First off what do you mean by "factory unlocked"?
Second, you need to use the microSIM removal tool, open the microSIM slot and put the new one in. Your kit from Straight Talk will give you more information.

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.

Didn't work in what way. Are you unable to start it up? Does it start but then freezes? Does the screen stay black when you turn it on?

If you do NOT need to keep working right NOW, wait until summer and the new Final Cut Pro X release. No real idea about it other than the interface will likely be significantly changed along with the unerlying video engine.
If you do need to be productive today, order the FCS 2009 (aka Final Cut Studio 3) Suite. Unless your FCP4.5 is the Academic Version, you'll be able to upgrade for $299 (US pricing. Unsure of the cost in the rest of the world.

Since the EU does not use CDMA technology, your Verizon iPad won't connect to any cellular systems anyway, but it does not hurt to turn cellular data off to preserve battery life.
Note that if you use Airplane mode that will turn cellular off too, but it also disables GPS (which you may need if you have a navigation app with pre-loaded map and POI data -- highly recommended if you don't know your way around).
