What determines what video layer will get Pasted files?

I once knew, now i forget! Sorry, easy Q for pros.
say i want to copy and paste a video file-- how does FCP decide which level (v1,v2, etc)to copy that info on?
Thanks again guys.
-Mike

AHA! Thanks for the answer. SO here's how it works for everyone else:
the Auto toggle select button, which is simply a filled in circle determines which level gets the information pasted in:
Therefore, if the toggle switch is unchecked (left blank) on V1)and filled in on V2; V2 gets the info and so forth when pasting.
Thanks again,
-Mike

congratulations to LR users, now what future ACR will get out of that ?
are we getting LAB readouts in ACR8 at least ?

well... history shows that not all UI features (related to raw conversion) available in LR are available in ACR... for example ( if I am not mistaken - I do not have LR ) - WB tool, UI-wise it is a little better in LR than ACR (you can see what pixels are selected in a magnified view in LR, right ?)... speaking of which the mere fact that I need to zoom in/zoom out in ACR to control (roughly) the area (size) used for WB sampling is not a good idea... why we can't just select a rectangular area (in addition to click) for sampling or at least have a tunable (pixels x pixels) size of WB tool and have it the same way as in LR ?

  • What video cards will the p7-1423w support?

I would like to upgrade my video graphics to something that will support Witcher 2.  I picked up a video card but then realized the power consumption is too great for this pc.  Any suggestions on what card I can get that will support this type of graphics?  (It is a windows 8 machine if that makes any difference.)
    Thanks!

    Hello Leach69,
There are two things to consider when purchasing a video card. The slots that are available in your computer and the power supply that is already in the computer. If you are looking to play modern games you are going to need a good video card, as you already know. I would suggest that you also consider upgrading your power supply to something that provides more power so that you can use that card that does use more power consumption.
Upgrading the power supply is also going to give you the freedom to do other upgrades in the future if you choose to do so. The power supply that is currently in your computer is only 300w from what I can tell, this means you are going to be extremely limited.
I'd suggest upgrading your power supply to something around a 550w - 600w then you can get just about any video card you want as long as you have the slot for it.

  • How do I know what video card will be compatable?

Hi,  I think I need a new video card, but I'm really not sure what new card will be compatable with my computer , an HP m9077c that operates with Vista.I see it has an Nvidia Geforce 8500 gt in it now, but looking for new ones to buy I see things like (XFX PVT 86JYAHG GEforce 8500 GT 450mhz 512mbgddr2svideo/dvi/vga/pci express16 ) for $35 , but then I see right next to it plain old GEforce 8500 gt for $111. What's the difference?I just want a replacement, it doesn't even have to be the same brand, as long as it will work as well or better. How can I tell which one will be compatable?

    Hi:
I would go for a newer video card like this one.
It should perform along the lines as your 8500 or better.

  • HT4241 What video settings will I need to change on my mid-2009 Macbook Pro?

I am trying to send Audio/Video to my mother's T.V. using a third party combo cable(item # 6331), from monoprice.com. We have a 'Mid-2009 Macbook Pro. I can get the Audio with no problems. I tried all of the different resolutions on the Macbook and the closese Video image I can fet is a vertical sliver in the upper left hand corner of the T.V.(52'' Sony Bravia Model # unknown, mounted on wall) Please help. Mothers Day is coming up an All My Childeren is coming back, but will be on Hulu. Thank You

The tech specs list the upgrades that were available from Apple when that model was being sold new. They don't necessarily reflect the aftermarket-upgradabaility. I don't believe there'd be any reason you couldn't put a hard drive/SSD of whatever capacity you want in that MBP (of course it needs to be the right physical size).
That being said, it's good practice to make sure you have a window to return it just in case.
    Yeah what Bob said.

  • What video camera to get????

    Hi all,
I've dug through the posts and can't find an answer yet....
I am trying to choose a new video camera. I am using a MacBook Pro, 2GB, 2GHZ. I plan on using iMovie HD 6 since 08 is missing so many features. I've been given a budget of $500 and could probably add a bit more for the right camera.
I want a hard drive based camera since mini dvds are out due to the slot loading drive and tape just doesn't hold enough video and I don't want to carry around extra tapes.
I know Sonys don't seem to play well with Macs. What brand/model would everyone recommend for the money?
I am getting this camera primarily to have a friend video my wedding, then we are going to keep it for family videos. Probably nothing professional or for profit.
Also, I know iMovie 08 is compatible with more cameras than 06. Would it be possible to import with 08, then edit in 06?
    Thanks,
    Kris

With regard to reusing tapes. You can buy quality tape fairly cheaply, especially if you buy it in bulk online, say from B&H Photo. Stored properly, tape will probably outlive you, but you shouldn't reuse them more than a few times, if at all, according to many users. Of course, you may wish to archive every tape you shoot, if it is family footage. I will use a once used tape to do an archive of a finished movie by exporting from iMovie back to tape. Your tape heads will last longer and more importantly, stay cleaner longer, if you reuse tapes infrequently.
With regard to buying "old" technology, you should read the posts by David Babsky in a recent thread titled "Video camera recs". Just because tape is an older technology doesn't mean it is going to disappear. It is still superior to any other format on the market and is still the preferred choice amongst professional videographers. You are buying into the manufacturers hype over hard drive convenience.
Capture time from DV tape is real time. A 60 minute tape takes 60 minutes to capture.
If possible, get the Sony HDD cam owner to give you the cam, instead of having him transfer it to DVD. Every conversion results in some degradation of quality and you will be converting that cams info several times in the process of going from HDD to DVD and then finally to DV on your Mac. Better for you to capture the video from his cam to iPhoto or Image Capture and then do the conversion to DV with MPEGStreamclip. The fewer format conversions the better. Hope that helps.

  • I have a p6240f. what video card will run battlefield 3 and run on my cpu.

i have a p6240f. what do i need to do to run battlefield 3 and mw3

    Hi,
You might want to review the system requirements for Battlefield 3.  I don't believe that MW3 is on the market yet although it can be preordered.
You will also need to upgrade the power supply.
As for a video card, I would recommend the AMD Radeon 6850. It's $130 after rebate.  The Corsair CX500 is a quality power supply priced at $40 after rebate.
These are the motherboard specifications for your PC.  The slot adjacet to the PCI-E x16 slot needs to be vacant.

  • What Video Formats will iDVD5 import?

Apple's website is not very clear on this.
Will it import anything other than DV?
Will it import all QT codecs? MPEG2?
    Thanks for any help,
    Ross
P.S. My search here did not find it either.

I'm late to this thread - so maybe this is for Those Who Come After.. - but, I found this all a bit hard to follow & still can't figure out why Sheila's buying Toast (a great but not cheap product) to make DVDs with all the 'fancy bits' when she already has a superb, free product that does precisely that.... iDVD. (Compared to most of the other software I've used to do this stuff iDVD is so User-Friendly I've taken it home to meet Mother ..
In a general answer to the original question - and related -, (HDVid,pics/extras aside)
b all the iDVD/ iMovie products were designed to take Digital Video,, i.e. DV from a compatible DV Cam (or precisely-formatted DV files which came from DV from a compatible DV Cam...) work with it and produce various output or Delivery products (whatever else the Docs etc. may suggest).
Ignoring pictures, iDVD takes in DV, allows extensive easy user customisation and produces DVDs after 'hidden' transcoding To MPEG-2 and creating the full DVD structure itself. (you could start from lots of other formats, transcode to a DV file and use iDVD from there but the results will likely range from bad to unviewable - if your Dad sends you an MPEG2 file, that's what you'll have to do to use iDVD - and chances of the transcoding screwing up are high - in my experience of the huge variations in file format/quality/bug level etc on PC-encoded MPEGs).
Best approach for iMov/iDVD (or almost anything else...is as suggested by our friend above):- have him send you a DV Tape copy, access a cam for a couple of hours and use iMovie to Capture as a DV file and proceed from there .... as you encounter the inevitable roadbumps (buy some DVD-RW.. you'll always have the original, full, highest-quality DV to go back to.
Toast (and DVDSP & other DVD creator/author tools) require solid, standards-compliant MPEG-2 as input (but I refer you to my comments above). There are a number of tools that'll do the DV->MPEG2 transcode on the Mac. They vary in quality, speed, price...... (you can't easily use the 'hidden' iDVD stuff last time I looked...).
To put it less technically, e.g. Mpeg-1 is mostly pretty small and pretty poor quality. "Enlarging' it in transcoding to DV is just going to give you a LARGE, bad-quality picture... - [an extreme example, but transcoding UP or 'across' - in 'quality' - is always bad. Transcoding DOWN from hi-quality DV to MPEG-2 for Delivery on DVD (e.g.) can be quite good - which is why you always try to do it ONCE and do it last.
[Perhaps it's not obvious to people, but most of these formats 'throw away' huge amounts of data/picture information: 2hr DV is about 30Gig... Transcoded to MPEG2, it may be 4. That's 26Gig worth of picture info that just isn't there anymore....]
For anyone working with this stuff, I recommend some Googling for info/tutes and FAAQs on Capture, editing and Delivery CODECs (CODECCentral used to be one....)
b 1 line summary: wherever possible, start with hi quality DV (or better), edit/play about in that, last, transcode to Deliver in whatever suits.
    Best wishes.....

  • Strange error when trying to sync video and cannot get past HELP!

My Ipod (and I have another one as well, a photo that works just fine with everything) will simply not sync all the way. It works until it encounters an error, and then quits. This ipod, a 60 gig video does this as well as another ipod I have, a 30 gig video. Yes I have 3 ipods, its crazy.
It happends EVERY time it gets to 30 days, Immigaration. I have tried not syncing it but it still happens again later, some of the videos will download though.
    The error message is:
These are regular videos that I bought through ITUNES.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    dell 9300   Windows XP

I can't recall ever seeing an error -93. These are two of the most common.
Error -36, disk cannot be read from or written to error syncing iPod in iTunes.
iTunes displays error 69 when syncing iPod.
"It happends EVERY time it gets to 30 days, Immigaration."
Could you explain what you mean by this.

  • Video Layer will not show up

I am working on a HD 30 min show (1920x1080) with FCP 6. We have incorporated some Photoshop and After Effects graphics. When I plug them into the time line and render the effects the graphics will not appear either on my computer monitor nor my TV monitor. When I move the graphics to un-render them, they show up again but then of course I can't play them. Audio plays fine as does the video underneath the graphics.I am guessing it's just a hardware thing, but the system is brand new and I am still new to FCP. And advice or suggestions would be great, thanks.

Never mind!! XD I just updated my laptop and there was an update for Lion. Now I don't have issues with viewing. The two websites that I was struggling with was, EWTN live TV stream and WGN news live stream. Now both are okay!!

  • How can i determine the order automator actually gets the files?

    Hi,
I'm a newbie so excuse my probably simple question, but I have a problem using Automator to change the names of files.
What I'm trying to do is using Automator to rename files that are in a specific order and have to stay that way. I'm trying to use the "Make Sequential" option to rename the files and add numbers after the filename. Everything works out fine except for that Automator somehow shuffles the files I give him before numbering them.
    Here's what I do:
-select files in Finder and add them to Automator
    -create my workflow
-sort the files in Automators "get"-window by name (which is the order they have to stay in!)
    -and start the workflow
the problem is that my files come out renamed and numbered just fine... but it always messes the order up!
how do i properly tell automator which item to start with so that the order stays in tact??
doesn't it just use the files in the "get"-window from top to bottom?
Thanks a lot for your help!!!

Hi, are you still on 10.4.x?
Automator is a bit different in each OS, not sure this will help, but take a look...
