This sounds to me like a fairly common Inverter Fault.
It is not the screen that needs replacing by the sounds of it,
It sounds like either the inverter board or the inverter cable needs replacing.
My understanding is that inverter / inverter cable repairs aren't too expensive, but not too cheap!
Obviously your best way to find out how much it would cost to be repaired would be to take it in to an Apple Store, as I have never had to have one replaced myself, but the information I'm providing, is based on what I've read elsewhere.

What does it mean when the screen flickers and flashes after 20min. of working fine? I have a Macbook Pro 17" screen and it's the late 2008 model

I am having trouble with a Mac book Pro 17 inch late 2008 Notebook.
When I turn it on and booted up it goes to desktop and everything is fine for about 20 minutes then after 20 minutes the screening starts rapidly flashing and flickering and everything on the screen locks up including the mouse becomes frozen.
What does it mean when this happens? Is it an issue with the monitor screen or is it some other internal hardware issue?

Is the hold switch in the on position? Try resetting the iPod. To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. The iPod may have simply locked up.

The screen on my laptop goes blank suddenly; is there a way to fix this?

Last night my computer shut off without warning and when I tried to restart it and all it would do was beep continuously(beep-five seconds-beep). I say shut off but it wasn't completely powered down because I could still hear the fan going. I finally got it to restart in safe mode then restarted it normally from there. It's been working fine since then expect that once last night after getting it back on and twice today the screen has suddenly gone blank/black and I've been unable to operate it and had to force shut it down and reboot to get it to work again. Anyone have any idea whats causing this and how/if I can fix it?

I see that you are using Firefox 5, have you tried to upgrade to Firefox 7 (today is Firefox 8 launch though)?
If upgrading is not an option, I will encourage you too start the browser in [[Safe Mode]].

I have called Verizon numerous times regarding these issues. They tell me to do different things that never help. We eventually did a factory reset and it still has the same issues. Help! I have done that several times. In fact, every time I call Verizon with my phone problems, they have me do the same things repeatedly. I keep telling them I have already done them but they insist they are SURE it will work this time. It never does. You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

This is something I've been wondering. I am a bit like you, I like being able to have a glance at emails or Facebook updates without having to log in, and I think it would be great to be able to turn off the notification switching the screen on, especially for emails as I do get a lot, and Facebook, but I somehow doubt it is possible.
I am currently monitoring how much this eats up my battery charge. On a normal day, after an overnight charge, I would probably still have 30%-40% left when I leave work in the evening. There are a few ways to get the screen to "enlarge", so it depends on what you are doing to make it happen.
For example, on a trackpad you can double-tap (not click) with two fingers to zoom in web pages. Or you can slide two fingers in a spreading out fashion to zoom in.
Do you have any notion about what you are doing when the undesired enlarging occurs?

And you are positive the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano?
Have you tried another set of headphones to see if the problem persisted? If so, it's likely that the headphone jack needs replacing.
