What do I do if my phone was disconnected during an update?

I accidentally disconnected my phone during an update. Now it has the infamous itunes icon with cord pointing below. I've already reconnected it and it's in 'recovery mode' however my itunes bar says 'preparing iphone for restore' and it's been doing this for about an hour now. What now?

  • I can't sync my iPhone, brand new computer and it says the phone was disconnecte

I can't sync my phone to my new macbook pro. I bought it the day after Lion OS came out and it is installed. When I use itunes to sync my phone it says that the phone was disconnected. I tried several cords and the help line. They said it is a probelm with lion and that I need to reinstall it. No idea how to do that. They said it would take a while and I didn't have time then.

If you ever want to cut down on back up times eject your SIM card before starting...you should see the over all time go down a noticable amount.
Disclaimer: this does not mean that it will zip like lightning, just move faster than it dies with the card in...
let me know what you see happen.

  • My iPhone 4 was disconnected during ios 5 update - now i have error -50 showing and cannot get phone back on. Help!

during IOS5 update my phone was disconnected from itunes. i reconnected it and continued the update by clicking 'continue restore'. Itunes is now saying the the phone is updated to version 5 and appears to have fully synced. however, when i turned the phone back on i have the set-up screen and when i select to restore the phone through itunes i get a message with options to 'continue restore' or 'delete backup'. when i select 'continue restore' itunes then gives me an 'error -50' message and just syncs the phone but nothing seems to happen - the phone does not do anything.
Should i delete the back up and start over, or will that delete all my contacts?
    Any help is much appreciated!

    Everything is Sorted!
The release of iTunes 11.0.2 and iOS 6.1.2 for my iPhone 4, seems to have sorted everything. I can now sync music, films and photos between my MacBook and my phone.
I was dubious about blindly doing the updates but decided they couldn't really mess up any further functionality so I went for it and it's sorted now.
Look in to, and take the gamble, it's up to you.

  • My phone was killed by your update. AGAIN! It is now inoperable and stuck on recovery mode. WTH?

My phone was killed by your update.  AGAIN!  Last time I had to deal with discourteous, uneducated, unhelpful, and downright rude customer service reps (who, by the way, seemed to ignore the fact that I had set up an appointment).  Once the issue was finally acknowledged, I had to erase all content in my phone.  I could have done that on my own.  This time, the update has made my phone completely inoperable, so I can't even call or be called by Apple support?!  This is absolutely unacceptable.  I can't just have my only phone cease to work every time you feel like killing it.
It's stuck in the "connect to iTunes" screen with an image of a USB cable pointing at an iTunes logo.
    Error message no. 14
I have tried all possible recommended solutions from all help sites.  I have removed all usb connections, except the iPhone.  I have updated iTunes and Windows 7 completely, and restarted my computer.  I have tried restoring it from another computer, which seemed to work, except for when I plugged it into my computer and asked it to load all of my software/media, it died again.

Yeah, I was a little upset when I wrote that, and I had copied and pasted it into this discussion board without really looking at who it was directed to.  It's upsetting.  And I absolutely refuse to go to the Apple store for help.  They are incredibly rude.  Besides I can't make an appontment without my phone. . .

Probably because it was hacked/jailbroken to unlock it. Jailbroken or hacked phones cannot receive support on these forums. Sorry.

  • HT1351 My iphone was disconnected during a sinc and now has songs that are grey with a red circle and sqare in the middle of it. None of these songs play. tried deleting all the songs and re sincing but to no avail???

my iphone was disconnected during a sink and now many songs are grey and have a red circle with a red square in the middle, they will not play

Thanks, this is not an ideal answer but probably the most sensible one in my case.
I will try it unless someone has a better suggestion, but I'll wait a bit as it will take me a few days anyway (I had actually tried to create a new smaller playlist or download by album, but at this stage the music app is not letting me queue a list of songs for download - I think I will have to disable and re-enable iTunes match which will probably delete all the songs).
I have to say I am not very impressed with Apple here - having an online backup of all your data and beeing able to restore it to a new device easily was a strong selling point of iCloud. For music, they are Definitly not delivering at the stage.

I would first try to reset the PRAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Then try booting into Safe Mode
(Hold shift upon powering the unit on and wait. A loading bar will appear under the Apple Logo. This may take awhile.)

  • Iv just updated my iphone 4s to ios7 and now the phone will not charge or hold battrry life .the phone was working fine before update whats going on ??? software or hardware

iphone 4s need help battery not workin since uptade of ios7

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • I synched my iPhone 5, then proceeded with the latest software update.  I received an error message as the phone was restarting that the update could not be completed.  Now iTunes is saying that it detects a device that is in restore mode.  Help!

Current iTunes message: iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.

Thanks, it's working.  I was concerned to restore, as I didn't see my backed-up phone appearing as an option prior to launching the restore.

  • TS1398 my iphone 4s lets me connect to my home wi-fi but then i get disconnected. my phone was fine until i updated the software to iOS 6.1.3 version

i ahve a iphone 4S and was working fine until the last software upgrade. i connect to my home wi-fi and it works fine for awhile then it disconnects me. never had this problem until that last software upgrade

    Hi Precious.eyez,
I understand that you are having Wi-Fi connectivity issues. We have a great resource for troubleshooting these type of issues:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Try moving closer to the Wi-Fi router or base station to see if the Wi-Fi signal improves.
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove your iOS device from any case, stand, or other attachment to see if the Wi-Fi signal improves.
Open Safari and try to load a webpage to see if the Wi-Fi signal improves.
Alternatively, you may want to make sure your network does not have a common name:
Avoid giving your wireless network a common name (SSID)

  • HT201263 My phone was fine until I updated itunes

Now my phone is stuck in recovery mode after an update. I get unknown error 1403 after itunes tries to restore the phone for more than 10 minutes. Any way to fix? The help article for error 1403 just tells me to connect to itunes. Connecting to itunes tells me to restore, when I hit the restore button, it updates for a loooooong time then says "unable to restore, unknown error (1403).

A few of the suggestions that I found on this forum and other forums as well. Try them one by one in order.
    1)  Make sure your iTunes is updated. Verify by checking it manually.
    2)  Reboot your computer and iPhone and change U.S.B. port.
    3)  Turn OFF the firewall and anti-virus on your computer. Also turn OFF the firewall on your router (if you are connected to the Internet through a wifi router). [Check the posting of andrea manuel on 2nd page here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3406391?start=15&tstart=0]
    4)  As a last resort, place your iPhone in to DFU mode and then restore. Search in Google "force iPhone in to DFU mode"  and follow the instructions precisely.
