the iPhone has and when I first got it, I ran it thru the ringer taking photos right and left. Guess what. Taking photos CAN use cellular data IF you do not check your settings. I took hundreds of photos when first using the phone which WOULD have increased my data usage had I not FIRST checked to make sure those photos were not automatically uploaded to my photo stream unless on wifi.
Every new app you add to your device, you should always check the settings to make sure you are aware how this app will affect your data usage.

What constitutes data usage?  The data usage is over twice what it Has been the last 6 months.
    thank you for the assistance.

Downloading apps, listening to music(streaming) using social media apps, and multiplayer/online games. Email sending and receiving.
Icloud backups and there's a lot more. Imessages uses data and not SMS unless data connection is down.

  • What a long way the cell phone has come

after reading a few of the topics and issues, and believe me i've had my issues as well. i think we should take a few minutes to realize how far the cell phone has come. i know i should be one to talk, i've put in a few comments myself. however sitting here playing with the new toy, i remember when all cell phones did was send and receive calls. now with the iphone we could do so many things that we asked. so with that being said, yes there are a few details that need to be worked on...but while we sit impatiently till then we should all remember how much the cell phone has progressed.

    Hea hea!
Shoot man, in 1992 I paid $400 bucks for a huge brick that worked "sometimes" and .40/minute no matter when I made a call.
To complain about the iPhone is just silly.

  • When I am traveling out of area and purchase and view a movie does it use data against my cell phone service?

When I have purchased a movie for my iPad and I am traveling, does it use data?

Any sort of Internet activity of any type, to any site or service, will use cell data unless your iPad is connected to Wi-Fi. If, however, you mean that you purchase and download a movie, either through Wi-Fi or via your computer, and view it later, then no, once purchased and downloaded it will not require any further Internet traffic.

  • What can Java inside cell phone do?

    hello,
i would like to know what can Java inside my cell phone do? can it:
    1) run in a background
    2) initiate a phone call
    3) send an sms or receive an sms
    4) can it control bluetooth and to what extend
what are things that java cannot do?
    thank you very much!

    Hi,
J2ME apps run in sandbox mode. Things can be done using various APIs. To
    answer your specific questions:
    1) depends on the host device implementation, this is not defined by JCP
    2) AFAIK not (due to security). There might be an API however that allows you to
    do this on certain devices.
    3) Yeah, no problem. See http://java.sun.com/products/wma/
    4) Depends on APIs provided by device manufacturer. JCP defined http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=82.
The things J2ME can not do are mostly features like accessing your phone
book, use built-in camera (unless APIs are provided), floating point math
    operations, ...
Reading J2ME related JSRs from http://www.jcp.org/ will give you the overview
of what's defined and can be expected from all compliant phones. Other
features may or may not be implemented.
    Hope this helps,
    Peter

  • Best Mac compatible cell phone/PDA?

I'm in the market for a new cell phone/PDA and I need some help. I'm currently considering the Treo 700P because of it's smooth, trouble-free integration with the Mac OS using The Missing Sync (http://www.markspace.com/).
It seems like the Treo 700P will do everything I need it to except for allowing me to check and send emails while on the road. Although this is possible with EVDO, I think my carrier, Verizon Wireless, charges about $25 per month for this service, which makes it way too expensive for the small amount of time I'll be using that feature.
Another solution is a device with WiFi capabilities, which will allow me to check and send emails at various hot spots, like hotels. I know that you can add WiFi capability to the 700W, but I've heard that the Windows OS doesn't play very nicely with Macs.
To recap, here's what I need in a cell phone/PDA solution.
    1. Dependable
    2. Mac compatible
    3. Able to integrate with Mail and Address Book
    4. Will allow me to check and send emails cost effectively
Given these parameters, what do you recommend?
    Thanks,
    Kelly

I have a Treo 700p and I love it. I have had it since early September. I sync it with three Macs and it integrates nicely with iCal, Address book, etc. I use Missing Sync to sync. You can get Missing Sync at http://www.markspace.com
I can't claim the 700p is the best smart phone for use with the Mac because its the only one I have tried, but it works well for me.

  • Why one Flex mobile app is installed well and another don't on the same cell phone?

    Hi.
Why TweetDeck app was installed fine in my cell phone but Tour de Mobile Flex don't?
I think that the two apps should be installed fine because they are installed on the Flex plataform on the same hardware.
I installed TweetDeck and all go well, but when I try to install Tour de Mobile Flex, I receive the message "This item is not compatible with your device", and I have to abort the installation.
I don´t understand why. What do you think?

Uninstall... run the Cleaner... Restart your computer... Reinstall using YOUR account

-using the cleaner after uninstalling and before reinstalling will usually help

  • WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CELL PHONE AND TABLET/ULTRABOOK/LAPTOP COMBO?

I’d like to see what everyone here thinks is the best CELL PHONE and TABLET/ULTRABOOK/LAPTOP combination to own this year now that the CES show is coming to a close.  So post up what you think is the ideal combination from what has been announced.  Maybe, just maybe, Best Buy will listen and insure they carry the products we want.
    My vote goes to:
PHONE = Samsung Galaxy Note LTE (unlocked - carrier independent)
TABLET/ULTRABOOK/LAPTOP = Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 with Windows 8 and its’ IPS touch screen
(Posted this in the Cell Phone AND Tablet forums)

    Blackberry 9810
efficient keyboard for quick access to functions.  How many other phones have 26 quick keys to dial a number?
convenient one handed operation on the bus because it has a trackpad
great battery life with the slower processor
user replaceable battery.  You can change a battery for the cost of a good dinner.  Other phones have sealed batteries that force you to get a hair dry to rip the battery out.  Basically they force you to get a new phone....SCAM
durability..... seen too many cracked Apple screens.  Takes a lot of punishment without needing a THICK "bumper"
brightness.... notice how dim iPhone screens are on bus compared to other phones?
data compression.... doesn't  rack up my data plan.  Doesn't have Siri.  Blackberry uses 1/3 or 1/6 the data compared to other phones.  Very important, especially when travelling
BBM saves me money when texting with other international BBM users.
the 9810 sliding mechanism means the phone is compact when not used, but grows in size when needed
the 9810 keyboard does not shrink my viewing area when I'm typing
    Blackberry Playbook
plays flash websites.... i got tired of Apple forcing websites to create an App to work (scam)
fits in my purse and pocket
dual speakers without a dock..... it's amazing the audio quality
    stereo microphones
smart bezel where the frame is an added touchpad functionality
With the upcoming OS update next month, Blackberries can take remote control of the Playbook tablet.... HOT as the phone keyboard can be used as Playbook tablet keyboard and phone screen become a mouse!

what are the settings in i phone 4s for connecting internet in mobile data ?

Did you ever get a reply to this.  I have the same problem.  I have the same problem when even when I reply to an email... no photo shows up in my new reply message.  The only way I have figured out is to use the "forward" option.
But this still does not solve the problem when people email me back... I have no idea what photo they are speaking of.  Instead of a photo... there is a <photo name of some sort>.
Let me know if you ever hear on this one.
    Many thanks.

I believe that it also uses GPS (if it is a devices with GPS such as an iPhone or iPad with Cellular) which does involve satellites.

  • What cell phone/mp3 is compat. with my iTunes files

I need help in choosing a new cell phone/MP3 that is compatabile with iTunes downloads. Has anyone done this? None of the major carries claim to support iTunes.

I transfered an mp3 file via bluetooth, however the cell phone will not play the file unless it is stored on the memory of the phone. I recieved the file, but the cell phone prohibits me from playing the music or storing it. The phone manual says that files can be stored on a micro memory card. Where can micro memory card adaptors or file exchange chords for micro memory be found? What is easier: (1) to install a cell phone compatible music player on my computer or (2) look for a way to install it to a mirco memory card. any suggestions?

  • When on=line banking, or checking my cell phone bill, I can't download my statement or phone bill, the page will pop up, but will remain blank. No problem with I.E. What setting needs to be changed???

When I'm on a secure site, like my bank, or my cell phone account, I can't download my bank statement or cell phone bill. If I click on my bank statement, it will take me to a page with the list of my statement months. When I click on a month, another page will appear that says "about blank", but then nothing appears on the page. I'm guess it's a security setting, or a proxie setting, but I don't know which, or what to change it too. Help?? If I use I.E. (which I hate to use) everything works okay. Same problem if I try and download my cell phone bill from Verizon. Thanks

    Thanks for your help firstly.
No I don't have any firewall that I know of that could affect the Desktop app.  I have reviewed the link you sent across and the results are as follows:
    1. Make sure you can connect to the internet.
Yes, internet is all good... no problems here.
    2. Make sure that you can access secure sites:
Yes, I can access secure sites as tested by the example in the list (https://www.adobe.com).
    3. Check your hosts file.
Test successful after going to: https://lm.licenses.adobe.com
Moving on to reset the hosts file...
I've followed the instructions and I get to "Select the hosts file and open it".
If I simply double click, then the default is to open in TextEdit.
Once open, I go to find File > Save As, but it only says, "Save a Duplicate" and then once I save a duplicate, I don't know where to save it because the Save window only shows the basic folders and I don't know how to get back into the /etc folder from the Private files.
    More instructions please, if possible?
    Thanks again
