What do I buy to make my PowerMac wireless?

I have a PowerMac G5 Tower that I would like to make wireless, but unsure on what to buy. I tried the Airport Express, and went back and forth with Apple Support, but we couldn't get it to work. I don't know what year my computer is, as it was purchased from a friend. I can tell you its running Mac OSX version 10.5.6, its a dual 2.5ghz PowerPC G5, and has 4.5gbs DDR SDRAM

Look in System Profiler to see what the model identifier is (it'll be something like PowerMac7,3). Since you say that it has DDR SDRAM and not DDR2 SDRAM, it sounds like you would have the June 2004 model. While you're in System Profiler, click on the Airport Card section - it should say that there's no hardware found.
If you indeed have the June 2004 model, then you simply need to acquire Apple's Airport Extreme card (and antenna if you don't already have it). The card can be obtained <a href-"http://www.mac-pro.com/Apple-AirPort-Extreme-Card?sc=2&category=409>here and the antenna is here.
Only the Late 2005 G5s used the Airport/Bluetooth combo card that was only a BTO option.
As you've discovered, the Airport Express won't do anything to make your G5 wireless capable. Your G5 has to connect to the Airport Express, but it needs to have the wireless hardware to do so.

    what do i need to make my emac wifi capable seeing i cant buy an adapter seeing they come with a cd to download

    Another option, if your eMac has USB 2.0 is a USB plug in WiFi adapter.
    This will have software that's needed for this device to be recognized and work, also.
    It maybe software on CD or a download from a website.
    Do a search for USB WiFi adapters Mac OS X.
    On another note:
    Can't believe we still can't edit posts on iOS mobile devices, like the iPad.
    It's a pain to have to go back to my Mac if I make a major editing issue.
    I wish they would fix this issue, already.

  • HT2494 what connector to buy to transfer audio and video from macbook to tv?

    what connector to buy to transfer audio and video from macbook to tv? I read that if I buy the normal mini display port to hdmi converter that the audio will not transmit through my tv. I there a certain thing I need to buy to make this happen? I have a Macbook 13 inch Early 2008.

    You can sync photos and videos to your iPad via your computer's iTunes.
    To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
    If the videos are films that you want to go into the Videos app then you first need to add them to your computer's iTunes library via File > Add To Library, and you can then use the Films/Movies tab to select and sync them
    Syncing media : iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod
    What format are the videos in that you want to download, and have you got an app on your iPad that supports that format ?

    You shall most likely buy a new phone since updating a hacked or jailbroken phone to the current version of iOS often ends up permanently bricking the phone.

    I recently bought a new phone and I want to sell my old one (an iPhone 4).  I activated my new phone and erased all the data on my old phone so there is no personal information on it.  Do I need to do anything else to make sure the buyer can activate this phone right when they buy it?

  • Video tapes to Movie.. What program to buy.??

    Hey All,
    I'm new to this so bear with me. I have lot's of video of My daughter that i want to make into a video for Christmas gift for mum etc.etc. What it the best application to buy to make this a reality and where is the best place to learn how to make it all happen..
    I'm naive at this thing but pretty good in all other Mac areas.. just need a bit of a nudge in the right direction..
    Cheers

    What format is the video you have? If it's VHS you can convert it to digital with many DV camcorders. Use the proper cables and connect them together. If you are lucky the DV camcorder will "pass through" the signal and convert it to digital. If it does not pass through, you can record to the DV camcorder, then capture/import it to your Mac. If your video is DV to start with, ignore the preceeding and go to the next paragraph.
    You already have iMovie and can us that to import your DV video and edit to your hearts content. You might also want to look at iDVD's "One Step Movie" if all you want to do is copy the video to DVD without any editing. You also already have iDVD.

  • Looking to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB, what should I buy?

    This is the laptop I recently purchased to keel me over while I build a desktop over the next few months, my last laptop's Hardrive and Graphics Card burned out. Looking to upgrade the RAM from the measly 4 GB to 8 GB but I am unsure of what I should buy or if I can even upgrade the RAM at all. I've done some research through the HP guide to Upgrading Memory but it is very general. Much appreciation for any help.

  • What program was used to make this video?  Is it After Effects?

    I thought that this clip was funny: http://www.clipaday.com/videos/mccain-drums.
    I want to make something similar for my brother, but I have no idea which program was used to make this.
    I have the full Adobe CS3 Suite on my computer, including After Effects. I use Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator regularly for my job.
    I want to try to monkey around with the video software at an amateur level. But before I buy any tutorials, I need to know what program to buy the tutorial for!!
    Thanks for any responses.

    While the clip may not necessarily have been done in AE, you can achieve
    these results. Careful masking along with good keyframing of the
    movement properties will do it. There are other ways, but while this
    might not be the fastest, would be the simplest and would provide a good
    learning experience for someone starting out.

  • What do i buy to hook up my ibook....

    what do i buy to hook up my ibook g4 into my tv using the A/V plug??
    do i hook up the --(Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter) to my ibook then hook up the --(Apple AV Cable for iBook) to the adapter??....
    thanks for the help...

    You need to use the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A to get a video signal.
    Then you just need a male-to-male video patch cable to connect the adapter to your TV.

  • HELP! I need some help from true Mac fans! What should I buy???

    So, I'm moving to Japan, which has a couple of implications (other than the fact that my wife's parents and my parents are looking for any legal recourse to stop us from taking their only grandchild out of the country). More importantly however, I have had to sell my B&O TV and music system (different signals from the UK where we now live). I also decided to sell our stereo (or rather my wife decided it was too bulky so as long as it was not in the living room or bedroom I could keep it...). Finally, I need a new laptop for personal use. I have some friends that are absolute mac fans, who have convinced me to go over to the other side (i.e. yours).
    The opportunity I now have is to create a complete system as I need a laptop, something to play my music, a TV, etc. Given I am starting from a clean sheet I was hoping somebody out there could help me 'design' a complete set-up. My wife and I are keen photographers (both photography and video), we like listening to music, and watching movies (we definitely need a region-free DVD player), so what should we buy?
    Any input would be hugely appreciated.

    OSX also supports IME right out of the box.
    日本語 ー わかりません
    It sets up pretty well, too; I like it more than Mircrosoft's implementation (language bar).
    Only thing to keep in mind is where you buy the MacBook; if you get it in Japan you'll get a Japanese keyboard, which displays most of the kana alongside the keys. You also get the conversion and switch keys on the keyboard itself, which is great.
    The MacBook Power Unit is multi-voltage, so no matter where you pick it up the worst you need is a plug adapter; although getting one from apple would be best. Just don't think you need to buy a new power unit, only the plug and cable.

    You need a newer 2011 or later iMac to use Airplay.
    Sorry.
    For older Mac, look at an app called AirParrot

    I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
    The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
    The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
    Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

    I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?

    The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
    I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.
    I hope that makes sense.

    I have created a form in DW 5.0 using spry text fields. I am wondering what I did wrong to make the form fields show text?
    Thank you.

    Thanks again. There's one other thing I wanted to achieve here. I need the date format to be displayed like "dd/mm/yyyy" and not like it's doing by default at the moment (i.e. mm/dd/yyyy)
    I don't have any knowledge of jQuery but had a go anyway at trying to fix this using this link http://api.jqueryui.com/datepicker/ as aid to try adjust my code. Obviously I couldn't get it to work so far...  So I'm looking for a little bit of help from anyone who knows a bit of jQuery.
    Here's the original default code (just the stuff that goes in the 'head' of the page):
    <script>
      $(function() {
          $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker();
    </script>
    And here's what I tried adding to make it work:
    <script>
      $(function() {
          $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker();
          $.datepicker.formatDate( "dd/mm/yyyy" );
    </script>
    Obviously I tried other combinations including .parseDate instead of .formatDate etc etc none of which worked.
    I'm wondering whether the extra code should perhaps go inside where the XXs are - $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker(XX)
    Anyway, if somebody could help me out that would be great. Cheers!
