What do i do if my ipod 4 gen nano says do not dissconnect

i have an ipod 4 gen nano the pink one and when I also unplug it it says ok to unplug and after that I cant go to my menu or play anything at all

Hi, allijenner25.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPod nano constantly displays an "Ok to disconnect" message.  I would recommend resetting your iPod nano as outlined in attached article below.

The operating system for the iPod, album art, databases, etc. all make up the "other stuff". Think of it as all the backstage things required to make your ipod work.

    Hello Bobbie,
Have you authorized your iTunes library yet to play and sync your iTunes purchases? To do this, head to the Store drop down menu and choose Authorize This Computer.  Then enter in your iTunes store account credentials and then try resyncing your iPod.

  • My 6th gen nano screen will not rotate, stuck perpendicular to buttons

All of a sudden, my 6th gen nano screen will not rotate. I have it on a watch band and it is perpendicular to the buttons (and my view of it).

planb77, you have truly taught me a lesson, and after all these years, I finally see that it is very helpful to READ THE MANUAL.  I was having this issue, and it was spell out for me all this time.  I never liked to look at the manual to resolve my technical issues, but I will always go there first to see if I can resolve any issues.

  • My iPod classic is saying "do not disconnect" but neither my MacBook Pro or iTunes is recognizing that it is plugged in.  What can I do?

About 2 weeks ago my iPod told me that something (I forget what now) was corrupt and my iPod had to be restored to factory settings, so I did that.  Before I had a chance to resync my iPod, my harddrive in my MacBook Pro crashed and had to be replaced.  Now when I try connecting my iPod classic, my iPod says "do not disconnect" but neither my laptop or iTunes is recognizing that my iPod is plugged in.  I have tried using another cord, restarting my iPod, restarting my laptop, iTunes is up to date...what else is there that I can do to get my iPod to connect to my laptop?
    Thanks in advance!

Try a system reset, hold down the off button until it turns of and then back on again, this might not work though if it is properly stuck. If all else fails go to Apple

i'm stock in restore process:( what can i do? using ipod 5thgen nano

    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Three 5th gen nanos. One NOT recognized by itunes and computer; other 2 fine.

I have 3 daughters and three 5th gen nanos. I use the same cord, plug and computer, and one is not being recognized by itunes or computer and will not charge; other 2 fine. Something wrong with just the one. Resetting (pressing menu and center until apple appears?) doesn't work. One daughter very SAD. Please help if you can.
Oh, and I've also put it in disk mode. Still not recognized.

I think I found the problem, and it may be useful to others. I cosely looked at the dock connector next to the earphone jack and found that it has a chip in it. Not good news for Gen 5 ipod nano's. Apparently, the connector is bonded to the logic board. I did find that if I gently put pressure on it in one directio or the other, it will make a connection.
Must break the bad news to daughter. Sad face.

  • My 1st gen. mini says 'do not disconnect', but nothing changes

as i said in the subject, i have an iPod Mini first generation. Since 3 weeks i have some problems with putting new songs on it. when i connect the iPod, everythings ok. my computer (Windows XP) recognises the iPod, and iTunes gets started. the ipod says 'do not disconnect' as usual, but songs aren't transported to the ipod, or songs i removed from iTunes dont leave the iPod. after a while the 'do not disconnect' goes away, so it should be updated. also itunes says that my ipod is up to date. can somebody please help me?

  • What do you do when your iPod touch 5th generation will not turn on, and it isn't in recovery mode?

Today, my iPod touch 5th gen wasn't turning on, but during school earlier today it was working just fine. When I got on the bus, it wouldn't turn on? I got home and I plugged it into the charger and tried to see if it would turn on that way, nope. Also, there would be no way for it to be in recovery mode, because of the fact that the home button is pushed in and wont work. I've had my iPod for 2 years, is it just old and decided to give out?

  • My 1st-gen Nano has decided not to connecet...after having it for a year.

I've got a First Generation iPod Nano, White, 4GB. I got it on December 25th, 2005. I have been using it since and it works fine. I have an iBook G4 that it has been connected to as well. Well, all of a sudden this week, the iPod doesn't want to mount up to the computer anymore. It doesn't show up in Finder or iTunes when it is connected. However, when it is plugged in through the USB cable, it still receives power and charges. I've also tried to connect the iPod to a Windows machine, but that wouldn't recognize it either. I've tried multiple cables, but that isn't the problem.
So basically I've got an iPod nano that charges, but doesn't connect to a computer, so I can't change any of my music. I've reset the iPod and iBook several times, reinstalled iTunes, even started it up in Disk Mode to make sure that that wasn't a problem. I can't Restore or Reformat it either, because it doesn't show up in iTunes.
    Has this ever occured before?

  • IPod continues to say "Do Not Disconnect"

No matter how long I leave my iPod connected to my computer to synch and charge, there is always a "Do Not Disconnect" message displayed on the screen. This is so even though (a) the battery icon shows a full charge (if I read it correctly; it has been charging for the past 18 hours, at least); and (b) iTunes says the synch is complete. What am I supposed to do? Leave it there forever? Ignore the message and yank it out anyway? I saw a post somewhere recommending to "Deselect Enable Disc Use" in options but I have found no such option.

If you look at the pictures on both the linked pages (that planb77 mentioned) you will see the Summary tab +in the picture.+ Click on the iPod that is listed under Devices and the Summary screen is displayed.
BTW, although it was partly explained in the linked articles, you should always use the "eject" or "safely disconnect drive" buttons of any device that can be written to. In other words, memory keys, iPods, mp3 players etc. Using that button allows the computer to check that the device is not in use. If it is - and you simply pull the device out, any file that has not yet been fully saved will be corrupted.
Glad that both myself and planb77 were able to help.

  • 5-Gen Nano Menu Button Not Working

My first post - Cannot get the Menu button to function on my 5th generaton Nano, always has functioned before. So I cannot get it to perform a reset! When I toggle the Hold switch & then hold the Center & Menu buttons down simultaneously, the Ipod turns off but I never see the Apple logo! Tried this while connected to different USB ports, while connected to external power, and while unconnected.
Also been through all the Apple Website directed-actions including uninstalling all Itunes, Quick-time, and related programs and folders (except was unable to delete Temp folder).
I have reinstalled Itunes, and restored the Ipod to no avail!
Anyone have a clue for me?
    Thanking you all in advance…

You posted to the wrong area of discussions. This is the 5th Generation iPod group (the video full sized iPods that were released previous to the "Classic" models). If you are asking a Nano question, you want to post to this area...

  • 2nd gen appletv says movies not authorised/ user name/password not accepted on appletv

    This is so weird.
I have home-shared and can play all un-DRM stuff e.g. music and personal movies. However, TV shows and Movies downloaded from iTunes won't play. It keeps asking me to authorize my computer on iTunes. The computer is however authorised and just to be double sure I have authorised multiple times (and get the message "this computer is already authorised"). I also de-auth'd and re-auth'd. This is all after updating both the AppleTV and iTunes to the most up-to-date versions.
This is all happening with a Win7 PC so I home-shared from my Mac as well and exactly same thing. One other strange thing: I tried to sign in to iTunes on the AppleTv, just in case thats what is needed to get these things to play. It tells me my user name/ password is incorrect. This is the weirdest because it is the exact user name password I used to home-share and even buy the last TV show. I have repeatedly entered it so I am dead sure I have not entered it wrongly.
Has anyone encountered and fixed something like this? Cold rebooting also has no effect at resolving.
    Thanks

My id/password combo is ok - 100% sure.
Took the bold step of resetting to factory defaults. Now it doesn't even sign in to itunes sharing from the AppleTV anymore: says id/password wrong. It was only iTunes saying this before. So now I can't even access stuff on my PC anymore. Yet at this very moment I'm downloading a movie on iTunes on the computer meaning I will only be able to see it on the computer.
    Quite disappointed in Apple!

  • Is it ok to disconnect my ipod when it says do not disconnect?

I know this sounds like a stupid question. Will it do anything if I disconnect it while it isn't playing anything or transferring anything? When I play it on my Xbox 360 there is no choice but to disconnect it when it says not to because there is no eject on it.

Patience is a virtue... I used to ignore the warning sign when it suited me (i.e I was in some kind of stupid hurry) I got away with it for sometime and then... I lost the lot and with no backup it took me another 2 days to drag all my music back on. If your ipod has a hdd fitted then never disconnect it if you can hear/feel disc activity - if you do don't expect it to recover! The don't disconnect warning is rather fundamental so don't unless you absolutely feel you have to.

  • Any decent car mounts for the 3rd gen nano that are not a total rip?

The only one I find so far is Proclip and there is not a chance I'm paying for that. Their separate mount and clip system just seems to me to be a way to gouge you twice. You have to buy the nano clip for $25 which by itself is useless until you buy the dash mount to connect it to for another $30. Add in $10 shipping and you are paying $75 for 2 pieces of about 10 cents worth of injection molded plastic and some adhesive tape. Gee can I please?
    Anybody have a better solution?
