What Do I Need to Purchase to Upgrade my iMac 7,1 to Play Assassin's Creed?

I own an iMac 7,1 (Intel Core 2 Duo). The processor speed is 2 GHz with 1 GB memory. I recently purchased Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed. Although I'm able to complete the tutorial using Windows XP, the game crashes about 15-20 minutes later. Ubisoft indicates that the system requirements include:
1. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended.
2. RAM: 1 GB Windows XP/2 GB Windows Vista
3. Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0-compliant video card or DirectX 9.0-compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher.
Is there a way to upgrade my computer's processor speed from 2 GHz to 2.2 GHz? Also, would installing more memory make sense?

Useful things to know.
1. This is not considered an upgrade. It's a separate product, and runs separately. You can have both installed (though it's often better not to). This is important because some people buy Acrobat, then run Reader, and wonder why it hasn't changed.
2. You must not purchase an upgrade. When you purchase an upgrade you have already own a version of (paid for) Acrobat. You have to say what version you already own, and this will be checked; you cannot use your purchase of an upgrade version if you don't own an older version.

  • What do I need to purchase to upgrade to iWeb 3.0

It would appear that the only way of upgrading my 2.0 version of iWeb to 3.0 is to purchase iLife '11.  But every time I go to iStore all I see is iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand.  I have all 3 on my Mac and already have iPhoto '11.  So what am supposed to buy???

iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

    Not complicated at all.
Just purchase the Mountain Lion upgrade like everyone else in the entire world.

Because you are so far back, you may need to purchase Snow Leopard first and then purchase Mountain Lion.

Giving just the basics, first you need to confirm that your iMac will run 10.6. See:

Then you need to confirm that your applications and peripherals will run under 10.6 or that they can be upgraded to do so.

Upgrading to OS X 10.7 FAQ
Backup your user files and folders manually (drag and drop) from all partitions/OS's installed to a external powered drive and disconnect this drive, before proceeding in addition to TimeMachine, Bootable Clones etc.
You need to make sure you're running the latest version of Snow Leopard10.6.8
Click the "Apple" symbol in the top left corner of your screen and select "About This Mac."
Make sure you're running version 10.6.8.
If not, click "Software Update" from the same Apple menu and update your system.
Then when that's finished launch the MacAppStore from the same menu.
You'll see the giant Lion banner across the top. Click on it.
This brings you to the app page for Lion. It costs $29.99 -- click the price, then click "Buy App."

We users can't speak for Apple about your free Lion status or problems downloading, reissuing a download.
It's possible Apple could be spacing out the downloads as not to knock theservers offline. So be patient.

    Mission critical
If your using Mac's in a mission critical type environment or have third party hardware or software you must rely upon working correctly. It's advised to wait until all the bugs, driver updates, third party software and other issues are resolved before upgrading. This might take several months. Then if you do so, do one machine at a time andcarefully test everything before full deployment.

As I understand the as yet unconfirmed rumor by me, is that once you pay for a single copy of Lion, every computer you have that's authorized under your Apple ID can download it, no limit on number.

After installing Yosemite iWork09 no longer works.  Do I need to purchase an upgrade?

All of the iWork 09 apps work for me with Yosemite.  Try the following:
1 - delete all files with iWork in the file name from your User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete all files with iWork in the file name from your User/Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder.
3 - delete all items (files or folders) with iWork in the name from your User/Home/Library/Caches folder.
4 - reboot and try the iWork apps again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. This will also work for Mavericks and Yosemite.
For  Mavericks and Yosemite  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

Hi, deployed to Europe and trying to set up my Apple TV to a JVC Model LT-32EX18, help, it has a 2 port HDMI input, what do I need to purchase in order to set up? TIA

Apple TV doesn't come with HDMI cable, so you would have had to buy the cable separately unless the Apple TV was bought used. Did you purchase the device from Apple or an authorized reseller?
Are you sure you're trying the right input?
The other is a smaller one that is for micro USB (which is used for support purposes only)

The Sony RX100 III was first supported in Lightroom 5.5.
There will be no updates for older versions.

  • I have OS X what do I need to do to upgrade to snow leopard or newer?

What do I need to do to upgrade to the most current OS from OS X 10.5.08?

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order 10.9 Mavericks which is a download only.
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
10.9 Mavericks is available in the App Store for free.
You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.9 Mavericks or without going through 10.7 Lion or10.8 Mountain Lion as long as you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1.
10.9 Mavericks will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also 10.9 Mavericks doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under10.9 Mavericks.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

I have Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 what do I need to do to upgrade to the latest version of software??

Depends what MacBook version you have.
Go to  > About This Mac > More Info > hardware overview (should open at that usually).
Check the model identifier (MacBook4.1 or similar)
    Check Processer Name
    Processer speed
    Memory
    Specs for Snow Leopard (10.6.x)
    And for Lion (10.7.x);
Note that the memory quoted in those specs is absolute minimum for each OS - 106 really needs at least 2GB and Lion 4GB
