What do I do if Mail keeps rejecting my password and I cannot find it anywhere?

I just bought a new Mac mini Lion OS. Everything was going well until I tried to set up my mail account. Even on my old Mac I was getting continual messages to enter my password and no password I tried was accepted. This was going on for the past month. Every time I tried to use Mail I was asked for my keychain password and nothing I tried would work. Then, two days ago I was setting up my new Mac mini and the same thing is now occurring. I cannot send or receive mail. I have tried a bunch of different things such as starting a new account on yahoo! mail, deleting my accounts. I don't have anything of value yet on my new Mac so I would be happy to start the entire installation process over again if that is needed. My question is: how to I get my email to work on this machine? Thanks.

Did you happen to install Cydia or what they refer to as jailbreaker recently?

I am an AOL user and am entering it correctly but it keeps rejecting  I can access my acct via aol no problem
Okay now it's effecting my Iphone and Ipad accts.
    Please advise?

So far as I can tell this is a server overload problem and Apple is working to fix things. I have had the same thing all morning and just now it cleared up, though not with AOL, but my iCloud mail. I was, of course, typing in the correct password, so the error message one keeps getting is very misleading, as the rejection has nothing to do with the PW. I think if we are all patient things will straighten out through the day. My mail is okay as of noon, crossing my fingers, but at least it is nothing I did wrong.

  • Can anyone tell me why iCloud keeps rejecting my password and then all of sudden it will.  It also won't load in my keychain.

  • Mail keeps rejecting my password.

I know that this has been asked like every single day. But i've spent all day trying to find a solution and can not find a single one.
For some stupid reason Mail on my mac keeps rejecting my password. Like to the point where i've deleted the account and it won't even let me connect enough to readd it. I've already wiped out my mac, reinstalled the software, ran disk utilitie, repaired persmissions, reparied disk, restarted in boot, ran mail doctor.. you name it. Nothing is working. I've had my mac for a little over 2 years, and my iphone 4 the almost the same amount. I have never had a problem until recently. I have a yahoo (ymail) account on both and just started experiencing problems on both of them. (Iphone4, I am not getting the emails pushed through.. even i turn off my phone/turn it back on i get like 20). I've even changed my password through the internet browser and i'll think its working until i Quit Mail and reopen and am asked for my password AGAIN! Please help!!
I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, Snow Leopard.
Ps: I've already deleted the keychains and all of that, as i said i've completely wiped out the harddrive and am still having issues with it.

I saw someone on here said to log in to email via the yahoo.com website. So I just logged in with the email address that kept rejecting the password on mac mail, even tho it is an att email address. Now mac mail has stopped rejecting my password.  Why is this? I don't know what IMAP is but I am curious about this connection.

  • Mac mail keeps "rejecting" my password

I am repeatedly receiving a pop-up window that says Mail has rejected my sbc global password. I'll enter the password, submit and the window pops up again. Sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. Obviously, I'm not receiving emails while this is happening ...
    Anyone else experiencing this?

This is often an indication not that there is anything wrong with you password, but that your ISP's password server or POP3 mail server is not responding to the query for mail by your client. It is a problem on the server side—not the client side—of the process, and there is little you can do about it other than…
    • notifying your likely non-responsive ISP, or
    • reducing the frequency with which your client queries for mail.
You can increase the interval from [for example] every minute, to 15 or more minutes, which will decrease the frequency. You do this in the General pane of the Mail Preferences dialog. You choices to Check for new mail: are…
    • every minute
    • every 5 minutes
    • every 15 minutes
    • every 30 minutes
    • every hour
Just imagine how busy those servers would be if every user checked for new mail every minute they were connected!

  • When using Time Machine in Mac Mail, everything works fine but restored files do not appear in MM - On My Mac, and I cannot find them anywhere.  Thanks

Time Machine Problem: Mac Mail.  Cannot Find Restored Files in Mac Sidebar where they are supposed to go.
I am using Mountain Lion on my MacBook.  I have successfully used Time Machine in the past, but I have incurred the following problem that I am requesting help on.
I am attempting to recover Sent  and Inbox Mac Mail sent.  I go through all the steps properly and locating what I want to recover, and after hitting Restore everything seems to be working and I get a message "Restoring 207 files".  The guides say that then I am supposed to find the files in Mac Mail sidebar under   ON MY MAC.  But they are not there nor anywhere else I have looked.  In other words, everything appears to be working fine except I cannot find the restored files.
    Thank you for you help.
    Jerry

Although you can restore messages from a Time Machine snapshot within the Mail application, it generally won't work with messages that were saved by an older version of Mail. In that case, you have to use an alternative method.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Inside that folder are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use. Decide which ones you want to restore messages from.
Enter Time Machine and scroll back to the snapshot you want. Select the account folders you want and then selectRestore ... to... from the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the snapshot window. Restore the folders to the Desktop, not to their original location.
From the Mail menu bar, select
    File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the folders you restored to the Desktop. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest. Then delete the folders on the Desktop.

  • Mail Keeps Asking For Password And Rejecting It?

I have just been phoned by a friend with an early G5 iMac running OSX 10.3.9.
He's been having slight problems with Mail for a while but now it has refused to send emails.
Whenever he tries he gets a window requesting the password for the account but each time it says that the POP server has rejected it.
He is adamant that he is using the correct password.
I have had this happen occasionally but can't remember how I resolved it  .  .  .  .  I even suspect it may have cured itself a day or so later.
So has anyone got any helpful ideas or suggestions?

Unfortunately when he ran Keychain First Aid it showed there were no problems.
When I finished phoning him Mail was still requesting and rejecting passwords.
I have a feeling that whenever it has happened to me I have given up in despair only to find that a day or so later things are back to normal, which would suggest a temporary problem at the ISP's end.

  • Mail keeps rejecting my password - no email access for 4 days :-(0

I have not been able to receive or send any mails from my mac or ipod touch. When I get onto the icloud. site I can see that my mails are coming through so it seems to be a port/server problem with mail settings.
Have tried every trick posted online - deleted old account and set it up again, changed port settings to 993 and reconfigured for imap.
    Nothing is working.
Is anyone else having these problems? It's driving me bonkers.

Thanks for your input Csound but it's still not working ... argh!
I have changed password for extra strength and also done all the settings you mentioned. Still showing up as a greyed-out account in my mail program that can't go online.
This is how I have the account prefences set up:
And this is the advanced setting box:
    Any other ideas?

  • Mail keeps asking for password and icloud setting do not load in system preferences

    Hi,
I have a mac mini server with mavericks, i have 2 iMacs as clients running mavericks too, when i use iMac (A) mail app and icloud work fine, them i take iMac (B) and mail app start asking for password , it just won't take the password, icloud do not load and cannot use anything else on system prferences because it locks system preferences, i need to force quit system prefrences , so I return to iMac (A) and i get same behaivor as iMac (B), i would appreciate your help for finding a solution for this.
All network users get the same behaivor, local users do not get this behaivor.
    Thanks
    Hector

    Hector;
I have the same problem. The solution is to log into your client, open Keychain, run Keychain First Aid under file menu. If it fails to find your keychain, note the path, mount the disk that it is looking for, and rerun.
In short, you need to have the disk that your keychain is sitting on mounted. While your user account is mounted, Maveriks cannot match the reference path. Looking like a bug.
    Example:
my folder sits on a second disk on server. It is properly setup in the mavericks server.
On the server, it is locally referred to as: /Volumes/my_disk/Users/my_user. I can log in to mail on the server when I log in with my user name.
In the workgroup manager, the same location is referred to as:
    afp://my_server.local/Users/my_user (or smb)
    /Network/Servers/my_server.local/Volumes/my_disk/Users/my_user
So this is the network path. So the client should be looking for that. But instead, it looks for the local disk, which is not mounted as such. In other words, it looks for:
    /Volumes/my_disk/Users/my_user/Library/Keychains
    instead of
    /Network/Servers/my_server.local/Volumes/my_disk/Users/my_user/Library/Keychains
To eliminate this problem, you mount the volume on the client, so it can find. I will keep the editorial to myself, but this is not quality software.

  • What do I do if I forgot my iPad password and I have find my iPad with my iPhone?

Last night, while I was very tired, I was going to change my password on my iPad. I did, and then fell asleep and now I can't remember he password. I have my iPad connected to my Find My iPhone/iPad and I was going to try to see of I could set a NEW password to my iPad from Find my iPhone on my iPhone. But, it wouldn't allow me to, and it said it would just set the password as the already existing password on my iPad. Any help?

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

  • HT204187 Email account does not work on the Mac but works on my iPad and iPhone. The account information was added on the Mac. I keeps rejecting my password.

I have seral email accounts on my Mac. One does not work on the Mac but works on my iPad and iPhone. The account information was added on the Mac. I keeps rejecting my password.

You don't input the information in manually for iCloud mail. It is automatically set up for you when you sign into iCloud via System Preferences and choose the Mail checkbox. Sign out of iCloud or deselect Mail in iCloud preferences. Open Mail's preferences and choose accounts tab. If iCloud account still exists in the list, delete it. Sign back into iCloud or check the box for mail. The account will be auto created for you.

  • I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account. Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my account every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail. I cannot edit the outgoing server; how can I send emails?

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

  • My charter email account was working fine last night and now today my mac book pro keeps requesting the password and when I enter it, it still cannot receive mail?

    Hello zeern2003
Start with the article below to troubleshoot issues with Mail sending and receiving email. You may not have to do every step, but pay attention to what is relevant. Start with using Connection Doctor to bring up a window that will tell you what could be the issue.

  • Mail keeps deleting the password for iCloud?

Using mail on an iMac, mail will not keep the iCloud password and deletes it after it has been saved. It also keeps taking the accounts offline when I am trying to send e-mail frustrating! Why not just log onto the accounts as outlined in the preferences.

Thanks for the reply but it seems that something else is also going on.
When this little window appears asking for my password I am given the option to "cancel" but nothing happens if I click that box. I'm reallly given only two options: typing my password into that box or cancelling the MAIL program, shutting down my internet connection and then re-opening MAIL. If I do neither of these I'm frozen.
If I restart the program I find two things. All accounts are off-line and my password has disappeared from Preferences?Account Information. If I re-type my password and click all accounts back on-line I'm okay.
But what bothers me most is the removal of my password from Preferences. How could some failure to connect to the server be responsible for this? Couldn't the problem somehow be in the MAIL program? Maybe this problem is triggered by a failed connecion to the server, but how could anything like that affect settings in my program? If something happening out there in server-land could erase my password I almost feel like I'm being hacked.

if go to Preferences/Account Info I see that my password has been removed. I have to re-enter it there and then instruct accountsto go back on-line(I have two accounts active adn it will always be only the password that had been challenged that is gone; the one for the other account is still there.)
So, difficulty connecting to the server or not, ow could that effectively change settings in my program - that is, the password I have set in my Preferences. Whatever is happening is somehow corrupting the MAIL program.
