What diference between JAVA TV, OCAP, Xletview, Cardinal Studio, Espial...

I am newbe in digital TV area, and one of my great doubt is in relation the most diverse acronyms and names that appear, carrying would like that they clarify me some doubts.
Which the difference between as many implementations that they exist today, for example: JAVA TV and OCAP?
The Xletview is an implementation freeware of certain the Dvb-mhp standard? What your relation with JAVA TV?
This Dvb-mhp has any software release or is only one consorcium that it defines rules for digital TV?
What are the best simulator today to test applications for Digital TV? Currently I am using the implementation of devicetop.com but it seems that it is not complete, that is truth? Because it is not complete, what it is lacking?
Sorry for many questions.

First of all, sorry for the delay in responding. I've been buried under a mountain of work for the last week,and so this is the first chance I've had to check in here for a while.
Some more details on the book:
- It'll be published sometime before Christmas, hopefully. The manuscript has been delivered to the publisher, so now we have wait for them to complete the technical review, then we have to make any changes that they need (or that we wantot make). Then it will actually get published.
- As far as I know, it will be available worldwide, and you will certainly be able to order it via amazon.com
- I don't know the price yet
- It will cover OCAP, MHP and JavaTV, with some discussion of ACAP (but not much). We're looking at most aspects of these standards: building applications, building middleware, and how you can make money off them
- It's based on my website, but with some MAJOR changes. It's probably going to be around 600 pages long, so there's a lot of new material there. I've tried to cover as much as possible about the questions that people have been posting here and on the MHP forum, as well as the questions I get in email, because these are the areas that peopole want answers to.
- I can still make some minor additions, so if there's any questions that you'd really like to see answered, please let me know (email to [email protected]). I can't promise to answer them in the book, but I'll do my best and I can always cover them on the website.
- I'm the author of the technical bits. My co-author for the more commercially-oriented bits is Anthony Smith-Chaigneau, VP of business development at Osmosys and ex-DVB. He knows the commercial side of MHP/OCAP as well as anyone out there. I've been doing MHP/JavaTV since the early days of the standardization process for those standards (and standardizing DAVIC before then), so between us we've got a pretty good grasp on the material and the commercial/political/technical background to the various standards.
- There is no mailing list yet, but if people think it's useful then I can create one. Let me know what you think.
To answer funniest's questions, your list covers most of the things that you need to do to implement an OCAP receiver. Some stuff like storing applications is missing, but this comes under the general case of 'application management'. Of course, there is all the other OpenCable certification that you need to do as well, but that's not specific to OCAP. I know that OCAP are discussing conformance testing, but there's no firm decisions yet as far as I know. Maybe they will follow the MHP approach, or maybe they'll extend their 'Wave' certification program. This is also one of the areas that OCAP and ACAP need to agree (because of the OCAP APIs that are re-used in ACAP), which complicates things.
As for other OCAP activities, there are a few OCAP trials underway in various places in the US. I can't say too much about them, but I know that many cable companies are looking at OCAP, even if they're not running trials yet. The Sun OCAP content is the only activity that is generally open to the public at the moment, as far as I know.
Steve.

  • Diference between Java Card Operating System and java card?

    operating system is inside the ROM, but are the JCVM, APIs and JCRE inside this ROM too?

    Even if you found it, how are you going to get the cards ? How will you get the tools to put the JCRE/JCVM into ROM and start it ? What about the card OS and native methods ? How are you going to engineer that ?
    The cost of all that outweights the benefits of just purchasing the cards already loaded !
    Just my 2 cents

  • Diference Between

    Hello, im from Brazil. Iam a new java developer,and i have a doubt.
    Sorry, my english is bad, but...
    Whats diference between Java Interface and Abstract Class and method?
    thanks

    Abstact may have abstact methods or methods that are implemented.
    Interface have only abstact methods. Although methods will not have 'Abstact' identifier, they will
    be abstact method by default.
    When you want to inherit from parent class, if parent class is Abstact Class,
    we will use 'extends' keyword. For Interface class we will use 'implements' keyword.
    Both Abstact and Interface can't use for new instance if you don't implement Abstact Method within them.

  • Whats is difference between Java JRE  and  Java SDK

    Hi,
    what is the difference between Java JRE and Java SDK...
    i think both of them have the same set of files to be installed...
    I am not able to understand where they differ

    The JRE (Java runtime Environment) contains just the stuff necessary to run Java and the SDK (System Development Kit) contains the extra stuff necessary (and also helpful) to develop in Java.

    What is the diference between apple tv and new apple tv2?

    Airport is a router, Apple TV is a set-top box.

    http://www.apple.com/appletv/
    Original Apple TV had a hard-drive, and has been discontinued for quite some time.
    ATV2 is a streaming only device, smaller, and use less power. It is also now discontinued
    The current model, ATV 3, has a better chip allowing for 1080P playback.

  • What's the difference between Java SDK and the Enterprise Edition?

    What's the difference between Java SDK and the Enterprise Edition? Are they both free?

    both r free but they are used in diffrent applications. sdk are used for simple apps that run on your computer while j2e (enterprise edition) are ment for large distributed computer systems that include servers and such. if you don't know the diffrence you probably wont need the the j2e, only the sdk.

  • Do I need Java 8 or should i disable it? What happens if i disable it? And what is the difference between Java and Java Runtime?

    Do I need Java 8 or should I disable it? What happens if i disable it? And what is the difference between Java and Java Runtime?

    There's no difference. They're both runtime plug-ins (they run when an app calls for Java functions).
    You only need Java if you either have Java apps on your Mac that won't run without having it installed, or you use trusted web sites that require Java to function (getting fewer and far between). Otherwise, you have no need for it at all.

    The panel is the UI part of the VI. It can be divided into several panes which are simply different parts of the same panel, which can have seperate scrollbars, etc.

  • Oo diference between delpi and Java.

    I want to know what the oo differences are between java and delphi. I always thought delphi was a old not very advanced language, but I found out it supports encapsulation, inheritance, polymorfism and even interfaces.

    What OO differences are you concerned about, specifically?
    I've been away from Pascal since the '80s, so I don't know much about Delphi.
    Regardless, I would look into the following OO feature comparison (off the top of my head):
    - Multiple inheritance
    - Inner classes
    - Interfaces
    - Name Spaces
    - Type Safety
    - Garbage Collection / Memory Management
    - Reflection

  • Diferences between the java options -classpath and -Xbootclasspath

    I have created several jar files containing my own clases using the j2skd 1.4.0
    I am not understand the diferences between the following options:
    1) Copying this files into the path .../j2re1.4.0/lib/ext/
    2) Using the java option -Xbootclasspath/a
    3) Using the java option -classpath
    Options 1 and 2 works fine for using the clases on my jar files but I dont understand why the option 3 is not working.
    About my clases:
    a) All are contained on a package example cvm.util
    b) The class files that refers to this uses the directive:
    "import cmv.util;"
    c) Non of them replaces any original java class
    Any suggestions?

    The following command:
    java -cp c:\Work\java\Smartt\cvutil.jar;c:\Work\java\Smartt\stutil.jar -jar C:\work\java\smartt\STServer.jar SAPMOVS.STR PRE
    Generates:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: cvm/st/ST
    at STServer.<init>(STServer.java:66)
    at STServer.main(STServer.java:56)
    But if I replace the -cp option for -Xbootclasspath/a:
    java -Xbootclasspath/a:c:\Work\java\Smartt\cvutil.jar;c:\Work\java\Smartt\stutil.jar -jar C:\work\java\smartt\STServer.jar SAPMOVS.STR PRE
    It works fine!!
    or if I copy the two jar files into the ../lib/ext path
    Then it also works pefect!
    Thanks in advance

  • What's the diference between Mac pro and iMac?

    I am really confused with this two things.

    I'm really lost.
    Can someone exaplain what's the diference between those two?
    and do I can conect to my iMac?
    also any full explanation of what a Mac Pro is would be really helpful.

    Most of the time working with heavy 3D and Videos.
    I wanted to buy other 4GB Ram, and a Quadro 4000 (but its for Mac pro).
    My idea was (or still is) to buy a Mac Pro and expand my iMac capacity (processors, Ram, etc, but no one has answered me if i can do that), or else I was thinking if I can buy the Mac Pro and transfer my iMac stuff to it, then use the iMac monitor as a display of the Mac pro just while the iMac sells and then just buy a monitor (but again, no one has answered me if I can do that too)
    Please solve my questions

  • What are differences between Java and C#

    What are differences between Java and C#?
    I was looking at C# and it looks very similar to java, does anyone have any input on what the primary differences are?

    C# has ventricles, being a more modern, hip,and
    stylin language.Yeah, but it can't use them properly unless youbolt
    on an after-market turbo charger and paint some
    go-faster stripes.
    Java doesn't need ventricles, as the language is
    built as a bifurcative scrobbidibbit from theground
    up.
    And here I thought you were smart.The ventricles add power on the backswing and keep
    down the humpty-B count, and those stripes don't
    really do much except to impress the PHBs. A
    ventricle here and there wouldn't do Java anyharm.
    Oh, I see.
    I didn't realize you were concerned with humpty-B. So
    I suppose you put 17 firewalls in front of your VM's
    Jeffries tubes too huh? And measure productivity in
    fleems per wonkle?
    That may have worked back when you carved FORTRAN on
    stone tablets, and then went to look for a nice young
    lady to club and take home. But modern software
    development techniques demand a focus on the
    regressive thromboid paradigm, and ventricles only
    get in the way when you're trying to calibrate that
    against the latest fractal suppository data.At least I have actual experience in carving FORTRAN on stone tablets, so I know what I'm talking about. (The clubbing was the other way around but that's neither here nor there.) As for your regressive thromboid paradigm, regressive is exactly what it is. Progressive paradigms, whether thromboid or rhomboid, require ventriculation to achieve their maximum potential.
    And I suppose if you're still using those Jeffries tubes in your VM, it's not surprising that it's humptied to the max. Try installing Apache Fallopian if you really want to dehumptify it, or Apache Eustachian for 64-bit VMs.

  • Diferences between Business Delegate and Session Facade

    Hi, I've been programming with java for a long time now, but recently decided to formally studing the J2EE patterns. By now I have the intuition of many of them but in paper looks a little confusing. Let me ask you what is a clear diference between Business Delegate and Session Facade.
    For me, exposing interfaces, hiding implementations and masking the complex interactions in the back are common factors in these patterns, could you please help me to identify diferences?

    There are more subtle differences, but the basic gyst is that the Business Delegate is used on the client/presentation tier. The Session Facade is used on the server/service tier. The Business Delegate typically performs a lookup of the SessionFacade which in turn fronts a service method (EJB or otherwise). The Business Delegate pattern is typically associated with J2EE remoting and its shortcomings.

  • Compatibility between Java crypto and open ssl

    Hello
    I have some question about compatibility between java crypto and openssl library.
    This is my case:
    1.I created DESede key and stored it to file:
    SecretKey key = KeyGenerator.getInstance("TripleDES").generateKey();
    File f = new File("c:\\key.dat");
    DataOutputStream dos =new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(f));
    dos.write(key.getEncoded());
    dos3.close();2.I encrypt some file "c:\\normal.dat" through:
    ecipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key2);
      byte[] enc = ecipher.doFinal(normalData);
      File f2 = new File("c:\\enc.dat");
      DataOutputStream dos =new DataOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(f2));
      dos.write(enc);
      dos.close();

    You have carefully left out some critical java code, namely the Cipher.getInstance() method. You'll notice in the documentation for this method that there 3 components to the "transform" argument of this method, the algorithm, the mode, and the padding. All of these must match exactly with the what openssl is using. Furthermore, if you are using one of the modes which require an IV, like CBC mode, then this must match exactly too. If you don't explicitly specify some of these parameters, you might get default values supplied. It is up to you to find out what these are.
