What do I need to come up to date?

Hi everyone - I've just joined this morning, and this is my first post.
I bought my Quicksilver G4 machine in 2003, and have been using Final Cut Pro 2 ever since, with OS9.
I recently replaced the old Pioneer DVD writer with a new one, as the old one couldn't deal with the new high-speed discs. That works absolutely fine.
I've now installed (from scratch - formatting the discs) Tiger 10.4.6.
I have to still use OS9 for Final Cut Pro 2. If I buy the latest upgrade (number 6, I believe), will that operate under Tiger, and can I then wipe OS9 from my system, and use OSX for everything?
My question may sound naive, but although I've had my Apple for five years, I've only ever used it for video editing. For everything else I prefer a PC.
I'd be grateful for any comments.

I have a Quicksilver 2002 G4 1 gig dualie with 2 boot drives and it works very well. 1 boot drive fires up os 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5, the other boot drive run os 10.4.10 and FCP 5.1.4 and the rest of the Final Cut Studio very well. I also have the baddest video card for that model computer which is the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition w/256 megs of Vram made specifically for G4/G5 computers with the 2x/4x AGP slot, which your G4 will have.
While I waited for my Mac Pro, as an experiment, I loaded a fresh harddrive with Tiger 10.4.10 and Final Cut Studio 2.
Listen to Mr. Scotland, I can tell you first hand that the latest Final Cut product would not run on my 2002 G4, period.
However, if you want to keep you G4, you can load 4 harddrives into the thing, you just need an ATA or SATA (I have the latter) pci controller for 2 harddrives. Build yourself a new boot drive with Tiger and search eBay for FCP 5.1.4. That combo works very slick in the G4, stay away from Quicktime 7.2, however.
If you feel you need Final Cut Studio 2, don't waste your time with your G4 or a G5, you need a Mac Pro.

They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:

If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.

Apple TV doesn't come with HDMI cable, so you would have had to buy the cable separately unless the Apple TV was bought used. Did you purchase the device from Apple or an authorized reseller?
Are you sure you're trying the right input?
The other is a smaller one that is for micro USB (which is used for support purposes only)

- See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.. It bypasses the passcode (and erases the iPod)

Use the camera's SD card instead.
Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Upgrading RAM and your HD will give you some performance gains, but depending on what you are doing, it may not be enough. Your best friend will always be processor speed. This has a direct relation to how many cores and the speed of the RAM.
However, if you are unable to spring for a new computer, then the options of running more RAM and a biggger, faster HD should ruduce some bottle necks.

Since the applications were purchased on the older account, you will need to log into that account to update them. The newer account will not recognize the purchases because they are not a part of the purchase history for the specific account.
