What did this do and why did this work?

I don't know if it was iTunes 10.5 or Internet Explorer 9, but I could no longer open the iTunes store. I uninstall Norton and still no luck. I was able to get into the store on my husbands computer also using windows 7, Internet Explorer 9, iTunes 10.5. So I decided to try the cmd_netsh winsock reset catalog enter netsh int ip reset.log enter. After I rebooted, I opened iTunes and the store opened right up and I was a shopping. Now can anyone tell me exactly what I did and why it worked? Just so I'll know in case it happens with another upgrade (and you know they will have one).

Essentially, you're resetting a registry key to its default settings. The settings changes you're reverting might have been inadvertent (due to damage to the key), or might have been deliberately made by a third party program that monitors internet usage (by instituting a Layered Service Provider on the PC). So making the change will possibly impact on the software that set up the LSP.
