What do I do if an iPod shuts down after going into sleep mode

My friends iPod keeps shutting down after it goes into sleep mode. I just fixed it up (restored it, had to dry it out after it fell into water) and now it does that. Everything else works fine but if I put it in sleep mode or put it into sleep mode it shuts down. How do I fix this because I've never seen this happen before.

Hey Tecmo_SB_Guy,
I would suggest you take a look at advanced power settings. It can seem like the notebook is turning off when it is actually just hibernating. You can set it to not hibernate.
1. Windows key + Q to open the Search Bar
2. Type "power"
3. Click Settings under the Search Bar
4. Select Power Options from the results on the left.
5. In Power Options, Click Change when the computer sleeps, on the left.
6. Set the Put the computer to sleep setting so that it fits your usage best.
7. Click Change advanced power settings, at the bottom.
8. Expand Sleep and expand Hibernate after. If you want you can change the hibernation setting to Never by typing "Never" into the minutes field. See attached picture. You can do this for battery and/or plugged in.
9. Click Apply to save changes.
If you don't already shut it down periodically, I would suggest shutting it down at least 2-3 times a week if you use it daily. Leaving the computer running continuously can shorten its lifespan. Hard drive failures and motherboard issues are seen much more often on machines that are left running constantly. Computers get bogged down and run slowly when the memory is full. Memory only clears out and resets itself when the computer is shut down. Here is a link explaining more about memory accumulation and hardware aging.
I hope these suggestions help! Please let me know if you have any questions

  • HP Envy shutting down after going into sleep mode

Hi.  I'm not sure where to post this so I'll try it here.
My laptop shut downs automatically when it goes into sleep mode.  Not right away when going into sleep mode.  Maybe like an hour later after going into sleep mode.
I'm not sure it's overheating because it never shuts down while I'm actually using the laptop.
Do you guy have any idea how to fix this?

  • Shuts down when put into sleep mode

Any idea why this is happening?
When my ipod touch locks itself or if I put it into sleep mode, it will not wake itself up with the press of a button - instead, it restarts (black screen with apple logo in centre).
It is only 12 hours old and was perfectly fine when running on the factory 1.xx software, it has only started happening since the 2.1 software was installed.
Since, I have Restored it through iTunes which performs another clean install of 2.1 and it is the same still
Weirdly, while it is connected to my PC through the USB cable, it behaves perfectly (waking up from sleep instantly with the press of the home button), but as soon as I disconnect it from the PC, it starts playing up again.
If I set the settings to never lock, it performs brilliantly which is annoying as I now have a taste of what this device can do, but I just cant put it into sleep mode.
Any ideas on what I need to do? Or is it a case of returning it to Apple?
    Thanks for any response

Is the battery FULLY charged? If not, charge it and then see how it reacts...make sure Wi-Fi is off while you do this--I've noticed weird things when it's docked and plugged into my TV (with the new dock) and wi-fi is on--I get battery messages randomly and it eventually shuts down (even though it's plugged into a dock with power, that came from Apple and is the "latest and greatest"...)

  • MacBook Pro shuts down when put into sleep mode

Every time I put my Mac into sleep mode (plugged in or not, charged or not), it shuts itself down, and I have to restart it. I just got it (brand new) in August, so I know the battery shouldn't be bad.
It's been doing this for about a week... I just changed to Snow Leopard yesterday, and downloaded the software updates and everything, but it still shuts down.
Anyone know what I can do (short of sending it to Apple) to fix this?

Okay, well I already used smartsleep.
It fixed the problem I was having, but now my macbook started having the same issues again this weekend. It's happened twice tonight in the span of 3 hours.
Do I need to uninstall SmartSleep then?
And here is the report I get when the macbook reboots:

  • Dual boot computer restarts by itself shortly after it has been shut down or put into sleep mode

    Hello,
I have Toshiba Equium L40-14I (old) and dual boot Vista and Linux.
A few days ago I noticed that while in a Linux operating system and when I put it to sleep (suspend) it would do so, but then immediately come alive again. The same thing happens with the shut down option. In Windows Vista it is the same. It does shut down, but in a few seconds restarts again and shows the normal options of choosing which operating system I want to boot. The computer only stays shut if I pull the power cord (it has no functioning battery) or it I forcefully shut it by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
    So far I tried this:
    - BIOS: 1. Changed to default factory settings. 2. Disabled wake-up on LAN and disabled wake up on keyboard.
    - Device Manager, Network adapters, NIC, Properties, Power management: unticked the option that allows the adapter to wake the computer
    - Device Manager: all drivers seem to be ok
    - Virus scan: although this is probably not the issue as it happens independently of which operating system I am using. I have not installed any strange programs.
    - I started from the Safe mode and then shut down. Same thing happened: it restarted automatically after a few seconds.
    - Disabled automatic restart on system failure. It didn't help.
English is not my first language, sorry for the perhaps unclear way of describing this issue. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

You have done just about everything I can think of.  You didn't mention doing a System Restore.  If you haven't done one or even if you have, do a System Restore back to at least sometime before this started happening. If the first one doesn't work, try a different restore point and do it again. If that doesn't work, you need to consider a full HDD recovery to out-of-box condition which procedure is fully covered in your User's Guide.  I'm sorry I don't have a link for it but yours is not a U.S. machine and this site is for U.S. machines. It appears to be a U.K. model with support covered by THIS site.
BTW, I wish the native Americans who post on here did  as well as you have so you have to make no excuses for your English.

  • IPod touch 1st gen goes into recovery mode after shut down or lock

Alright, so I bought a used iPod touch 1st gen from a friend. It was working fine for a few weeks until it started shutting off and going into recovery mode when I locked or turned it off. When off, half of the times I can do a hard reatart and hold the home and hold buttonsand it will turn on. The other times it will just come up with a white screen. When I plug it into my computer, it says it has to be restored. And this is an ongoing loop that I cannot seem to fix. I looked up my serial number and it says it's out of warranty.
So my first question is, is there anyway I personally can fix this problem, or do I have to take it to Apple? My second question is, what are their policies on iPods that were bought used from someone else? And is there a way for me to get a warranty on it to get it repaired if I can't fix it myself or do I have to pay full price on replacement or repairs?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Did you let iTunes restore it? Has the problem continued? The article below discusses how to put your iPod into a recovery mode so you can fix it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
As to your warranty, you no longer have one. Apple will, for a fee, repair your iPod if it needs repairing. There are independent shops who can do it as well - just Google them.

  • Late 2012 Mac mini with OSX 10.8.2 has started shutting down instead of going into sleep mode.

Sometime in the last week or so my mac mini has started going into full shut down instead of sleep mode.
I have tried checking and unchecking energy saver boxes but haven't found anything which will get me back to where I used to be - and I haven't knowingly changed anything to make this happen.- maybe an OS update caused it?
The machine will fire up with a tablet click rather than needing the reset button to be pushed so clearly the machine is sort of halfway between sleep and full 'off'. Most frustrating as one of the key issues for me in getting this my first mac was its easy sleep and super quick fire up compared to windows.
    Any help appreciated
Oh yes  I just remembered that I did just install 2 8gb of crucial RAM (to replace the supplied 2 2gb but surely that can't have anything to do with it - can it)?

Adding to my first post I can now advise that when the mac goes into sleep mode the light on the front stays on (it does not pulse so clearly it is not really sleeping).
When i click the tablet / keyboard this is actually what triggers the mac to reboot
I have tried resetting the SMC as per the following link to no avail

    Help please!

  • Computer shuts down without going to sleep

    hello,
i've had an increasingly swollen battery with a corresponding diminished life. to a point that it barely fit, lasted ten minutes on its own and when it became depleted, the macbook pro would just shut down without a warning.
so i bought a new one and although it lasted about 2h30 on its first cycle, when it displayed the low battery warning, the computer shut down without going to sleep...
tried resetting PRAM, and SMC to no avail.
i charged it back up a bit and it shut down again.
it's on its 3rd cycle and battery health already dropped from 100% to 94%.
    anything i can do?
    thanks...

Are you sure it is shutting down and not going to sleep "permanently"? I say this because I have (and others) a somewhat similar problem but it's not shutting down, it sleeps forever:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1400708
Also, I was going to suggest maybe your battery has died out, but you said it is plugged in, so probably not your battery as the problem.

When the system goes into sleep mode it keeps making a beeping noise. The system is shut down by holding the button in
and will then boot up again without any errors.
I Have replace RAMS, Motherboard and Power Supply. I have check the Bio's  and Power setting on the unit. there is no place to cause this issue.
    Please help

    Syamak,
You didn’t specify where the beeping noise is coming from.
If it’s coming through your speakers, you could try to update your audio drivers since it’s possible they’re incorrectly sending a signal to the speakers as the audio chipset enters standby.
If the noise is coming from the motherboard, you’ll need to take a closer look at your system’s configuration or contact the manufacturer.
    I hope this helps.

  • Equium A110-276 not able to shut down or put into hibernate mode

With the ac mains adaptor connected to laptop, I am unable to shutdown or put into hibernate mode. When shutting down or going into hibernate, the computer appears to do everything correctly until the power is shut off. When power is shut down there is a two second delay after which the computer re-boots again. This problem does not occur with the ac mains adaptor removed from computer (battery only).
Problem started after my husband inadvertantly connected mains adaptor whilst computer was booting up. Have looked at BIOS settings and all ok; have looked at power settings in Control Panel and all looks ok.
    Can anyone please help???

    Hi
As far as I know the Toshiba Power saver controls the going into standby and the hibernation mode.
You should firstly remove your power saver and then after clean removing and after new rebooting you should install the version from the Toshiba driver page.
If this will not solve the problem you should try to update the BIOS. But be careful. Be sure that you use the right BIOS and the right BIOS update procedure!

  • B8000 syas its shutting down but goes into Shutdown

I have recentyl bought the above model and have used it for a week and was very pleased.
I charged it 100% before a long haul flight and did not use it however when I got home it  was dead plugged in the charger and it starts to charge all ok.
I have noticed now that when I go to shut down it seems to do so but if say after 5 hours I take it from case its warm and when it starts up power is at 50% and thats from 100% charge.
In addition once fully flat I notice when I plug in charger I get the battery charging icon but when doing this from Shut down I do not when recharging
It seems to me that when I choose shutdown its really going into sleep mode hence the battery drain
    Any help much appreciated

I think so...I've been doing some experimenting...the first time this happened, I thought that it was just a glitch in something. After I shut down the computer completely, it doesn't do it...a day or so ago, there was an update applied by firefox and it seemed that it started doing it again after that. However, this doesn't make sense to me. I shut the computer down a while ago and now it is hibernating fine again. I tried shutting it down after I logged on and it worked fine. I've opened firefox and it is still working fine. I've also opened my outlook and it doesn't appear to be causing it. I believe that something I am opening might be doing this even though the program itself is shut down, although I have no idea how unless the computer believes it is still on. The only other program I run, is MSWord and MSN messenger, which is open now and I can still hibernate. I figured that the this was a long shot but thought I would ask. So I think the answer to your question is yes, it happens even when I don't have firefox open. I've shut everything down and tried to hibernate it and it won't do it once this starts happening. I'm completely out of ideas.

  • Ipod Shuts down after song

    Hello all,
I got an iPod Nano 3d Gen for my birthday 2 months ago.
I uploaded songs on it, and a video or two.
I everything was fine untill one day the iPod had shutdown after a song.
First I thought it was just something that'd happen once, So I restarted it and selected a song.
But again, the iPod would shutdown after the song was done.
After that my iPod has not been working like it should be, always shutting down after a song was finished.
I followed the 5 steps to fix most problems (Restart, Reboot etc)
But the problem with that was that my computer did not see the iPod.
My iPod would say it was connected for about 2 seconds, and then it would shut down again.
The Computer Management window couldn't see it either.
I tried almost everything I think, and nothing worked.
    So my question is this,
Does anyone have the same problem?
Or does anyone how to fix an iPod with these problems?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • IPod shuts down after playing music for 1 minute

Whenever I try to listen to music or radio the device shuts down after exactly 1 minute. Can't find a setting to change this. I already did reset all settings, to no avail. Any help? Thanks!

Make sure the headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning no silver from the headphone's plug can still be seen.  You shoul hear a sort of clicking noise when inserted the headphones to signal that they have been fully seated.

  • MacBook shuts down after 2s of sleep

I've run out of ideas of how to fix a problem that started on the weekend.
    It's an early 2009 2GHz MacBook running 10.6.7 with 5GB of ram.
The problem is that the laptop shuts down about 2 seconds after it goes to sleep.
Initially it was also shutting down after a minute of being left idle but that behaviour has stopped since I repaired the hard disk last night. It does however now beep (even if muted) and display the shutdown dialogue box after being left idle for a couple of minutes (it continues to give a prompt beep every couple of minutes, again even if muted).
Once shut down it won't respond to the power button unless I have disconnected both the power charger and battery for a few seconds. It will then restart from either the battery or power charger.
The shut down problem is the same with or without the battery onboard. Battery count is 163 and condition is reported as "normal" in Profiler.
I've tried starting from a fresh OS X install of both 10.6 and 10.5.6 on a USB drive but it still shuts down on sleep.
I've reset SMC, repaired permissions, repaired the disc (there were some errors that were repaired) and now run out of things to try.
The system.log shows the following when it shutdowns down while sleeping:
May 30 20:50:52 loginwindow[41]: loginwindow SleepWakeCallback WILL sleep
    May 30 20:50:54 configd[14]: PMConnection mDNSResponder com.apple.powermanagement.applicationresponse.slowresponse 2047 ms
    Any ideas?

If I recall correctly, MacBooks go into a mode of sleep called Hibernate by default.  In this mode, the contents of the memory are saved to disk when the sleep starts.  You can tell if this is happening by looking at the light on the front.  If it stays fully on for 10 seconds or so then the computer is hibernating, otherwise it is just asleep.
Anyway, to stop rambling - maybe you should try toggling between normal sleep and hibernate to see if that makes any difference.  Follow the instructions on this page:

  • I don't think my computer is completely shutting down.  I think it is only going into sleep mode.  When I hit the power button, it turns off immediately instead of shutting down.

I don't think my Mac Pro is completely shutting down.  When I hit the power button, it just turns off immediately instead of going through the normal shut down procedures.  I heard that I should try resetting the SMC, which involves removing the power cord.  However, when I remove and replace the power cord, it turns on automatically, so I can't even properly reset that to see if it is the issue.  Is this probably a power supply issue?
Actually, in case this information helps... The computer went into sleep mode the other day, and would not come back.  This is a work computer that I use for our photography business, and at this point I am just trying to run it as a drive to get the photos onto our new computer, but this issue is keeping us from doing so.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Try a SMC reset.
