Ok, I just got my iPod and when I first downloaded it onto my PC it did not read my iPod ! But, now it does ! So after it could read the iPod on the computer, I started downloading songs ! Well, after it had downloaded 170 songs, it just stop downloading and all the those songs that I had put on the iPod were gone ! And, when I tried to re-import the songs, at the bottom of my screen something popped up and said that the iTunes file is Corrupted ! Is said "The file or directory/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility". What is a Checkdisk Utility ? I was downloading songs early fine, but now it does not work, what do I do ? PLEASE HELP, I have been working on it all day and still can't get it !!

you go to My Computer and right click one of your drives. Click properties and then tools and then error checking. you then restart your computer and it takes like an hour to restart casue it checks all your filess. it did nothing to help me out.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
I recommend that you also make a backup before proceeding. Just quit the installer.

Keywords are stored in the catalog. Just be sure your catalog(s) is backed up as well as all you image files before reformatting the drive.

Every time I open iPhoto (as of today) after a few seconds the coloured wheel appears and the program become unresponsive. I have tried closing my computer. I assume I have a corrupt file but at the moment I cannot access anything in the program?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I have some corrupted files on my OS9.2. hard drive that won't delete.

My computer is in three sections, the OS X is fine, but both OS9.2 drives are causing me trouble. The additonal OS9.2 drive is purely for music, but originally my audiophile card 2496 was installed on both drives. I had a problem with the sound on the small drive so I uninstalled everything and then reinstalled it all. The music records alright now, but when I close Cubasis it freezes on the small drive . When uninstalling all the music I found I couldn't delete all the audiophile card files that were on the main hard drive - they were in an invisible file marked usr (that is the spelling used) and the rest of the path was greyed out. I tried to delete them straight from Sherlock but to no avail. I am wondering now whether to reinstall the OS9.2 system on both hard drives but need to ask a few basic questions. When I do this will this fix the 'corrupted files' that are already there or will this cause more trouble. Will I lose all the work that I have already done on these files or should I make sure and do a back-up onto DVD just in case. How does one reinstall the Operating System? I have the disc but just not sure what to do as I haven't done it before. Will these corrupted files do more damage to the computer if I just leave well alone - it is a nuisance restarting the computer every time I use Cubasis but I would sooner do that than get into more of a muddle than I am in at the present.

If I deep-wipe the drive what exactly does that mean?
That means the drive is effectively stripped of all data, including the removal of the disk directories. A file (or folder) that refuses to be trashable indicates there is probably damage to the directory. DiskWarrior usually can fix that; apparently not in this case.
Once the drive has been stripped, the initialization process creates a new structure on the drive so that it is usable for data storage, including new directories.
When you say I can't deep-wipe a partition, do you mean that the whole Hard Drive OSX as well will be deep wiped, or does it mean that only the OS9 part that needs it will be wiped?
A hard drive that has been partitioned has had its disk subdivided into two or more volumes. For most things the Mac will treat each volume as if it were a separate hard drive - each volume will have its own icon on the desktop; files can be copied from one volume to another; if each has an OS, each will appear individually in Startup disk control panel and in Startup Manager; etc.
However, although the Mac treats each partition as if it were a separate drive, they aren't - they are still part of the same physical drive.
A single partiton can be erased, for example by using the Erase function in the Special menu in OS 9. Unfortunately all that an Erase does is to delete entries in the disk directory - none of the data is actually removed, including the directories themselves.
A deep-wipe of the drive is part of a broader initialization of the drive; this affects the entire drive, meaning all partitions of the drive will be wiped of all data.
Will I lose everything when I deep wipe the drive?
Everything that is on that drive, on all partitions of that particular drive, yes.
As Grant noted, the Big System Morsels error usually indicates a problem with the machine being able to read the CD properly. Often that can be fixed by cleaning the CD. A Mac's optical drive is far less tolerant of smudges (fingerprints, etc.) on a data disk (such as an install CD) than it is with such on an audio disk.

I upgraded to Mavericks. I now have a corrupt file in Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle - How can I fix this?

I Upgraded to Mavericks. I was having problems being able to run TimeMachine so nothing has been able to back-up since the upgrade. I have tried using Carbon Copy Cloner to back up the hard drive, and have been unsucsessful due to a damaged file at Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle. CCC takes days to try and find only those files it needs to back-up, so I have had to abort the back-up. I used TimeMachine before the Mavericks upgrade, but with Mavericks, it is not recognizing the old TimeMachine data and can't roll back to the previous software (Snow Leopard?).
How can I replace the corrupted files? Do I need to get a disc from Apple with the OSX software and then reload the operating system? Do I need to restore the operating system? Do I need to load Mavericks all over again and if so, how?

Thank you so much for your recommendation. In the end, I was able to restore from a version of TimeMachine that I had on my external hard drive. I first tried to restore to the earliest version of Mavericks and it had all kinds of issues with my computer being slow and unresponsive. Seeing that this was not going to get me any improvements, I did a second restore to the last version of MountainLion that preceeded the upgrade to Mavericks, and voila, my MacMini is back to its peppy operation. My computer is now restored and functional again.
I am really puzzled why the folks at the Apple Genius Bar could not suggest this. I had taken the computer and back up hard drive to them, but they told me that my problem was data related, and they don't get into data recovery or back-up issues. But that was ultimately what restored my system back to normal. I think they need to be better schooled on the problems that can be solved using TimeMachine. They had my external disk drive and should have seen that it was capable of restoring my computer and suggested that I go home to try that. But instead.

I downloaded Bitdefender ant virus software. I click on the first button "search critical location." I deleted the app but am not sure it has left. I was freeing up memory and a huge list of files started popping up. When I downloaded this program my main browser was chrome but it came directly from APP Store. I went back at it again today to see if the files were stille popping up. It's hard to notice with all the numbers. I don't want to sink into a windows base scam. BitDefender itself is not classed as malware but, like the majority of anti-virus software, you simply do not need it on a Mac.
Did you delete it before or after you installed it? If you deleted the downloaded file before installation, job done. If not post back.

What is the best way to recover a corrupted file from a failing Hard Drive?

I have a 3TB WD internal drive that is starting to fail with Bad blocks. I noticed it when I had some write errors and so got a new disc as fast as possible to get the data off before it dies completely.
However, some files are failing to be copied with the Finder. What tools are best for trying to recover these mainly video files? I have Tech Tool Pro but its utility seems aimed at finding accidently deleted files. I seem to remember a utility from way back that would repeatedly try to read a back block and re constitute the file.

Choose and use only a single background process to monitor health of a drive, they really are not safe to use multiple tools. And SoftRAID does its scan and checking in background during idle time for weak sectors - they are not really black/white but more xx tries to read/write.
as I mentioned, and you fit the profile, DW is one trick pony and can be used when you need to mount or access files to recover and backup.
Yes, DW will create a new directory. It has an advanced deep scan to scavenge for files.
Sometimes you just need to use DW's Preview to see what the drive volume 'looks like" now and what it would be after a rebuild/create directory. but sometimes you just want Data Rescue 3. both are in the $95 range.
Too often large backups, like 10 drives, are not well categorized or 'where is what."
Clone of a drive means you can restore the volume... TM to keep versions. But I don't have the 200% faith in TM sets or backup.
Sometimes a RAID6 is the ideal method for a large viideo catalogue or collection. And some people or businesses keep duplicate RAID6 sets, to mirror each other.
I liken 3TB drive sometimes as putting too many or all the eggs in one basket.
also, to keep any drive to 40% free which may sound wasteful, unless you consider the data' value.
SoftRAID 4 could be useful to zero and test the drive. Or to to 'take over' the drive even. Then to build a mirror from it. MPG recommends using it even in non-array use for some of those very reasons.
choice now going forward: clone with Superduper / CCC / recovery with DR3 / and build the directory (or not) with DW 4.x.
With externals sometimes the weak link is the case and interface or drive enclosure, plus the bridge if any (SATA native and none is my preference). And controllers, which may be needed.
Instead of having to order a drive? always have spares and extras. Always have a clone and an extra that can be used to put into service. And order more.

I am working a on a project.
All footage is 1920 x 1080 601 avchd and 1920 x 1080 60p h.264 converted with mpegstream clip
the project is in 2 parts. 1st part is 54 mins and change, second is 1hr 03 mins and change.
I have tried exporting both self contained and not self contained
When I burn the disc image I have a few spots in the first movie where the picture breaks up. I have tried this several time ( disk image) with different settings. The bad area is always in the same spot and only on the first movie. There is nothing done to these areas except for color correction and audio normalization. I have not seen an issue with the second (longer) movie. I realize I am very near my 120 min limit, and thought this might be compression artifacts, but it's always in the same spot. I just tried changing the color correction slightly in hopes that a fresh render might help.
Is it possible I have some sort of corruption in a file somewhere, My next step is to delete the render files and force a complete re-render of the movie.
Any thoughts ?
This is getting pretty old and I can't live with the bad areas, they look too bad, sort of like HD TV over the air when the signal get weak for a second. ( if you have cable you probably have no idea what I am talking about)

Where I am at now.
I tried the suggestions from skaliki and alchroma. No joy.
I went into the project and started to deleted things, I turned my attention first to the audio and systematically got rid of things like audio files from the second camera and the like. That didn't help. Next I removed the filter for normalization, still no help. Then I deleted the background music, as it was a different format and was converted, still no help.
I alos did a save as under a different name so that I would stop digging this hole deeper.
Started on the video and deleted the chapter marks ( actually all of the markers). That worked, now I have a disc image and a disc to view tonight. I am not sure what the markers were doing, but I am sure glad to be able to burn a disc image again for this movie.
I'll view this disc tonight and see where I am at with this project and start fresh tomorrow morning. I need 30 or so copies by the end of the week so I hope it goes better than it has lately.

Error -50. What does it mean and why does it corrupt files?

recently I was compressing a FCE file when Compressor stopped. It read 'QuickTime error -50'. And since then my file will not open properly, ruining one year's worth of work.
Any idea what -50 is?

A search of Apple's knowledge base indicates -50 means a file system problem. Have you repaired permissions. recently? if not, try that. I assume you have backed up one year's worth of work so you can at least start with your material. You might also try using Alsoft's Disk Warrior to put your files in order. But if your main reference project file is corrupted, you will have to start with your captured clips. Please check in the FCE Forum as well for how to repair FCE project files.

I have created corrupted files when transfering to new laptop

I've just tried to transfer my library from my desktop onto my laptop, somewhere in the process i have managed to corrupt my files.
I can still access my ipod on my desktop, but am unable to update it because i'm told that there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the library.

Do I have a corrupted file?

Working on client project last night, all is well. Today projects loads very slowly, no playback/extreme lag (up to 90 seconds for a clip to play for about 1 second) - have not changed anything on the computer other than disconnect one external hard drive, no new software installations - nothing - end of night stop working and picked up again in the morning. Project is AVCHD, with AE. Fast corrector for colour and curves.
I have already:
- rebooted (many times)
- plugged hard drive that I unplugged last night in
- tested to see if premier issue, all other recent projects load just fine (even my 4k red files load instantly compared to this project)
- reloaded the original assets to the chard drive
Premier Pro CC 2014 8.1 (2014.1 Release)
AE also latest version

My new ipod touch 3g won't hold a charge. The genius bar reset my old one twice and it still wouldn't charge. They gave me a new one but it also runs out of power overnight. They suggested that I might have a corrupted file somewhere.

They then thought I had some corrupted something, somewhere, but did nothing about it. They gave me a new iPod. It however is also discharging. If I do have a problem somewhere, why doesn't it affect my iPhone, which never seems to need a fresh charge. Please advise.

Unfortunately, I am somewhat of an expert on this issue. The problem is with the Charge design. I'm very sure Verizon & Samsung know all about this defect in the hardware The issue is with a hardware switch that gets stuck and drains the battery. It seems to be connected with the camera part. I have exchanged my phone like 5 times, hoping for a better outcome... same problem each time. Finally, when it was out of warranty, the only solution left was to do the hard reset thing, thereby losing all your programs, etc. You will notice after the complete reset that everything works fine for awhile, until you do something that triggers that switch, which I have tracked down to the camera. If you don't use the camera, no problems. One big clue, for me anyway, was when the problem is starting, I lose access to my SD memory card apps.
I HAVE managed to recover my phone just a few days ago without the hard reset, as JCO23 mentioned above. Remove your memory card, restart your phone. When the phone is fully booted, insert your memory card, and it will "mount" just like during startup. Then go to your apps and delete a few at a time. btw, it might crash during this process, in which case you need to start again. keep removing apps a few at a time until the only apps left are the ones stored on the phone itself, not your memory card. You will notice it is now stable, at some point.
I'm also sure by now, you've gotten the usual Verizon response to buy a new phone. I can't wait... I am tired of resetting my phone and losing my apps all the time.
