What do I need to make my iMac + xbox 360 hook up to my current router
I need to find a way to make my iMac wireless and don't know what would be best for my set up. I have cable broadband through a rca router, which then hooks up to my vonage phone device, which then connects to my linksys WRT150N which has an emachines pc through ethernet and a sony laptop wireless connected to it. I want the iMac, which is downstairs to be hooked up to the internet wirelessly if possible and my son also has a wireless adapter for his XBOX 360 that he wants to use as well. I know this sounds tres' complicated and I have given lots of information here but if anyone knows what I should get for this situation, I would be most appreciative! Airport of some sort? Third party stuff that's compatible? I am so confused!

Achieving data rates of 54 Mbps requires that all users have an AirPort Extreme Card and connect to an AirPort Extreme Base Station. If a user of a Wi-Fi Certified 802.11b product joins the network, that user will get up to 11 Mbps and AirPort Extreme users will get less than 54 Mbps. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network and other factors.
imac specification I am guessing your imac g4 is usb 2 and requires an airport extreme wireless card.
The xbox360 wireless adaptor should be able to connect to your router.
To enable the imac to stream photos, movies, music to xbox360 you'll need a piece of software called Connect360. you get that here: http://www.nullriver.com/products/connect360
I'll give you my network setup if yours fails.
Two Apple Extreme N routers, First router hardwired to cable modem and the "bridged" second apple router. The first router also has a HP laserjet 24/7 connected to its usb port and one more hardwire to a pc laptor downstairs(no wireless card in the piece of crap windows machine). Second router hard waired to Vonage and an Apple Express router which I set up to create its own network. The xbox360 upstairs wirelessly connects to the Apple Express. I also have apple TV wireless to first apple Extreme router. Everything works fine and network is extremely fast.

Another option, if your eMac has USB 2.0 is a USB plug in WiFi adapter.
This will have software that's needed for this device to be recognized and work, also.
It maybe software on CD or a download from a website.
Do a search for USB WiFi adapters Mac OS X.
On another note:
Can't believe we still can't edit posts on iOS mobile devices, like the iPad.
It's a pain to have to go back to my Mac if I make a major editing issue.
I wish they would fix this issue, already.

You have to call Apple to get 10.6 first somehow, as they removed it from the online store. -

Burn to a red laser dye DVD5 disk. You can get about 40 minutes of DVCProHD on each one.

Airport G5 iMac Xbox 360 wirless problem *Please Help*
Hi - I was hoping that somebody might be able to give me a few hints about how to get Xbox 360live to work on a wireless network with my G5 imac.
I want the Xbox running downstairs with the iMac upstairs. I have tested it wired and it works fine. But wireless I cannot get a connection.
Here is what I have:
Sky Broadband connection. I have a Sky wireless router. I have enabled airport on my iMac and have put the relevant info into the Internet Connect window. It indicates a strong signal. I have bought an Wireless Adapter for the Xbox 360 and attached it but it does not seem to pick up a signal when I run the test.
I moved the Xbox to the same room as the iMac to see if distance was the issue but again no connection was detected. This is when I wired it directly to the router to see if it worked this way and it does.
I really need wireless though so please if anybody has cracked this problem let me know.

MartinSince your iMac is able to get a good wireless signal, you know the 2Wire wireless router is working properly. On the other hand, the XBox wireless adapter under the same conditions sees absolutely no signal. My conclusion from this would be that either (a) the XBox wireless adapter is not functional, or (b) you are making some fundamental error in setup of the adapter.
Since this is a wireless networking problem between two non-Apple products, you might see if product support for your XBox wireless adapter can provide further assistance. -
I have been reading about connecting an xbox 360 to the imac via the elgato Eyetv. However it seems as though the eyetv would cause the 360 to lag because of USB. Would the EyeTV 410 still lag even though its connected via firewire? And would there be any way at all to reduce the lag?

That.....is the problem.
Right now, you are getting Double NAT because the modem is providing NAT firewall and the AirPort is providing NAT firewall. That equals Double NAT also known as Strict NAT.
Contact Time Warner support to get the default IP address for the modem so that you can get into the settings and turn off the firewall in the modem. It needs to be set to pure bridge mode. A decent phone tech will know how to do this.
If you have other modem options, you won't have this problem with a Netgear CMD31T....also on the list of TWC recommended modems. -

my 2001 imac has no internal airport. can't find an original card one as apple no long makes them. found one on ebay but it says i need an adaptor. can this be done and how hard is it to find everyting and install it? can I do it myself or do I need to pay a technician? What do I need to make a bootable external disk?
I got a response from Apple support that said I could make an external disk a bootable one, like a flash drive or ext hard disk, by using an OS X Installer app that was supposed to be available at the Mac App Store. I looked and couldn't find it. Since we no longer get a hard-copy of the system install disk, I was trying to figure out what to do to make a 500Gb external disk one I could boot using the MacBook Air with its limited GB storage.
So if anyone can give me the simple solution I'd appreciate it.Get an external disk drive. Start by partitioning and formatting it:
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Next, clone your existing system disk to the external one:
Clone Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
button.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Test the new clone by:
Boot Using OPTION key:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
4. Select the external disk's icon.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon. -
What do I need to make 32bit games play on x86-64 with intel gm965?
I have been trying to get a bunch of 32bit games to play on x86-64 with no luck.
Ive tried quake4, prey, and now doom3 and all seem to have the same issues. They start to work and the screen goes black, then it just goes right back to the desktop.
I have installed the entire lib32 group, and still no luck. I even tried install lib32-intel-dri from aur but still no luck.
Do I still use lib32-nvidia-utils with an intel chipset, because thats what gets installed by default when i install the lib32 group?

Within your chroot you'd need to have the intel drivers installed in a version exactly matching your main system's. It takes a bit more HD space (less than 1 GB), but you get a much easier system since you're using the packages maintained in the repos by devs/TUs instead of lib32 packages maintained (primarily) by volunteers for their own specific system. -

You cannot run Mac OS X on a Windows machine. You need a Mac to run Mac OS.

Most anti-virus solutions can slow down your Mac, but to be honest, the best anit-virus is you, the user and your brain.
Don't visit questionable websites or website you are unsure about.
Don't install pirated software or software downloaded from questionable or unknown websites or sources.
Java is a vulnerability right now, if you do not need it, don't use it.
Use a browser filter and pop-up blocker
Don't open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize.
Install security updates when they become available
Educate yourself as to what threats are common and active.
In effect, use your brain as an antivirus filter.
Follw that advise and in MOST cases, you will be fine and won't feel the need to have to install antivirus software. -

It came with Kaspersky Internet Security. I've gotten a message that it expired and I need to renew it. I purchased a year's worth of security from the Parallels site on 1/15/11 so thought I was covered.
Do I need to purchase security for an IMac for the microsoft environment - specifically Parallels?
