What do I need to connect mixer into MacBook Pro 15"?

Hi all -
I just finished a presentation I was doing for 250 people who work for me.
225 were in the large ball room and 25+ were participating via WebEx using VoIP for audio.
I told the A/V company at the hotel that I wanted to take an output from the mixer (where all mics AND computer sound was going into) and put it into my "line in" jack on my MacBook Pro.
This (I thought) would allow me to take everything being heard in the ballroom (microphones AND audio from my laptop) and pump it directly into my line-in and thus over my WebEx that would carry the audio via VoIP.
Well we didn't get very far because during set up I opened up System Preference and selected Sound, Input to test the Input Level... nothing. They tried a bunch of things and then finally came back to me and said I really needed a pre-amp mixer or something to "power" the signal into my line-in.
Does this make sense? I did a bunch of searches and found a lot of people talking about USB audio interfaces... is that what I need to hook my Macbook Pro up to a mixer in the room?
I want to ensure this doesn't happen again and am willing to pay for it. Any recommendations on portable devices that will help me accomplish this?

They could mean something like this small ($25) pre-amp I use one to raise the signal in from a vinyl deck and it would work just as well for other low level analogue signals I think.

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.
Thank everybody, especialy Zyriab, ne was the closest.
    High regards to everybody

  • What adapter do I need to connect my 2009 Macbook Pro to my 2007 iMac?

What adapter do I need to connect my 2009 Macbook Pro to my 2007 iMac? I get really confused with all of the different cables out there an I want to make sure I get the correct one.
    Macbook Pro Model is: Late 2009, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
iMac Model: Late 2007, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
    Thanks!

The 2007 iMac does not support cabled input. see > Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Like Niel suggest's, your only option is to use a network based connection like > ScreenRecycler

what cables do I need to connect my 2013 macbook pro to my HD tv? I know I need mini display to HDMI, but male? female HDMI??? and also, do I need a separate cable for sound?

Actually you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. It will carry both audio and video.
This one will work: Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support

  • Can some one please tell me what leads i need to connect my mac book pro to my tv

Hi i have a mac book pro can someone tell me what leads i need to connect it to my tv
    thanks scott

If your TV has HDMI, and if your MBP is compatible with this adapter, I highly recommend:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er
It sends the audio out through the mini DisplayPort into the HDMI cable, but only if your computer has that capability.  On that page, scroll down and look for a comment titled "How you know if it is supported w/o guessing."

  • What cables are required to connect Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to my TV?

    Hi,
I've seen a number of forum posts stating that there are mixed issues with different models of MacBook Pro's and connecting to your television. I have a mid 2010 model, 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, purchased in August of that year.
I have an Apple TV hooked up, which is fab for my iTunes music, pics and movies, however I'd like to get the SkyGo/Anytime+ working but can only do so by buying an X-Box or a cable - You've guessed it, the cable wins!
Would someone please be able to point me in the right direction? Some of the info I have found is quite conflicting.
    Many thanks in advance.

Assuming your TV has HDMI inputs, you will need a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter that supports audio, and a standard HDMI cable of the appropriate length. Your MacBook Pro outputs an audio signal through its Mini-Displayport, unlike earlier models. Once you make the physical connection, you'll have to select the proper HDMI port as the input in the TV's menu system, and select the TV (or perhaps "HDMI") as the output device in the Output tab of the Sound pane in System Preferences on the Mac.
Conflicting information most often gets posted here when responders are guessing about the equipment being used. You've done a good job of identifying your MBP model, so answering your question with assurance is easy.

  • What do I need to do if my macbook pro is extremely slow?

I got my macbook pro this past july and for the past week it has been acting extremely slow and I'm not sure what to do. I asked one of my friends with a mac what I should do and she said that I needed to delete my browser history, delete my cookies, and empty my trash can. Well after I did all that it's still being extremely slow and I dont know what to do. I'm supposed to be acceting a call from apple support tonight around 10 but I was wondering if there was anything else that I could do. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the delay. The SUID file thing is something that shows up in
Permissions Repairs you can safely ignore. No need to worry.
Have you tried anything in ds stores tip 2 posts above?
Can you tell us how much RAM  (Memory) you have? It's listed by clicking on the  in your title  bar....go to About This Mac and it's in the 1st window.
We would also like to know what size hard drive you have and how much free space is on it.
If you click on your Hard drive icon (should be upper right hand corner of your screen), or the Finder in your Dock...when the window opens it says at the bottom how much Free Space you have on your drive.
If you go to the , click on About This Mac, click on More Info... in that window. The next window says how big your hard drive is under Hardware....click on Serial-ATA.....look under Capacity:
We need to know this cause if a hard drive is too full it slows things down and creates operational difficulties.

  • What do I need to connect my white macbook to my TV and get audio?

    I have Macbook 6,1. Upgraded with a OS X Lion 10.7.2.
I have bought the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable with aduio support. I have been successful in hooking it up, to allow the display to work but I can not seem to get audio. I have found through research, that this might be because my macbook is too old, and does not have the correct hardware to send audio through this cable......is there a secondary cable that I can get to connect my audio?

If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

What is the best antivirus software for a Macbook Pro...I recently received a message from Google that someone made an attempt to hack into my mail account and I needed to change my PW and verify myself as the user.  The message suggested that I run a virus scan to check for sny malware or other types of viruses.  I do not have any software for this and up until now have not had a problem....any help is appreciated.  I would like a simple but effective solution!

It's worth noting that if your Gmail has been hacked, it would likely have nothing to do with your MacBook.  Hacking web based email is fairly common and it doesn't require any access to your machine whatsoever.  In the same way that you can simply go to the Gmail webpage through any browser, any hacker can use the same method.  It doesn't mean your machine has been compromised in any way (and it has likely not been).  I have never received an email from Google of this nature.  I have received notifications when someone has attempted to create an account with my name in which they basically say that there is no action required if you're the rightful owner.
