What do I do at this point?
Have Lion ready to install, but this is as far as I can get - bought and downloaded app, open installer and then can never choose my hard drive to load it on to, becuase screen says that drive is used for Time Machine backups.
Have tried to verify disk and to find a hidden file marked "Backups.backupdb" to throw away so computer doesn't think that internal hard drive is my Time Machine backup, but having no luck.
Any thoughts on how to finally load Lion would be so apprecieated. So confuse why this is seeming to be so tough.
Thank you.
That's for the link, but a couple of questions:
When I do a search for "Backups.backupdb", I don't find anything, so can't move to trash.
Also, is this saying that I am just loosing some backups that I have externally anyway, or am I erasing my whole hard drive and then reloading everything from the external drive?
Thanks for any pointers.

Like the topic - "Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?"
I installed this OS, and it looks nice, but it's terrible to use. I randomly have the volume controls get disabled, and sometimes the volume menu in the system tray does nothing when adjusted which I've never seen in an OS before. The trash won't empty. When I try to drag and drop newer files over existing ones, nothing happens. The old ones just stay there. I have to delete the old ones and then move the new ones. And when I go into the protected files to manage audio plugins (I make music), the first thing I hit are error codes galore, and password prompts that either don't popup when they should, or don't execute the command after I provide my password.
What can I do now that I installed the flames of **** onto my computer?Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -

I installed Firefox 5.0. I went to create a user name and password and in following the video tutorial, I do not have the option. The only thing I get is "restore, move, size, minimize, maximize and close". I downloaded the program 2x.
Go to the Tools menu > Options. Select the Sync tab in the options. Then use the setup Firefox sync button to create the account. From that point forward it should be the same steps as the video.

MacBook Pro 15" making me wait while circle spins. Went to Apple Store, diagnosed a bad HD and replaced (HD is 65% full). Spinning icon is less frequent but still a problem - what now?
more than likely it is your video card. If it is ATI 2600XT, tell it bye-bye. The card is barely used at all in TDM or Safe Boot Mode. The 2600 and Lion and the issues with that card, even if it seems okay, is not.
Depending on Windows OS as to how it mounts and sees your Lion HFSX (there is a nice HFSX driver from Paragon, and an NTFS driver for Lion too)
480GB SSD is overkill for any system unless you are pushing CS6 2-3GB images and then for scratch. All you need for a boot drive is about 100GB.
If you have an SSD now, then 1) you need to do a full image backup and restore (regularly as maintenance), and 2) TRIM Enabler
Save Lion and you can always do a clean Lion install w/o going back to SL - but you might want to keep SL (dual boot) and handy if you run into anything you still need that required PowerPC/Rosetta
FBDIMM RAM dies, Amazon has $32 kits of 4GB. And having all 8 DIMM slots filled improves things. If you need or want to and feel 16GB isn't overkill.
SSD and issues are always possible. you should not just go along. not without a clone image. And you should have another drive w/ TRIM Enabler so that you can do a repair and "trim" what is needed.
Clone a system with CCC regularly. Bootable. And can also be used by Setup Assistant.
Install Lion over a heavily used SL system and there are likely remnants of old things that get in the way and left in there and not removed. -

My Ipod touch is frozen. The screen shows only USB cable with arrow point to the word Itunes. What is the problem? This is the second touch I have had that has this same problem. HELP!
This time try restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod instead of from backup. You may have some corruption that is causing the problem and it may now be in the backup. If the problem persists after restoring to factory defaults/new iPod. then you likely have a hardware problem and ana ppointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I HATE my new MACBOOK PRO, it will not let me open any PDF files and I downloaded the ADOBE READER three freaking times and it keeps saying that all the files are corrupt or damaged. I would rather have my 2008 Dell at this point. what is wrong with this thing
Perhaps the PDF files are corrupted.
Hit the command key and spacebar, a blue Spotlight in the upper right hand corner appears, now type Preview and press return on the Preview program.
Now you can try opening the PDF's from the file menu and see what's going on.
If they are corrupted, perhaps they are trojans from your Windows PC or gotten from a bad location online.
Download the free ClamXav and run a scan on the possibly infected folder. -
Installing the update to InDesign CC 2014 it only gets to where it says "Finishing," hung up at this point for a week or more. What now? In the CC Activity Stream it is not listed as a program I have updated, so I am sure it did not finish. If it is stable as is I do not have to upgrade at this point -- just started an important project and stability is my biggest concern. But I do want to know how to complete installing this upgrade.
Thanks,

So, we're the "stupid ios users" yet you are the one posting a link to something that simply says what we all said here?
"Starting May 1, new apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built for iOS devices with Retina display and iPhone apps must also support the 4-inch display on iPhone 5. Learn about preparing your apps by reviewing the iOS"
What part of that statement in your link do you not get? App developers will or will not make those changes, not Apple. It is entirely possible some apps will never get updated for retina, as their developers will drop those products and move on to new ones. Yes, Apple may set certain minimum standards and requirements for inclusion of anyone's app in their storefront (as I already said), but it is entirely up to the developers to actually implement those changes. Complaining on an Apple forum that a particular developer chose not to is pointless and a waste of everyone's time. -
firefox 4 takes a long time to startup at this point i am thinking about going back to internet explorer as my default browser. what is going on??
Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Plugins and disable "'''My Web Search'''". This is adware which runs in the background and spends its time trawling the web searching for ads to feed you.
Also, something shows in your system details with the number '''2,5,3,1 '''. Can you tell me what that is please? It's located in the same Plugins menu.
Similarly, I see three versions of Veetle. Disable the older ones if you don't need them.
On the security side, your Flash player is out of date and exposes your system to exploits. See: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-12.html (Update link near the foot of the page).
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit. -

I downloaded the new IOS 6 on my IPhone 3Gs as it prompted me to do so. so that took 45 mins then told me to connect to Itunes in which i did, then it took 39 mins for itunes to "restore" my phone and after the 39 mins it told me Apple unable to restore IPhone and shut me out. Next a screen popped up on my computer screen and said that i could report the problem to Apple if i wanted to. But at this point my phone is completly locked out. So all i get from my phone right now is the Apple on the screen and the download bar under it and or a block screen if i unplug it and the battery dies. which when i did the upgrade my phone was just off a fresh charge! i need help like ASAP i leave out of town on thursday it is monday and i need a phone with GPS and that can make calls! i am pregnate and have a 2 year old i am traving with and we have no house phone so my phone is very important! THANKS!
No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

Several attempts to upgrade to iTunes 11 have failed. After an upgrade to 11 the error message reads: "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly." At this point--after the upgrade to iTunes 11--my PC running Windows XP loses audio playback for all functions--in iTunes, in the browser and the volume icon disappears from the System Tray. Only by removing iTunes 11, and then using System Restore to turn back the OS settings can I return the PC to normal functioning.
I did that. I reinstalled iTunes 10.5. Everything seemed fine, but when I try to plug in and copy a CD to my iPhone 4S an error message reads roughly: 'iPhone 4S requires iTunes 10.5 or higher to work.'
What might be the problem with my audio configuration?
Why doesn't my iPhone 4S work with iTunes 10.5? It used to work with iTunes 10.5.
Please advise.

What do you think of this then?
I can tell you everyone I have discussed it with thinks it is the wrong way round, that BT should compensate my friend for the damage they have caused. I do know that Wessex Autism and other agencies will be getting involved and while it is currently at a debt collectors stage, it seems pretty clear that a court would adjudicate against BT given all the circumstances and therefore it seems pointless because BT are never ever going to receive any payment.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin...
I understand in December he received a telephone call from BT about saving money on phone and broadband? He has Sky and never wanted to change his set-up but was persuaded by persistance and only agreed to try it to get the person off the phone. At this point comes the crucial part as he is autistic and registered disabled, something that BT seem to think is either funny, irrelevant or both apart from their total inability to admit the catalogue of errors that led to him being without phone or internet and having to contact BT at his own expense by a mobile phone.
In short, the equipment arrived a day late, the connectors would not fit into his landline phone so he was never able to use that, strange then that BT say services had been used.He did not bother connecting the router because he thought the internet came through the phone. He cancelled everything right away and worse still, he was told when he did contact BT that they were not doing wifi in his area meaning he would no longer be able to use the web say on a laptop wirelessly? If he had been told that in the first place then he would never have agreed to anything. And his autism means that he would have had absolutely no chance of understanding or knowing about contracts, verbal or otherwise.
He has not signed a bank order or any contract. Even worse, BT refused to clear the line and he had to wait for Sky to put in a brand new line, thus leaving a vulnerable person without essential communication.
See, BT have never produced any bills by way of letter or email, they cannot substantiate charging anything in fact and as I said, I make no threats here, just to say that what BT have done is not far short of criminal and I personally will ensure that the proper media are given all these facts and that BT will face substantial bad publicity if they do not close this matter, notwithstanding the fact that a personal claim for damages against BT is quite probable, the Ombudsman is currently considering the matter.
In a nutshell, if you bought something from a shop you would have the right to send it back at no cost. And if someone wrote to you demanding £500 with no evidence of anything, would you pay it? Come on BT, do the decent thing or are you to continue to try bullying the disadvantaged? Thanks for responding in the forum, actually you might tell I am pretty indignant about all of this and before I can give you some basics about what happened I can tell you everyone I have discussed it with thinks it is the wrong way round, that BT should compensate my friend for the damage they have caused.
