What do I do when an error messages says apple mobile device failed to start?
I am trying to update my itunes as it is not opening as the last time I updated I forgot to restart.
An error messages appears saying apple mobile device failed to start. Please check your have sufficient privileges to start system services.
Anyone know what is wrong?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I receive a massage that a new version of ITunes was available (11.1.4). I proceeded to update, the download went ok but when installing the Message “Service ’Apple Mobile Device’ failed to start, verify that you have sufficient Privileges to start system Services”
On pressing retry I got the same message.
On pressing Ignore, I got the message “ITunes was not installed correctly, please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)
I reinstalled with the same error messages and the same results.
I uninstalled existing and reinstalled from scratch and the same error messages again.
I try to repair and at the end it said it had installed correctly – but when it tried to start I got the message “This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem” I now get the same message when I first start the computer but when I press ok I receive ““ITunes was not installed correctly; please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)” again.
It appears the update has not only corrupted the operating system (Xp Pro SP3) of my computer but I have no backups to my IPhone, my wife’s IPhone or the three others phones that use my computer.

Tonight I tried to install the latest update for iTunes, only to get the error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start". I tried the installation again with my iPod connected (the only Apple device I own) and it made no difference. So I tried uninstalling and re-installing, and the same error message came up.

Seems some sort of clash between the installed components and the new installer causes the install to go haywire for some people. I don't have a detailed expanation of why, but I do know that attempting to repair or reinstall iTunes alone in the usual way won't work. You need to work through the steps outlined below. I've updated them a little since yesterday....

Restart PC
Uninstall iTunes and attempt to reinstall
Verify that I am signed in as an administrator

Did you try to update iTunes through "Apple Software Update"?
Uninstall everything {iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour , Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)}

I received this Error Message while trying to install on my netbook again. (Service 'Apple Mobile Device' Failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. I keep getting a message saying, "Apple Mobile Device failed to start" Verify privileges".
I couldn't open my itunes so after trying to do a fix that didn't work I uninstalled itunes then tried to install it again. I get to the start service portion of the download and get the Device failed message. I don't have a mobile device associated with itunes for this to even come up. Can anyone help?
