What do I do with "Confirm application change"?

Just recently, whenever I try to connect to my wireless internet at home, this message pops up:
"Confirm Application Change: an application named airport needs to access your keychain but there is an existing version. Do you want to change all your keychain items to allow the new version access your keychain? This change is permanent and affects all keychain items in all your keychains"
I did a virus scan, and nothing came up. I haven't changed any of my applications, so what should I do?

Welcome to the Discussions.
Go to Applications>Utilities and launch Keychain Access. In the Window menu chose Keychain First Aid and run it. It should cure it.

Confirm Application Change problem

Since downloading and installing Security Update 2009-004, Mail repeatedly brings up the Confirm Application Change dialogue box. I click on Change All (which I assume is the right answer to keep access to my various passwords) and Mail either freezes or becomes unresponsive for several minutes before launching the dialogue again. I click Change All again, and Mail freezes once again or belatedly brings the dialogue box back up. The same happens with Safari when I first launch it. Any suggestions? The Security Update has pretty much rendered Mail unusable.

The problem with archive and installing, is that you may be left with applications that are older than some of their kernel extensions until you perform a followup combo update to the same version you had before.
It is unknown at this time where the file damage is.
Furthermore, we don't know how full your hard disk is. If it is too full, there might be directory damage too. Also, if you ever force restarted your computer, had a kernel panic, or it unexpectedly shut itself down, that can damage the directory too. Before doing any further investigation, backup* your data.

? Confirm Application Change (airport)

Since I've had this iMac for the past 5 years, I have never been confused about the machine because it has been taking care of itself.
Today, I have gotten a confirm application change:
"An application named airport needs to access your keychain, but there is an existing version. Do you want to change all your keychain items to allow the new version access to you keychain?
'This change is permanent and affects all keychain items in all your keychains.'
My airport has been working fine all these years. Why is there a new and old version? Is it a new version of airport the program? I have been saying 'Dont change' and 'Deny' until I can figure out what this is.
Anyone know if this a virus that asked for the change?

I believe the wording is confusing. Apple should get a hold of an English major and fix this right away. The problem is:
When you update critical software, a pop-up says, "Blah blah has been updated. Do you want to allow the new version to access the same keychain items (such as passwords) as the previous version?"
This is a question that warrants a yes or no, but the clickable options that follow are "Don't Change" and "Change All." This is really confusing. Don't change what? Passwords? Keychain items?
It's like if my wife said, "Should we give the new housekeeper the house keys?" and I responded, "Don't change." She wouldn't know what I'm saying.
I think Apple should clarify the language used in this pop-up.

Safari keeps asking me to confirm application change

I updated recently to the beta version of Safari and keep getting asked to confirm the application change (sometimes twice in 3 seconds!) before it will continue to load the page. The exact message is as follows: "Safari has been updated. Do you want to allow the new version to access the same keychain items (such as passwords) as the previous version? This change is permanent and affects all keychain items used by Safari." It then gives me the options of 'Don't Change' or 'Change All'. Since I don't want to change them, I hit 'Don't Change' obviously.
I've looked in Preferences to see if there's something there that's been changed and can't see anything that might be it. It's getting a bit head-wrecking, almost to the point where I'm considering switching browsers!

No you won't have to reenter password information by selecting "change all". However, it is a very good idea to have a backup of your Keychain files. Do you have an external backup of some or all of your computer files?

What's the deal with the Applications folder within the User folder?

In my user folder (the one with my name) there's another Applications folder filled with .cab files that are all dated, and some have "Audio" or "ACT" or some weird naming in the middle. Some examples of what they're called are: Nov2008_XACT_x64.cab ; Oct2005_xinput_x64.cab ; OCT2006_d3dx9_31_x64.cab ; Nov2008_XAudio_x64.cab
1) What are .cab files?
2) Why are they there, did an external program add them or something?
3) Can I delete them?

If it were my Mac, I'd trash them. Here's what I found on them similar to what WZZZ found for you;
Opening the CAB
You will download a file whose name consists entirely of a number and which has the extension .cab. A .cab is a Microsoft “cabinet” file: essentially it’s a Zipped folder structure with the ability to store longer file names.
Depending on your version of Mac OS, the built-in Zip utility may not be able to open it, but there are programs that can. If you are on a Power PC-version Mac (A G3 or a G4 or a G5...) then Stuffit Expander will do the trick. If you have an Intel-processor Mac, Stuffit has a bug that may prevent it. Only one way to find out...
If your browser is correctly set up, it will leave the file in your Downloads folder with a subfolder above it containing the unpacked content.
If you can’t find it, start Stuffit and drag the .cab onto it.
Stuffit will either issue an error message, or it will leave a folder containing the template in the same folder as the .cab file. If you get an "Error 17540" from Stuffit, that means "Can't understand the format" and the extracted template file will not be useable.

Confirm Application Change Dialogue box

I opened my MacBook just now and got a Keychain message:
SystemUIServer has been updated. Do you want to allow the new version to access the same keychain items as the previous version.
I understand what it's asking - what I don't understand is why because I haven't made any changes in well over 2 weeks since my last apple update. What is the SystemUIServer and would it just update something out of the blue?
Or is this a virus?

On your iPhone go to Settings > Store.
Select the Apple ID at the bottom.
Select Sign Out at the menu selection provided.
Follow this by signing in with your new Apple ID/iTunes store account.
All apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. In order to install an app update for the apps downloaded with your previous Apple ID/iTunes account, you will need to use that account and password.

Need help with what to do if I want to change my apple id but my id is my icloud e-mail address

I have spent days and hours trying to find a definite answer on what I can do with my situation. I have been able to figure out that I cannot change my apple id because my apple id is my icloud e-mail address. But does that leave me no option? Does that mean that I will have to create a new apple id and subsequently I will also get a new icloud e-mail address? If so, then how will I retain all of my purchases? Is it possible to delete my icloud account and then change my apple id?
I would really appreciate anyone that can give me a clear answer on this. Thanks!!

Sorry I missed this post earlier. For some reason I didn't get an email alert that you had posted.
If you want to want to change your Apple ID and your iCloud email address, you'll need to create a new Apple ID using the name you want, then create a new iCloud account with it and migrate your data to the new account. After creating your new Apple ID, save any photo stream photos on your iOS device that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll. If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password to turn off Find My iDevice and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted. Then sign back in with a new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data to the new account. You will then have to recreate your notes in the new account from the emails you sent earlier. When you turn on Mail in Settings>iCloud you will choose your new @icloud.com email address.
Once this is done on the first device, if you have other devices, you can just save any photo strema photos, delete the existing account, then choose Delete from My iDevice (since the data is already in the new account) and sign back in with the new ID to download the data.
You'll then have to decide if you want to keep using the old ID for iTunes or not. Personally, I wouldn't recommend changing it to a new ID for several reasons. First, all of your current purchased media is tied to the current ID and cannot be moved to your new ID. This means that you will end up with different things purchased with different IDs over time, which can make things complicated. Secondly, if you have already enabled automatic downloads, or have downloaded previous purchased using your old ID, you cannot change it to your new ID for 90 days from the time you first did this. Once this waiting period expires you can then change to the new ID and access previous purchases with your new ID, but you would not be able to access previous purchased from the old ID again for another 90 days. (This is what I mean by it being complicated to have multiple Apple IDs for iTunes purchases.)

You should never select Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an open with dialog.
Firefox wouldn't ask this if it can handle the file.<br />
You will have to remove that action in Tools > Options > Applications

The default font remains Myriad Pro until you change it, either in the RGB/CMYK Startup files or in the preferences, options depending on versions.
Concerning missing font names, I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.

Well, if it's 1080p TV, then go into System Preferences > Displays.
Sometimes you have to click on detect displays & a PreferencePane should appear on each display device for you to change the resolution.
Also decide if you want it mirrored, or extended. And also move the display to the correct position for extended so you are moving the mouse in the direction of the 2nd display being the TV.
Option + F1 = Brings Display preferences up immediately.
Command + F1 or F2 = from memory that's the shortcut to switch back & forth between mirroring & extended.
