Is there a way to stop the OS from switching to a newly opened app? I would like to be able to continue what I'm doing while I wait for an app to launch and not get interrupted by a forced entry into the app.
As an example, I'm going to my email in safari, while I wait for it to load, I open an excel document, and the OS decides excel should be the front app, so I go back to safari so I can enter my login info, but halfway through my password the OS decides that excel is where I should finish typing my password.

I changed my id. When I want, now, update my apps I'm asked my pwd corresponding to my old id. I forgot this old pwd and can(t get it from apple. It seems the old id doesn(t exist anymore. What should I do?

If you no longer have access to your iPhone, you will need to contact Apple for help deactivating your phone number from their iMessage system so those with iPhones will send normal text messages to your phone number instead of iMessages.

Not getting texts from iphone users on my new LG S2 phone
Just purchased a LG G2 phone and people who have iphones text me but I'm not receiving them. I've turned off imessaging on old phone and on ipad, deactivated my old iphone online and still can't receive texts.
It can take up to 48 hours for the change to take effect if you followed the recommended steps, or up to 30 days if you did not.
Alternatively, you can contact Apple Support for assistance as well. -
how can I find out what my college kids are buying on itunes. It is charged to my credit card number but the 800 number given to the credit card company takes me to the web site. I can only see purchases with my own account. Short of cutting off apple as a vendor is there a way to see this? Is there a way to look up purchases by the order number?

Are these college kids your kids, or have you allowed details of your credit card to be more freely available? I can't believe the latter ... but who knows.
Anyhow; surely the purchases you see are what has been charged to your account. Assuming you know which of these are yours, the balance has to be that made by the 'College kids'.
Or is there more to this than meets the eye? -
My old apple ID is on my iPad, after I changed my ID on my iPhone
If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

What do I do if I have one Apple ID for my phone and a different one for my mac. I have tried to sync garageband to my mac from my phone but it won't connect. Is it because of the different ID's? If so what can I do to fix it?
You can use one account with iTunes on your Mac, and different account(s) with the Mac App Store (for buying/downloads apps or OS updates for your Mac), iCloud (System Preferences > iCloud) and Messages (Messages > Preferences, or command-comma)

I have Find my Phone enabled on iphone and ipod. Could a possible thief switch off location services to stop it being tracked? If so, an update must place the location services and icloud into the restrictions menu to be protected by the pin to stop it being turned off, surely????
Now find a way of stopping the thief removing the SIM, or simply turning off the phone or restoring it.
The "Find" feature is useful if you mislay the phone, but not usually of value if the phone is stolen.
