What do I look for when installing additional RAM?

I have an old Quicksilver G4 that has three slots in it that are all being used, 640 mb of RAM (2-256 mb and 1-128 mb sticks, SDRAM, and speed PC133-333) and a Mirror Door G4 with two open slots, 768 mb of RAM (1-256 mb and 1-512 mb sticks, DDR SDRAM).
I want to add RAM to both of these. Can I add to both of these or swap out for larger mb sticks? Can someone please tell me what my options are?
Thanks in advance.
PowerMac G5 2.3GHz 250 HD 1.5 Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi Kately:
Both the QuickSilver and the MDD G4s will take 512MB in each RAM slot. You'll want the best quality RAM you can get (Panther and Tiger have higher specs for RAM than earlier versions of the Mac OS), I'd recommend Kingston or Azen.
The QuickSilver takes PC133 SDRAM, whereas the MDD either takes PC2100 or PC2700 DDR SDRAM. If you mix PC2100 and PC2700, the PC2700 will operate at PC2100, so you'll want to match what's already in your towers. The easiest way is to take one module from each computer with you when you buy your RAM.
Hope this helps,
Andrew Penner

  • What to look for when purchasing iPhone external battery?

Next month I’ll be taking a 5 day trip to NYC and I’ll be using my built-in iPhone 4 Google Maps GPS a lot, so I’m in the market to buy an external battery. So with that said, what should I look for when purchasing one? I’ve noticed a lot of these advertise the mAh (milliampere-hour), and then some will also advertise the amperes themselves (i.e. 5200 mAh (2 amps)). What’s the difference when they advertise both?

DVI support is a must and most LCDs in the size that you are looking for are going to have it.
Your MB can drive a display with a resolution of up to 1920 x 1200 which just happens to be the resolution of the 23" Apple Cinema HD Display. I didn't want to pay Apple prices for a display, so I went looking at Dell. I picked up a 20" 2007WFP display from them for about $360 shipped and it works like a charm with the Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter.
I prefer displays that use a S-IPS panel over the more common and cheaper TN panels. S-IPS is much better for color reproduction and that is why Apple uses them in their Cinema Displays. Dell uses the same panel is some of their 20" models - I got one - but some buyers are very upset that they got a TN panel instead of the S-IPS panel. I was lucky I guess.

  • What One Specification Should I Look for When Buying Optical 5.1 Speakers for the iMac 27" i7?

Hi. I have an analog 5.1 (it came from my previous PC setup) now but only the subwoofer works, the controller for its satellite speakers maybe have been busted by the high voltage from the outlet (I've since gotten a nice AVR). If replace it since the late 2009 iMac and Macs in general only do surround sound (5.1 or higher) if it's not analog. I've read somewhere that is should be digital or optical.
When I look for the specification that'll make this Mac do 5.1 surround, what should I look for in the speaker's specifications. I believe the non-analog 5.1 speakers are way more expensive, I'll probably buy one used but what brand and model can anyone recommend that's not that expensive, iMac/Mac compatible and will be easy to setup (you just plug it in into it's the headphone jack at the back) that'll do 5.1 on Lion and Snow Leopard (I have both installed for backup OSes and experiments). Thank you in advance.

  • What to look for when purchasing a new heatsink and fan?

I bought a Phenom II 970 and its fantastic, but the stock cooling system seems to be very loud and really not get much done.  I dont like it at all, but before I spend more money on newegg or at my local computer parts store, what should I look for in a new cooler?
I honestly do not even know where to start!  I know I have an AM3 socket, so as Im browsing the heat-sinks on Newegg I saw 6 socket types that all said AM3, Im so confused!
I dont have a specific price range in mind, just know I am looking for a good value.  This is difficult when I have no idea what makes it good or less good.
Sorry for a noobish question yall. Thank you for your time.

Most, if not all the aftermarket coolers come with mounting brackets for most of the current boards.
I have had good results with my Arctic Cooling products. Zalman air coolers are another excellent option, but your budget will determine which one to get.
Do a search on the net and you will stumble upon numerous reviews of the differing coolers. FrostyTech is a good review site. http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2607
Although I gave you a link to the freezer13 pro, on the site you can choose from the tested coolers from the dropdown list at the top of the site.
There will always be a compromise between price, efficiency and noise. I don't know the model you linked, but whatever you consider, do some research first.

The fans are not PWM compliant but a PCI bracket mounted fan speed controller is supplied if you want adjust fan speed.
That is the one thing I always check for. PWM controlled fans.

  • What to look for when purchasing external display

    Hey everyone,
First and foremost I want to say I am a web developer and graphic designer so what I am looking for is a display (not too big) 20" - 23" TV OR Monitor. This way when I am developing I am not making things HUGE so i can see them while other viewers can't. I have seen the display on a 30" screen and no that isn't going ot work.
I am now searching for an external display for my newly built office but I don't know what to look for besides DVI support. What resolution do I need to make sure it goes to? There is just so many options when looking at TVs or Monitors..
    any input?

  • What is the 0x80070570 error when installing Win7 or Win8 or Win 8.1 on a clean SSD/HDD ?!

    Hello,
My computer was working perfectly with Win7 for about 2years until I formatted on monday to clean a little bit my drives ... Since then I'm unable to install windows again. I have the 0x80070570 error.
    The complete error message is:
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure that all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code:0x80070570.
What is the 0x80070570 error when installing Win7 or Win8 or Win 8.1 on a clean SSD/HDD ?! These versions are full from MSDN.
    What I did already:
    check my RAM (16go gskill)
    remove unnecessary hard drives
replace my "old" SSD with a clean new one
    remove my sound cards
remove the mouse and use only keyboard
    reset the BIOS
check every LED on the motherboard (asus sabertooth z77) and there is no problem
    What are the problems?
    Thanks,
    Adrien.

    Hi,
If all images cannot be installed, we have a reason to suspect the hardware cause.
If you use two memory slots to get 16G RAM, I suggest you test with just one (8G) to check the result.

  • What are my options for adding an additional single app...

Okay, hopefully this will make sense:
I have the Student & Teacher CC subscription.  I'd like to use Illustrator CS6 on an additional computer.  What are my options?  (Obviously, the most cost-effective option is what I'm looking for!)
    Jon

Jon you can purchase a single subscription or full Creative Cloud subscription but I would recommend subscribing under a separate account.  This is to help ensure that your subscription are handled properly and you receive proper activation credit for the subscriptions which you have purchased.
You other option is to look into Creative Cloud for Teams but it does not appear that you are looking for enough licenses to justify a team subscription.  You can find more information however at http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/teams.html

  • Anyone know if there is a video for installing additional ram in an early 80's intel Imac?

I bought some ram for my early 80s Imac. Looking for an install video to help me to put it in.

I did mean 2008. Thanks for the link.  Got a crucial 2 channel kit thinking I would add them to the original 1 gig in the computer but the videos show people taking out the original, making the 3 gig I wanted (so I can install Yosemite) only 2 gig  which I don't know if will work because some of it will be used up. I want to try to install but am afraid if I do and its not enough, they won't take it back.  Oh, in case anyone wondering .... I have no experience at doing stuff to computers at all ... none.  Its frustrating. I can build houses, cabinets, anything about and this Imac scares me to death, lol. And I bought Crucial memory because guy at Apple store said very good and cheaper.  Thank you

  • Apple TV won't download movies anymore.  it says to go to store and check Purchase history, but everything seems to be in order.  Any idea what I am looking for to fix the problem and download movies again?

My apple TV will no longer download movies.  It says to go to the Apple Store and check purchase history.  Everything seems to be in order.  Any idea what I am looking for?

Okay - let's cut to the chase...
If the Menu Bar (File, Edit... Help) shown in my screenshot below is not visible, use CTRL+B to display it. Then click on Help/Check for Updates. If one is available, you will be able to select it at this time.
Note the item at the bottom of the list; About iTunes. Selecting that will show you which version of iTunes you are using.
An alternative method to display the Menu Bar is click on the box in the top left of your iTunes window...

  • I was upset that I was having trouble with the mail on the Mac Book Pro.  I threw away the app for this.  Is there any place to get it back the computer.   I have looked for my install disks to no avail.  Is there anywhere I can download it back to my com

I threw the program away.  I need to have it on my computer.  Is there anywhere I can find the download for mail for mac.   I have looked for the install disks to no avail..  Can anyone help me?

There is nowhere that you can download it from.  You need your Mac OS X install disk.  If you can't find it, you'll need to replace it.  Then you can install Mail from that disk.

I was able to view gallery before the move.  What am I looking for now to post and view photos?

iCloud provides a very basic photo gallery in Photo Journal, though it is populated only from iPhoto for iOS, not from a Mac. Otherwise you will need to find a third-party solution - this page examines some options:
