What determines a "large" file?

Adobe Send's selling point is that you can send "large" files.  What does Adobe consider a large file?

Anything over 5MB is too large to email reliably or kindly, so that's where "large" starts.

  • What determines where jar files get placed in a war?

Using Eclipse I have imported a WAR with source. I have exported that project as a new war and it ran fine. I then added my own package and exported the war again. The jar file does not show up in /WEB-INF/lib folder. When I deploy the war on a tomcat server it barfs the following error:
Caused by: org.springframework.beans.factory.CannotLoadBeanClassException: Cannot find class [com.sharpline.fields.form.fields.TextAreaFormType] for bean with name 'com.sharpline.fields.form.fields.TextAreaFormType#53c37' defined in ServletContext resource [WEB-INF/activiti-standalone-context.xml]; nested exception is java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sharpline.fields.form.fields.TextAreaFormType

It looks to me like my class (jar) is missing in the final war. I am new to this and have searched, I just don't quite know what to look for. How do I resolve this?

extract the war which you had deployed on tomcat and see if this jar is present there, if not then your war file packaging is not proper.

  • What determines how a PDF or EPS file is opened??????

Hi I was wondering if anyone can tell, what determines how a PDF or EPS is opened in Photoshop.
If I open a PDF in photoshop, the first thing that pops up is the settings for which you want it to open. i.e., color mode, resolution, you choose what you want and then open.
I always thought that how the file was created determines the initial settings in which photoshop displays in that little dialogue box. (for example, if I open an illustrator eps file that I created in photoshop, it always prompts the correct settings (300dpi, CMYK) I click open and it works great.
But when I open a PDF in photoshop it always displays the color mode as RGB, not cmyk. Which i find odd, because I know there is no RGB color space in the PDF.
Today something weird happend, I created an Ad in Indesign, every image I am certain was 300 dpi, and the rest are vectors. Exported it to PDF with high resolution settings, but when I opened it up in Photoshop, the settins dialogue box promted it as 72dpi, which again I find odd because I know each image is 300, the rest are vectors, and I know the PDF preset to which I exported it creates high res images.
Does anyone know what determines how a PDF or eps file is opened in Photoshop and why photoshop is rendering a PDF in which I am certain is hi res, to a low res?
    Thanks for any help. Kevin

    >Hi I was wondering if anyone can tell, what determines how a PDF or
    >EPS is opened in Photoshop.
Nothing, really. EPS provides this info openly in its header, but it is not always right, so PS cannot even assume it would be correct to use that info. For PDF it's a different story. PDF is a container format that can contain any number of items in mixed resolutions and colorspaces, hence PS cannot assume anything. Likewise, you can have multiple pages, links, multimedia content, all of which may influence the result upon display or rasterization...

Do you ever visit a friend or realtive with a Mac who has faster internet? Maybe the local library has Macs on a fast line. If so, get a USB thumb drive and put this link on it from your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then put this link on the drive:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
When you are at some place that has a Mac with a decent download speed. insert the thumb drive in that Mac and click on the first link ("DL1399") and direct the download to your thumb drive. Now do the same this with the second link.
The installer files will now be on the thumb drive and, when you get home, drag them from the thumb drive to your desktop. Install the Combo update first.

  • I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?

I am trying to save a large file on Illustrator CS6 and it does not save and instead says "Unknown Error Occurred." What do I do?
The file has 4 artboards with webpage designs. I tried to take two of the artboards, create a separate doc with those two, and save, but the result was the same.
However, I am able to save simpler, smaller files.
I need to not lose these files and I am afraid to quit and restart and lose my unfinished work.
    Any advice?

What happens if you choose this option?

  • Testing iMac in store I checked iPhoto editing. Photo said to be 42Mb but zooming caused immediate pixellation, so clearly was not displaying a 42Mb file. When I zoom in PS on PC a large file retains detail for a lot of zooming. Whats going on?

While testing a MacBook pro in the Apple Store, I checked iPhoto. Looking at what was said to be  42Mb file I noticed that zooming caused immediate pixellation, so clearly a 42Mb RAW file was not what I was looking at. In my PS Elements on my PC when I zoom, the photo remains unpixellated until quite a lot of zoom is used (marked as 100%). This depends on the file size of the photo of course. Maybe the displayed photo in iPhoto is a low res. jpeg. This is not too good for me. I wanted to see how the base model of MacBook would handle photos esp large files and I need to zoom in. Will the base model cope with this in PSE for Mac?

iPhoto will happily zoom to 300%. The quality at that magnification will depend on the quality of the image.  But if it's a sharp image - of any size - it will zoom to 300% with no problems.
PSE for Mac has nothing to do with iPhoto. I have used it with no problems, but for best information why not ask over at the Adobe forums?

  • I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

Reformat the external drive to exFat, Windows & OSX will be able to read & write to it, if Windows is not involved reformat to HFS+ and your Mac will be able to read & write to it, either method will have no problem with a 7G file.
Is it a video file? if yes it is already compressed so don't bother trying to compress it further.

  • What determines the file encoding for ${C:file.txt} = 'abc' ?

What determines the file encoding for
    ${C:file.txt} = 'abc'
I'm always getting ASCII as the encoding for file.txt after executing that assignment.

Thanks so much.   I'll keep looking for the MSFT doc on this.  I scanned Bruce Payette's book and did not find anything there.
It turns out to be one of those "by rote" things you have to learn about PowerShell.
My concern about the lack of documentation is that MSFT might change the underlying code in the future to use Unicode and that might break some existing code.  If there was some MSFT provided documentation declaring ASCII as the intended encoding they
might provide plenty of warning if they do a switch in encoding.
I note also that if you try to write characters outside the ASCII set (see example below) that character substitution happens to find an ASCII character to use in place of the one outside the ASCII set.  In the example below a 'v' is substituted for
    the '√' character:
    ${C:xo.txt} = '√'

These are MP4 files from my Canon vixia HFR40
What software are you using to edit the material?
    I am using iMOVIE 9.0.9
What do you want to do with the files after compression? I want to email I need to have the file be smaller than 100MB to send.
I am an actor and I video tape my auditions and send them to my agent so I need Highest Quality HD files that have small file sizes, no more than 100MB.  The scenes are like 1-5 Mins long in most cases. Thanks for your help.

  • What's the best way to transfer large files to a fellow Mac user?

    … ftp, file sharing, dropbox…?

    Is this a one-time transfer?
If so, what is your email file size limit?
Depending on the limit, try Compressing the file.  If that doesn't work, try splitting the file into smaller chunks with Tar.
In Terminal (assumes file is on Desktop, if not, just change cd)
Note: don't use full path in filename unless you want it stored in the Tar
This will break the file into 10MG chunks (-L10000):
      cd Desktop
      /usr/bin/gnutar -L10000 -cMv --file=tar_archive.{tar,tar-{2..25}} [FileToTar]
to Extract on the receivers end:
             /usr/bin/gnutar -xMv --file=tar_archive.{tar,tar-{2..25}}

  • IMac disconnects when downloading large files

The internet on my iMac is a wired connection, hooked up through my router. It works perfectly fine and never disconnects while I'm browsing, playing games, or anything like that. When I download small files, things are still fine. Whenever I download something that takes more than a few minutes, my connection will shut itself off like clockwork. It then takes a minute or two to kick back in and resume, but then after another few minutes it will disconnect itself again. It isn't my ISP, since my laptop (Windows 7) downloads fine on this same network. My iPhone and iPad also have no problem downloading large files on this network either. What could be causing this strange issue with my iMac?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • [BUG] Performance Issue When Editing Large FIles

Are other people experiencing this on the latest JDevelopers (11.1.1.4.0 and the version before it) ?
People in the office have been experiencing extremely slow performance happening seemingly at random while editing Java files. We have been using JDev for almost 10 years and this has only become an issue for us recently. Typically we only use the Java editing and the database functionality in JDev.
I have always felt that the issue has been related to network traffic created by Clearcase and have never really paid attention, but a few days ago after upgrading to the latest version of JDev, for the first time I started having slowdowns that are affecting my speed of work and decided to look into it,
The main symptom is the editor hanging for an unknown reason in the middle of typing a line (even in a comment) or immediately after hitting the carriage return. All PCs in the office have 2Gig or more RAM and are well within recommended spec.
I've been experimenting for a few days to try and determine what exactly is at the root of the slowness. Among the things I have tried:
o cutting Clearcase out of the equation; not using it for the project filesystem; not connectiing to it in JDev
o Not using any features other than Java editing in JDev (no database connections)
o never using split panes for side by side editing
o downloading the light version of JDev
o Increasing speed of all pop-ups/dynamic helpers to maximum in the options
o disabling as many helpers and automations as possible in the options
None of these have helped. Momentary freezes of 3-5 seconds while editing are common. My basic test case is simply to move the cursor from one line to another and to type a simple one-line comment that takes up most of the line. I get the freeze most usually right after typing the "//" to open the comment - it happens almost 100% of the time.
I have however noticed a link to the file size/complexity.
If I perform my tests on a small/medium sized file of about 1000 lines (20-30 methods) performance is always excellent.
If I perform my test on one of our larger files 10000 lines ( more than 100 methods) the freezes while editing almost always occur.
It looks like there is some processor intensive stuff going on (which cannot be turned off via the options panel) which is taking control of the code editor and not completing in a reasonable amount of time on large Java files. I have a suspicion that it's somehow related to the gutter on the right hand side which show little red and yellow marks for run-time reports of compile errors and warnings and haven't found any way to disable it so I can check.

    Just a small follow-up....
It looks like the problem is happening on only a single Java file in our product! Unfortunately it happens to be the largest and most often updated file in the project.
I'm still poking around to figure out why JDev is choking consistently on this one particular file and not on any of the others. The size/complexity is not much bigger than the next largest which can be edited without problems. The problem file is a little unusual in that it contains a large number of static functions and members.
    Nice little mystery to solve.

  • Fastest way to do a bitwise comparison of 2 large files

    Hello All,
I have two relatively large files (memory dumps) of approx. 1 MB. Both files have the same size.
I need to do a bitwise comparison of both the files. (one is the reference file, the other is the measured file)
What is the fastest way of doing this? I need to know how many bitwise differences there are.
I need to present the user with a percentage of how good the match between both files is and also the number of differences.
Mayby later on I also need to list the differences.
I was thinking about opening the files in binary mode, reading them out and converting them to boolean arrays and with the autoindexing of for-loops determining if there are differences. Probably there are much better ways for doing this.
    Your help is greatly appreciated!
    noxus.

OK, here's a quick draft (LV 8.0) of what I meant. I assume you know how to read a file as U8 binary array, so let's start with two U8 arrays of equal length.
The lookup table needs to be calculated only once, then you can replace it with a diagram constant. Still, it is very cheap to do.
I doubt you can count the number of bit differences much faster that this.
DIsplay all arrays in binary so you see what's going on. (# of differences" should probably be labeled # of bitwise differences").
