What could this be? Cursor freezes for about a second

Sometimes, the cursor freezes for about a second. It does not move on the screen. I checked the log files, but I cannot seem to find any trace of it.
Has anyone else seen this? It does not happen a lot, it happens occasionally.
I have seen it happen in Safari the most, but that is the app that I use the most anyway.

Thanks for suggesting we turn off the "accidental input" option. It's a shame we have to live with the alternative - accidental input - which happens to me fairly frequently when I'm typing. But the mouse freezing was driving me insane.
I found that it was very easy to reproduce. Simple go to a webpage, scroll down the page with the down arrow key, so the mouse disappears on-screen, then try to use the trackpage to move the mouse - it doesn't appear immediately. For me, it takes 1-3 seconds - which feels like forever.

• AR8 freezes for about 40 seconds after start

Hi,
I use SuSE Linux 10.0 on a Thinkpad R51 and I installed the 8.1.1 enu rpm version of adobe reader and I use a dual head xinerama display.
Biggest problem:
Adobe Reader starts up normally and for about 2 secs, it can be used normally. Then, it freezes for about 40 seconds. Nothing is possible in this time. Afterwards, a normal use is possible.
Minor problem:
Everytime I open a PDF document with the Firefox plugin (FF 2.0.0.6), the plugin seems to be loaded and initialised again. This is very time consuming. In AR7, one had to wait for plugin initialisation only when opening the first pdf document.
Is there a plan to fix these issues? Otherwise, I will downgrade to AR 7.0.
Thanks,
Al

Hi Al,
Could you answer the following questions in regards to your problem, for us to better understand the problem scenarios -
Regarding your first problem ---
1. The freeze after launch is happening on "every" launch of the reader, or is it occassional?
2. When the reader window is hung, do you see any sort of progress bar or alert on the screen?
3. If you try to launch the the reader from the terminal, do you see any alert/warnings on the console while the reader is hung?
There is also a small exercise we would like you to do, in order to verify a known issue (you would need 'root' access to do the following) -
* Temporarily rename the folder "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts" (the font folder under /usr/X11R6) to something else (say "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts_dummy").
* Restart acroread a couple of times.
Do you still see the problem of the application getting hung? Please do let us know your observations. Also don't forget to restore the name of the folder "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts" back to its original name.
Regarding your second problem ----
The behaviour is basically due to the browser's handling of external plugins. In Reader 7.0 due to some issues, we sometimes missed indicating to the browser that our work was done, and that is why an instance of the plugin persisted.
This was however corrected and in Reader 8 we now correctly tell the browser when the PDF file is closed. It is at this point that the browser should decide whether to keep the plugin loaded or to close and unload it. And it seems that at present Firefox immediately unloads us after the last document is closed.
Anyway thanks for pointing out the problem. We'll take note of it and try to find a workaround to improve the performance in the future release.
Regards
Salil

• Firefox v15 and up cause my computer (MAC OSX 10.8.2) to freeze for about 30 seconds every 15-30 seconds and forces me to turn it off with the power button

Firefox v15 and up cause my computer (MAC OSX 10.8.2) to freeze for about 30 seconds every 15-30 seconds and forces me to turn it off with the power button. It only causes this after I have opened Firefox, my computer runs fine before opening Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and cleared my personal settings. I have installed future updates (16 and 17) and have run into the same issue. I cannot pull any information on RAM or CPU usage because when it happens it makes my computer unusable. Unfortunately I need to use FF for work and can't. I have tried the different responses on the forums to reduce the amount of RAM and CPU usage with no change in performance.

• Trackpad/Cursor Freeze for a few seconds

Some months back, I bought a 11" MBA to my wife. I have continuously update it and installed all available updates, and now we have problem with the Tackpad freezing for 2-5 seconds after not touching the pad for about 1 minute. (this was not a problem when she first got the machine)
Really irritating when browsing / reading and we take our fingers away from the machine and just read, and then when we want to scroll or click something there is no responds for a short period.
What to do?
(have searched in this forum with no success)
OS X 10.8.2, 1.7 Ghz MBA

For me it was com.telldus.service.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons that caused the problem.
Log in/switch to an administrator account
open Terminal
sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.telldus.service.plist
Other has reported that removing these also helped:
sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.google.keystone.agent.plist
sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.google.keystone.daemon.plist
I found this solution here

• Start up freezes for about 30 seconds

When I start the ipad, the lest-opened ap shows on the screen. The ipad is unresponsive for about 30 seconds before it can be used. Why? Can this be corrected?

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless... Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

• NI Traktor software - Audio freezes for about half second because of Dual Core

Hello,
I've been testing out Native Instruments Traktor DJ Studio 3 and very frequently, the audio and timeline would freeze for about half a second and the continue playing. I also have a good low-latency PCI-card soundcard, so that's not causing these pauses.
I've managed to get rid of this problem by turning off the second processor core in the BIOS setup. However, I don't like the fact that I'll have to do that every time I use Traktor.
Is this a software or hardware issue? Software that doesn't use both cores should be able to run without problems, but apparently, there are some interrupts happening that prevent some programs from running smoothly.
That's why I'm posting here instead of the NI forums.

Hi
It is very nice to make other users to be attentive to this issue but in my opinion it is definitely wrong place. There are much bigger chances that software producer tests own products on different units and hardware configurations than hardware manufacturers.
Usually, the notebook manufacturers are responsible for OS stability and functionality of every delivered hardware component but not for functionality on third part software.
Because of that, try to pick up some info from Native-instruments. If you will find some useful info please let us know. The dual-core units are new on the market and like you can see there are first problems. Every useful info is welcome.
Good luck!

> I restored the pc to factory settings and updated all the drivers but still i get this annoying problem...
Hmmm..... why to update ALL drivers if you dont know why this happen?
You must restore notebook to factory settings, open notepad and test it. can you confirm that this happen immediately after notebook restore to factory settings?
It is not easy to assist with such issues. We dont know which stuff is installed on your notebook, which additional (third part software) applications are installed, which background processes are active, how your OS is configured and so on.
In my opinion some background activity is responsible for this. it can be Microsoft updates installation if you have set it to option automatically. It can also be some antivirus scanning activities. Who knows?
Try to change OS settings and OS configuration.

• Whenever I use the Flash plugin to watch videos, for example Youtube, my firefox freezes for about 5 seconds, then continues to function as normal. This only happens with videos and only in Firefox.

I need help to fix this problem, I've tried re-installing Firefox and flash, but to no avail.

Anyone?

• Very often Firefox stops responding and freezes for about 15 seconds and then resumes

Whether I am on a particular website, searching or playing games I keep getting the screen freezing and at the top bar it says "Not Responding" - this will clear on its own after about 10-15 seconds but then 5-10 minutes later it happens again!

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

• Yesterday I installed "Mavericks" on my two identical machines (office and home, iMac i5 27'' late 2009) and now the cursor freezes for a few seconds after quitting an application on one machine and the the track pad stucks with safari - unsatisfying!

Even the back and forward buttons do not work than. Allover the complete installation process went different on both machines. One started the installation twice immediately after completion. I dont know what's wrong, I never have had such a trouble with Mac OS. I can't help myselfe an I am highly disappointed about Apple!
Markus

After a few Google searches and a few downcasted days, I had to realize that I have to apologize to Apple, it was seemingly not alone their fault.
All trouble makers to Mavericks are accumulated in my environment:
External WD hard drives get in conflict with the nem Mavericks OS X, as well as drivers software from Logitech (LCC), which all is in use with my system.
Delete the WD software of external hard discs and uninstall (use uninstaller) the Logitech control center (LCC) and all is fine again.
Have fun with Mavericks, a just started to love it....

• Thunderbird automatically upgraded to version 24.6.0. Now, when you start it, the program freezes for about 15 seconds before showing mails, etc.

Annoying that the default option is to automatically upgrade, and this automatic upgrade then makes the program 10x worse.

Thanks for everyone's help, btw. Hopefully this will help others who encounter a similar problem.
