What controller do I use with my 15" Macbook Pro Retina to play games like the Lego Star Wars series?

I have a bright and shining new 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display. I did not upgrade the processor or the storage. I want to play games on this great computer, too, games that need a controller . . ie . . The Lego Star Wars series and other action games that require a controller like I use on my X Box 360.
What works? What works best?

It would help to post this in a more proper form. This is for the iTunes family of stores.

I have a solution to this issue now after a discussion with Apple Support. Some where in the last few weeks, there was a change in the key that would do a Show Desktop under the Mission Control settings in the System Preferences. Even though the key sequence that was shown for the Show Desktop setting did not include the Left SHift key, by changing this first to having no key sequence and applying that and then changing it back to the F11 key, the Left SHift key issue that I was having has cleared up.
A second issue that was uncovered was that the SSD had some issues (uncovered when I ran Disk Utility using the Repair Disk key). I had to restart and use the Disk Utility through the Command R sequence to get to the stand alone Disk Utility. The SSD appears to be running better as a result as well.
Hope that this is of use to someone else in the future.

Problems with FPS on Macbook Pro Retina while playing WoW

Hi,
So, just a few days ago, I could play World of Warcraft on a highly populated server with around 30 FPS at all times on ultra graphics. All of a sudden, when I logged in last night, I got between 5-8 FPS if I was lucky, and had to turn my graphics down to fair or even low to get around the same FPS or better as before. Do you guys think this could be software or hardware? I don't really care about not playing the game with full graphics, but is instead worried if there could be something wrong with the machine itself.

You will need a cable or adapter with a minidisplay connection for the MBP. That will be inserted in the Thunderbolt port. The other end is dependent upon the connections of the projector which you have not listed.

I am going to replace my 3 year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro Retina display machine. I have been told by Apple that I can use the Migration Assistant ON MY WIRELESS NETWORK (no cables) to transfer data... I've read this can take AGES.. True?

Is is a good option? I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt! Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours??? I've been hearing these horror stories...

Of course, but note that iWeb will look blurry on your display because it's not ready for the Retina display. To install iWeb, you have to buy iLife '09 or '11 in Amazon or eBay, and then, install iWeb performing a custom install. New problem with display on Macbook Pro retina (Samsung panel)

I am a very new people on your forum but a few weeks ago i bought a new macbook pro retina with samsung panel.
I haven't ghosting effect on my macbook but i have a new and really bad problem.
I try to found a some information on Russians forums but nobody can help me with it.
I can see an artifacts in the form of flashing pixels on all display.
It occurs in 20-30 minutes after the start of work.
Today i try to test it on game Dirt 2 and i can see defects after 2 minutes after start. So i think it can be reason with Geforce 650 but when i back to desktop and use HD 4000 i still see a problem.
This is best seen on a black screen with high backlight.
When i try to connect TV via HDMI i can't see any problem in my TV.
So i really don't know what could be the reason.

Also i have a many software problem like Crashing safari and iTunes. It can be a few times per day.
I really disappointed with my new Macbook.
I haven't any problem with old 2009 Macbook pro with Snow Leopard but Mountain Lion is not working well.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Using lower resolutions on MacBook Pro Retina a good Idea?

Ever since I got my MBP retina I have been having eye strain issues to the point of basically almost returning the unit. I recently discovered that by using the lower resolutions (1280x800) (1024x640) I am having a much easier time and my eyes relax quite a bit more. My questions is does this have any negative effect on performance? I understand I sacrifice space but I just struggle with the native (1440x900). Or perhaps a none retina display would be the option. I just sold my mid 2009 macbook pro and now regret it.

No the performance would, if anything, improve if you use a lower resolution. Although I can't seem to understand how the retina MBP would give you more eyestrain at 1440x900 than your old 2009 MBP at the same resolution? If the problem is the pixel density then it wouldn't matter if you run the screen at native 1440x900 or 1280x800. You would still have the same amount of pixels running (2880x1800).
Well my answer to your question is; no the performance will not be affected.

What things can I do on my new Macbook Pro Retina?

Hello all, I am VERY new to OS (Been #TeamWindows for 17 years of my life). However, I've had iPhones and iPads for a couple of years now, so I'm a pro (No pun intended) with iOS. But OS on the other hand is something else! Now I'm a techy nerd by heart, but I've never played with a Mac for more than 5 mins, and definitely never owned one! So I've had my Mac for about 24 hrs now, and I love it! However, I feel like I'm missing something on here. I know there's TONS of things to do on a Mac, but I need some ideas. What kind of suggestions do you guys have for me? Games, programs, apps, whatever, let me know what cool/fun or nice to do on a Mac that you couldn't do on a Windows. Thanks guys!

I got my Retina MacBook Pro the same day you did, what a coincidence! Congrats on your first Mac computer, this is my fourth one. I bet you are going to love it. There is so much to do on a Mac. If you are a creative, you can use creative software to make movies, music, and picture editing. If it didn't come pre-installed on your MBP, go ahead and download the iLife and iWork suites. They are available for free on the Mac App store. These are tools to create the music, pictures, or videos. There are some pro version applications that Apple sells for these counter-parts, but when I started as a beginner these were the easiest tools of the trade, and they aren't to shabby! I now use Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro for music and video editing, respectively. I don't do much with pictures so Aperture the pro version of iPhoto is not on my new notebook. I do love making music on Logic Pro X (it's like GarageBand "Pro") and I have fun with videos on Final Cut Pro, the pro version of iMovie. I also love to read books from the iBooks store, there is many free titles to choose from, some of the paid books are really nice but most of the free titles are amazing none the less. Which brings me to another point, I love to write, so I downloaded Apples free iBooks Author app and am now currently working on my first full length Sci-Fi novel! It's an amazing app if you have ever thought about writing, it also gives me something to do while sitting in StarBucks in the mornings when I stop by for a coffee before work! The good thing about this app is that you can publish directly to the iBooks store as soon as your projects is finished in a few simple steps. This can make you some money in the future if your book catches on. As for games, let me list a few free ones that aren't too bad on here for you to dive into today! If you like first person shooters go to the app store and download Frontline Commando, awesome game right there. Real Boxing is a fun one as well. Another FPS is Contract Killer2. Eternity Warriors is a simple but fun and well designed RPG. Gun Bros 2 is right up there with it. If you used to play Super Mario as a kid then you should download Lep's World 2. I know, I know, it's just not the same, but hey we're not in 1992 anymore! Regardless it is a very fun side-scroller. Slide Soccer is fun, as well as TouchGrind. If you like puzzle games download Rail Maze 1 and 2. They are addictive so be careful! Also download League of Legends from their website it's a fun Strategy Action RPG type game with a massive community. If you like card games like Magic, Pokemon, or Yu-Gi-Oh, then download Shadow Era from the Mac App Store. These games are all free as well, hope I helped out a bit. You don't need to lose touch with your Windows side on your new mac. Unlike PC's which can't install Apple OSX, Macs CAN install Microsoft Windows. Just get your hands on a copy of any windows software you like and use BootCamp (it's free and comes on every mac) to partition your drive and install it so it can dual boot systems (don't worry you won't lose files or data when doing this or when removing it.) I personally enjoy having Windows 8.1 on my rMBP just because of the fact that I like their new Metro design. If you do this you have the best of both worlds on one great Apple product. Just remember to install anti-virus software on windows because it needs protection just like if it was a real PC. A free one is AVG Free. I would use it along side Malware bytes Anti-Malware. Just make sure you don't accept the free trials on either programs during installation, it can cause compatibility issues and make the Windows system to go a bit crazy some times. Macs have never really had a problem with this, even though there is A/V software for Mac. Every time I scan my Mac I don't find a thing. Sleep/wake Issues With Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13"

I have been recently having issues with the sleep/wake cycle of my laptop. Every time my laptop goes to sleep and I try to wake it up it gets stuck on a blank screen for 3 mins before returning to normal functionality. I have tried deleting the sleep image files and the laptop functions fine for a day and then back to the same issues. I have 3 sleep image files, 2 of them are 1.07gb each and the other one is 64mg. I have deleted them many times and they just come back with the same issues. Any help here would be appreciated. Thank You

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Problems with wifi on Macbook Pro Retina

when I restart my mac the wifi did not connect to my preferred network even the other networks did't appear but when turn the wifi off then on I can connect to my network manully this happened before few hours and I updated my mac to latest version 10.9.4 without benefit can you help me?

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
          Remember networks this computer has joined
is checked.
2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
          Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
3. Reset the PRAM.
4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
9. Reset the System Management Controller.
10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
          Wake for Wi-Fi network access
and
          Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
          Enable Power Nap...
11. Reinstall OS X.

Using Photoshop CC on Macbook Pro retina

Hi, I am a web designer and I am trying to find a way forward in using Photoshop CC on my Macbook Pro (late 2013). I have found posts that say you can open photoshop CS6 in "Low Resolution" however I cannot find the same option in Photoshop CC. Zooming my design comps by 200% surely is not the answer.

I'm having the same problem... I've been combing the web for a solution and nothing in site. I'm on MacBookPro Retina 15" running CS6 13.0.6.
Why can't Adobe PS render at same size as every other program? As a designer, 'lo-res mode' is not an option.
I'm attaching a screenshot of he SAME 480x480 IMAGE in photoshop, chrome and safari.
Can you imagine, as a web designer, how it's hard to work like this? There is no longer the 1:1 ratio that I get from CS6 on my iMac or PC.
Here's a screenshot of the SAME IMAGE on CS6 (at 200%) and Chrome (at 100%)... Pretty close!, but upon close examination, there's pixelation in CS6 side that's not there in the actual image. So, not comfortable with that workflow. I have relied on Photoshop as a pixel-perfect product for ~20yrs... now I can't use it on this machine.
I mean, even when I go to Help > Update ... the PS program's dialogue text is pixelated! Something is very 'off' here. Is this issue fixed in the CC version?
Need some answers, or it's time to look for new options.

You are using Bluetooth if you have got a Magic Trackpad, so it affects the battery. However, it's not a big difference respecting to using the built-in trackpad or a USB mouse, so I wouldn't worry
