What do I do first!?

Hi there
Been using InDesign as a graphic designer for quite sometime now and have recently been asked to look into InCopy for the company I work for. I have downloaded the trial and am now testing sharing on a server. I have a totally newbie question as no matter how many tutorials I read and how many PDFs I download from Adobe, it all seems full of so much jargon, I'm not sure what I need to do first:
I want to have a complete InDesign document available for an InCopy user to edit. Do I first need to "export all graphics and stories" OR "add all stories to assignment"? Do I need to do both things in order for the InCopy user to be able to see all layout views? Because when I have done just the "export all graphics and stories", when I open it in InCopy it says not all layout views are available.
Phew! Any help much appreciated, I'm sure it's all very simple...

The first thing you should do is get some training. The InCopy workflow is wonderful and can save a boatload of time but if you don't have the proper knowledge the whole thing could easily blow up in your face.
There's no substitute for having a real live human help you but if that's not in the budget, I would strongly suggest watching Anne-Marie's fabulous videos on Lynda.com. This link will get you a free one week trial: http://bit.ly/fcGpiI
Attempting to answer your question...if the InDesign and InCopy user both have access to the server you can simply export all stories to InCopy and the InCopy user would open the InDesign file to begin work on it.

About to back up iTunes to XHD. Have old version 10.6.3.  Have been afraid to update with 40GB of music. Been digitizing vinyl.  In this version, playlists export as m3u, which needs to be converted to MP3-Song by song??? Goal is to also be able to burn MP3 to flash drive and to XHD as usable data.
Help?? What do I do first?  Could export as m3u-then figure it out later? Or will this data be unreadable junk in a new version of iTunes?
Does new version 11.whatever., have a provision to make all into MP3? Obviously past applecare contract.
Been looking at forums-not clear what to do.
Is there a simple way to convert/export m3u as MP3 in the newest version of iTunes?  Am I asking the right questions???

• To differentiate in the user-exits what transaction has executed first

Hi,
I have a problem,
For transactions Iw32 y iw34 EXIT_SAPLCOIH_006 user-exit  are called up  when a maintenance order is updated
from any of two transactions.
I want to differentiate in the user-exits what transaction has executed first (origin) because sy-tcode in both cases contains  iw32 ' because IW38 transaction calls UP always to the transaction iw32 for update of a maintenance order.
thank´s
Regards.

If that is the case, and the IW32 is begin called from IW38 via some batch input mechanism, then maybe this code will work.  You can wrap your code in this IF statement.  Here we are saying that we only want to do this when the tcode is IW32 and it is not being called in batch input(call transaction) or called by another program.
if sy-tcode = 'IW32'
      and sy-binpt = space
      and sy-calld = space.
endif.

I have an earlier model imac, the 2006 24inch and im running mac os x 10.5.8, i want to update my system to the newest mountain lion, what should i do first?

To clarify;
Snow Leopard 10.6;
Lion 10.7:
Snow Leopard DVD:
You can get it only by phone now from Apple.
In the US, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a sales assistant. Last quoted price was $19.99 for the single-user and $29.99 for the family licence.
For other countries, check here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Don't forget to ask for Sales; the tech support guys can't help.
When you've installed SL it will be 10.6.3. You need to update that to 10.6.8 with the combo installer from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Lion is only available by phone also - same number and they'll give you a download code to use in the Mac App Store.

What version of LabVIEW first included Bundle by Name and Unbundle by Name?
Allen Weekley

I am auditing software that was originally written a long time ago by someone who is long gone from the company. In a discussion of this, someone offered the theory that Unbundle by Name did not exist in LabVIEW 4.0 as an excuse for one aspect of the poor programming style. I couldn't remember for sure if LabVIEW 3.0 had Unbundle by Name. The question was merely academic.
There was at one time a chart comparing features of different LabVIEW versions somewhere on the NI web site. Anyone know where it is located, if it is still there?

• What happened to my first episode on itunes?

Uploaded my fourth episode last night and it's right on itunes where it should be. But the first one has disappeared and it's saying there's a total of 3 episodes. any idea why this could be? and how I can fix it?

The feed you've found is exactly what you want. The problem is getting iTunes to use that feed rather then the one it has now.
You have four options, though I'm afraid all are a bit dubious:
1. You can change Feedburner to use this podcast feed: you will have to look into their Help to see how to do this, but AFAIK it is possible. This will result in the podcast-only feed being used by iTunes: but anyone who is using the Feedburner feed for the actual Weblog will of course lose all the other entries/.
2. You can try to change iTunes to the new feed. In order to do this you need to at a tag to the top section of the existing Feedburner feed, which would read
<itunes:new-feed-url>http://newyorkirisharts.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default/-/Podcast</itunes:new-feed-url>
This would redirect iTunes to that feed but would have no effect on any other method of reading it. However I rather doubt you will be able to get at the feed to do this, and I don't know whether Feedburner will help - they may have no enthusiasm for allowing you to move away from them. You could of course submit the podcast-only feed to Feedburner to 'burn' as they put it to a new Feedburner feed, and ask them if they will put the redirection tag into the old feed pointing to their new feed. I have no idea whether they will co-operate.
3. You could abandon the existing iTunes old podcast altogether. You should get it removed from the Store - instructions here - and submit your new feed as an entirely new podcast. You will probably need to make a small change in the title, as a bug in the Store software may tell you that the podcast has already been submitted: and of course you will lose any subscribers or comments.
4. The remaining option is somewhat uncertain. iTunes Support is notoriously unhelpful, often sending back form answers which often don't deal with the actual problem, or referring the questioner to the Discussions Forum (which may have sent the questioner there in the first place): however it has been known for someone to persuade Support to shift their podcast to a new URL, so it's worth trying. It's probably just a matter of luck who you get. To contact iTunes Support, go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'.

• What Is The VERY FIRST Hard Drive MP3 Play

I've heard several rumors as to who made the first one, some say its iPod, someone else says Creative, another said Rio, so who had the first?
and what's the name of that particular model?

I have to agree with jakeames. The PJB00 from Hango which licensed it from Compaq was the first hard dri've based MP3 player on the market. But a few months later IBM released the first Microdri've which had capacities from something like 300MB upto GB. A company named i2Go was the first company to purchase the dri'ves from IBM and has its eGo players with them. Read more <a href='http://www.mp3newswire.net/stories/2000/ego.html' target=_blank>here and <a href='http://www.antiqueradio.com/Apr05_Menta_mp3.html' target=_blank>here. The price was a bit expensi've, at the cost of $000 for a GB Microdri've the eGo had the ability to have 2 dri'ves inside, yes 2 dri'ves. So the player itself was well over $2000. In the 2000 Academy Awards, nominees were given a 2GB eGo in thier gift bag, but this company eventually folded due to its high price.
Read more on the PJB00 here: <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_Jukebox' target=_blank>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_Jukebox
But a year or so later Rio and Creative came out with their first hard dri've players, and eventually survi'ved. But many years later Creative is still standing strong with their MP3 player business while many others have failed. Good job Message Edited by DM on 09-07-2005 2:9 PM

• Over heating, Hard drive capacity drop, what to deal with first?

Ive got the 2007 alu macbook pro, 160gb HD running leopard. I use it for adobe design products, abelton, and net mostly. I re-formatted the HD only about 6 months ago when i moved to leopard and did a clean install of my software.
Recently i have noticed the fans jump up in use so i got a fan monitor program which shows that my laptop is hitting 75deg no matter how heavy (or light) i am using it. Fans are crunning at 6000rpm apart 2 or so minutes after power up and stay that way. My left fan sounds like it is starting to die, lots of noise and almost chokes every now and then like it is jammed.
I tried to use the laptop pretty light and havent really done anythign but surf the net recently but the other day i got a message stating i was out of HD space. I had 30GB free on my HD, i like to ensure i have at least 20GB free always to make sure i dont push it too hard, but when i looked in finder it said i had 120mb free. I then sat there watching my finder window and the capacity fluctuated before my eyes from about 700 to 100mb with no applications open or background processing under my control launched. I went and deleted some stuff to try get it back about 2GB but this didnt do anything, in a few minutes i was back down to 150mb.
I searched the net trying to work out what would cause this, some people have similar problems found stray log files using programs. I downloaded the directoryX program (Excuse me if that name is wrong but it is somethign like that) and the program told me where all the large files were located, but it said that my HD capacity was 119GB!! and it could not find where the 30gb had gone to.
I tried to degrag using Idegrag but the program could not work out my HD and said i had some tree problem.
Should i buy a new HD, or is the high temperature and fan issues going to ruin my new HD too?
ive searched high and low on the internet for a sollution to this problem but it seems somewhat unique so if anyone can hit me with some ideas i would be very appretiative. Im ready to drop cash on some new ram and HD but want to know if this is just going to be pointless as they will becomem corrupt too

Your not having had to replace HDDs seems to indicate that the drives are not used much. Modern HDDs are built for speed and efficiency, but are not built to last. The lubricant on the platters thicken and become gummy, spin out to the edges and the head sticks and the process of reading and writing slows way down. This happens in the normal course of using the drive. Despite the best maintenance routines performance will degrade, with regular use, over time...

Well, their usage patterns vary a fair amount of course, cornelius. The boot drives in my computers usually cop a fair old caning for the first three or four years (until I get a new computer!) , running perhaps 12 hours a day much of the time. During this period they have to cope with a fair amount of mapping work, together with a dose of video and audio usage (digitising audio and video of field rips etc) Sometimes they get shifted to external cases if I get a bigger one. After that the relevant computer often gets passed on to someone else in the family , or to friends, or I continue to use it for specific purposes only. The useage may not be quite so intense in such situations , but it usually continues for quite a few more years.
The original drives in my G3 iMac, a PPC 5400, an LC575, an LC520 and even the one in an external enclosure attached to my original MacPlus are all still working fine! (I start the old ones up every month or so for primarily nostalgic reasons and the iMac G3 is still someones "everyday" computer!) On the notebook front the same goes for a PB12, a PB1400, a PB5300 and a PB190.
The drive in an iMac G5 (which I still regularly use) got swapped for a larger one after the first two years (I was always worried about this drive because of the high temps that iMac G5 drives tend to run at) , but it still runs fine in an external enclosure used for backup daily of one of the MBPs
I don't use any of them to the level of a full time server, of course, but they certainly don't usually live an idle life. Like I said, I've been lucky with drives, but I reckon the maintenance schedule has helped a bit, too!
Cheers

• What do I need first?

I pre-ordered a copy of The Sims 3, which arrived today. I quickly found that I need 10.5.7 (Leopard to run the game.
My machine:
iMac
Mac OS X Version 10.4.11
2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 Gb 667 MHz DDR2 RAM
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X2600.
As far as I'm aware, I meet all requirements except for the fact that I need 10.5.7 (Leopard).
If this is the case, could someone tell me exactly where I need to go and if there's more than one update, then what sequence I need to install them in? I'm aware I can't just jump in and install 10.5.7 - I have to get the updates leading up to it first right?
Any help is appreciated.
(Apologies if this isn't the correct board to have posted this topic, though technically it is related to Leopard installtion)

Hi Centauri;
No. There are no update available that will get you from 10.4.11 to 10.5.anything. You must buy a Leopard DVD which is what is needed to get you system over the Leopard.
Before you do that I would suggest that you clone your system disk and test the clone to be sure it is possible to boot from it. This is a precaution just in case something goes awry during the Upgrade.

• How can I put data to cell according to what data you entered first?

I'm using DDE to simulate vi to excel, it display the data to excel correctly, according to what data i entered, but i already assign specific cell to a specific data. i want that for example, the data that has been read is SOG row 1 column 3. and FOG row 2 column 3. how can i distinguished what data read first? bec. if you first entered data FOG it will entered in row 2 and if you entered SOG it will appeared in row 1, if you have a lot of entered data you will not distinguished what data enetered first.
can you please give me an idea how can i solve this?
Thank You

I'm not totally sure if I understand your question, but it seems to me that you have two pieces of data - SOG and FOG. This data will be written to your Excel file in the same location each time. Are you writing FOG and SOG from the same VI? If so, why not use a shift register to keep order? Another option is to insert a time stamp next to the SOG or FOG data and then view the time stamp to know the order. Or, you could write the data to a simple text file. Keep appending the data. When you want to know the order, just open the text file and you will have the insertion sequence there. Good luck.

• What should I upgrade first?

I'm thinking of upgrading something to improve my after effects rendering and realtime view-ability.  What would you suggest I upgrade first? my raid?  Get an arecca?  Or cpu?  Or something else?
specs:
gtx480
24gb ram
960 overclocked to 4.0
os drive - ssd
Raid 0 internal (4 drives) media drive
Raid 0 internal (2 drives) output drive
I'm also maxed out as far as space to store drives inside my case.  Any suggestions?  Where do you put all of your drives?
Thanks!
Adam

Never heard of a gtx480. Buy a new computer.
But even that won't make After Effects tangibly better unless your current mashine is more than four or five years old. After Effects is all about math, Teraflops may get the equations processed faster but the images still have to be recalled from drives, moved around, written out to various locations and then displayed. The physical movement of data is pretty much going at the speed of light now.
