What do I need to hook up to a wireless network?

I have a mac mini running 10.5.7 and I currently am running using a Dynex wireless G router.... I am trying to hook up an iBook from 1999 to my wireless router so it can surf the internet what will I need? My router says system requirements of system 10.4 will I have to upgrade the iBook? (It has 10.3) What device will I have to buy?

You need the original AirPort card or an external USB or Ethernet adapter which supports any of the 802.11 protocols.

27 inch iMac to a 29 inch Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM monitor. What do I need to hook these two up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That monitor has got a lot of ports you can use. The easiest and cheapest way to connect the iMac to the Dell monitor is through a Mini DisplayPort cable, because you do not need any adapter.
Another way you have is to connect it through HDMI. In this case, you need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable

  • Hi there, I'm thinking of buying both a new MacBook Pro and a small 22 inch LED tv for my kitchen... what would I need to be able to use (wireless of course) the tv as a monitor for the new computer? Apple tv? Airport Express? something else? Thanks.

    Hi a,
    http://www.mctiviausa.com/
There has been "talk" on and off of Apple TV doing it (and people have done it with a hack), but I haven't really followed it.
It would be a whole lot cheaper getting an adapter (as needed) and cable and simply pluggin it in when you're in the kitchen.

  • What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?

I have a Time Capsule as my main base station and an Airport Express I'd like to use on another floor of my home for an internet connection for my Blu-ray player and to stream music via Airtunes. If I connect the Express to the Blu-ray using Ethernet and to my speakers with an audio cable, should I set up the Express to Extend or Join my network? What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?

    Extend.
What's the difference between "Extend" or "Join" a wireless network?
When you configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network" it will perform like any other wireless client (laptop, printer, etc.) that connects to that wireless network. It will NOT perform as a router nor extend the wireless range of (in this case) the Time Capsule (TC).
However, if you configure the AX to "extend a wireless network" it will perform as an additional wireless access point to your TC's wireless network, effectively extending the TC's wireless range. In addition, the AX's Ethernet port will also be enabled and you can connect a single Ethernet client or multiple ones if you connect an Ethernet switch instead.

  • What do i need to hook up 2 dvi monitors to a mac mini

what cable do i need to hook up a second dvi monitors to a mac mini

    XLR8off wrote:
I think I figured it out... use the HDMI to DVI (supplied) and get a Mini Display to DVI cable for the second monitor...?
You are correct. Get the Mini Displayport to DVI adapter, in addition to using the supplied HDMI to DVI adapter.
Mini Displayport is physically identical to the Thunderbolt, and a video signal (for one monitor) can be passed through the Thunderbolt port.
Also note the max. resolutions under "video support" on Mini's tech specs:
Thunderbolt port with support for up to 2560-by-1600 resolution
HDMI port with support for up to 1920-by-1200 resolution
That may determine which of your monitors you hook up to which port. Also don't go nuts with monitors, the mini might not be able to drive them to their max resolutions.

  • What do I need to hook up second monitor?

    Hi,
I have a LCD monitor that has an hdmi and dvi slots. What do I need to connect my mac book pro (late) to this second monitor?

You need this component, or a dual-link DVI adaptor if the monitor's largest resolution exceeds 1920 by 1200.

  • What do I need to get on the Internet wirelessly on imac g4

    Airport card
    Or
    USB wireless thing
    If so what type?

    Do you really have?
    iMac, Mac OS X (10.0.x)
Here is how to find out what version of Mac OS you are running:
Click on the blue apple in the upper left hand of the screen.
    click on this icon
Click on the first line, "About This Mac"
Most of these are numbers & that's what we want.
What version & Processor do you have?
If you have 10.0, the only thing that will work are the ethernet bridges. Examples.
    Ethernet Bridge
Please note this requires mac os x 10.5 or greater to configure or windows xp to configure.
Ethernet Bridge  "The versatile Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge can make any wired Ethernet-equipped device a part of your wireless network."  from linksys example: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-RE1000-Wireless-N-Range-Extender/dp/B005FDXMJS/ref =sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314563758&sr=8-1
Once configured, you can use it on any ethernet port.
Airport ExpressAirport Express is an external unit and you can configure it as a bridge.  802.11n ( I believe you will need a more modern version of Mac OS X to configure.  Sadly, Apple uses a configuration program to configure, not a web browser. )

  • Need help adding 2nd AExpress to wireless network

hey peeps, i'm adding my second AE to my system, which contains a Macbook, a wireless DSL modem and another AExpress which is wireless and is connected to a stereo. I am having trouble connecting the 2nd AE to the system. Everytime i try to configure it it asks me if i want to switch networks, which i don't want to do. When i do that i lose my connection. I need to tie the new AE in to my current system.

Ok, let's double-check the 2nd AX's configuration to join the wireless network provided by the 2wire.
Temporarily connect AX to your Mac Pro using an Ethernet cable, and then, using the AirPort Utility check the following:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing 2wire's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Need help connecting to my home Wireless Network

I need help connecting my LaserJer M1212nf MFP to my home wirless network. I would like to use Apple's AirPrint, and be able to print from my iPad.
I've spent a few hours following the directions I found on the manuals through hp.com and I've had no luck. I've already unistalled and reinstalled the printer. I've also updated the firmware. If anyone can provide assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

This is NOT a wireless printer (see product spec: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf), you can NOT add the printer to the wireless network. This printer do support LAN connection, so if your wireless router has LAN ports, you can added it to your home network by connecting a network cable from the printer to a LAN port on the router. You need then reinstall the printer as a network printer, to use airprint.

  • What do I need to hook up an external DVI monitor to Thunderbolt?

I want to hook up an external DVI monitor to my new iMac.
    It has a thunderbolt connection.
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Mini-DisplayPort-Adapter-MB570Z/dp/B001IF5YLQ/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309558497&sr=8-1
Is the above link what I would be looking for? I notice this is for "Mini DisplayPort" and not Thunderbolt?
    Just a little confused Thanks.

You are quite correct.  That's the device you need.  Take a look at your plug and the plug in Amazon's picture for a final check.  If that looks good, click "buy"!
    ThunderBolt supports "mini display port".
Since adapters have been around for a while, they typically don't say anything about ThunderBolt - it's too new.  They talk about "mini display port" only.

  • What do I need to hook up XBox w/Kinect, PS3 and Wii Gaming Consoles

    Hello all,
I have a Flat screen TV purchased about 3 years back.  It has 1 HDMI port and it has I believe two sets of the red/white/yellow ports (a set on the left and a set on the right).  I want to connect the following:
    1 – Xbox with Kinect
    1 – PS3
    1 – Wii
    I know I need 1 HDMI cable
We have Comcast wireless internet and the modem/router is in a neighboring bedroom.
What else do I need to purchase in order to hook up all units?
Thanks for your time and assistance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can buy a HDMI switcher with a remote. It will require 3 HDMI cables but you can switch from the Xbox or PS3 with the remote.
The red/white/yellow ports doesn't put out HD resolution so you can use the Wii for that.
So you can get a HDMI switcher or plug HDMI to either Xbox or PS3 and the two remaining will be connected by the red/white/yellow ports.
I believe the new Xbox, most PS3, and the Wii have built-in WiFi adapter already.

  • What would I need to hook up laptop to tv ?

I have the dv6000 and would like to watch movies from laptop to tv
Can someone tell me what I need to buy to do this ?
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Guessing that your laptop and tv both have HDMI connector - get an HDMI cable - that should work.
Otherwise, you would need Svideo and audio cables.

  • What do I need to hook up to RCA Audio-out?

Hi, I'm trying to connect the school's iBook to an RCA cable so we can have sound for our assemblies without having to hold a mic to the iBook's speakers. What would people advise I use?

You can use a 2.5mm (1/8") stereo to RCA cable. Radio Shack or a similar electronic store should have one.
