What do I need to set up a recording studio?

I am looking at purchasing Logic Pro 8 and installing it on the computer in the sound booth at my church. I basically would want to take the sound board channels and feed it into Logic so each of the instruments are in separate channels in Logic. I know it is not that simple, so does anyone know the steps in between those two? What do I need to go from the soundboard to the computer? Thanks for the input!

Hi,
"What do I need to go from the soundboard to the computer?"
You need a sound card which has at least the number of planned outputs that you will want to record.
Say your soundboard (mixer) has 8 buss outputs, and that is what you are going to use to record with, then you would need a soundcard with at least 8 analogue inputs.
There are MANY brands to choose from, to fit almost any budget. Just stay away from M-Audio, they are not any good, IMHO.
As far as steps to recording your audio, well, you might benefit from buying a book on recording audio, it will be simpler to have one on hand when you're actually testing your equipemnt.
Cheers

I want to use my Mac desktop as a portal for viewing my cable television via some kind of cord. Is this possible and what do I need to set this up?

It can be done with analog but not digital thanks to "good 'ol" HDCP copy protection which apple (and most other manufacturers) unfortunately respect.
So you can take the analog output from your cable box (component -- 5 cables -- if it has it but generally they all have composite -- 3 cables) and feed it into some kind of converter or into some appropriate pci card for your mac pro.  But none of them are going to let you directly use the HDMI output from the box to your computer.
Bottom line, no single cord is going to work and it will never be the higher quality digital picture you get on your tv.
Some qualification:  There are boxes that I think support hdmi input.  Look at Blackmagic.  But I still don't think you can get around the HDCP from the cable box (might depend on the kind of cable box).

  • New to RDS - What do I need to set up for 3 users on 2008R2?

I need to set up an existing 2008R2 server with the RDS role so that 3 users can remote into the server and use Office applications. I've been on the phone with MSFT for 45 minutes and I think I get it, but I wanted to get a second opinion, and possible
    rant....
As I understand it, I need 3 licenses for Office 2013 ProPlus in this situation.
I install Office 2013 on the server with the RDS role using the Office installer.
    I register/license each User account
that will be logging in to the server (3 of them) as legitimate to use the Office 2013 installed on the server.
I do not *need* to install Office 2013 on the workstations of the three User's, but I may and not run afoul of the licensing terms.
Assuming all of that is true (and I doubt it is), I have the following questions:
Do I have to use 'volume licensing' for this, or can I just buy 3 retail copies of ProPlus?
Do I *have* to use ProPlus? I do need Outlook.
Can I use Office 365 ProPlus, and is it cheaper (up front) than the one-time perpetual license? Small Business Premium (see previous Question)?
Does the server need it's own license, meaning I need 4? If not, is there a special way I need to install Office on the server so it doesn't ask for a license?
Could a non-registered user (like a server Admin) use the Office installed on the server?
How many licenses are built into RDS? I recall hearing 2, to be used for admin purposes. So I would need to buy 3 CAL for the three Users intended in this setup?
What other questions should I have asked?!
I can't believe it's so complicated. And expensive! A quick perusal suggest a single ProPlus license is about $500! I'm sure once I have had time to digest it things will be fine, but up front, this system is really a pain in the rear.
Anyway, thanks to those brave enough to attempt to untangle this for me!

For the O365-on-RDS aspect, bad news, it's not a valid installation scenario.
You would need a Volume License edition of Office2013 to install upon RDS, because O365 only offers the Click-to-Run installable, and that can't be installed upon RDS:

  • Why set Xss and under what condition we need to set XSS

    Hi guys,
In most of my java app, I will just set Xmx and Xmx. I would like to find out under what condition we need to specifically set Xss? Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,

When you need a lot of stack. Or when you don't want a lot of stack to save memory.
Like, if you were doing naive recursion or just had so many frameworks inter operating that the stack would become too small.

  • What do I need to set in order for each instance of the step type in the sequence to act individually?

I'm not able to change parameters on one step without it changing the parameters on another instance of the step within the same sequence.  Is there something in the step type properties that I need to set to change this?
For instance, I have created a custom step called "Battery PWR" that the user can insert into a sequence, hit the "edit" button, set a control in a GUI to 12V and hit an "Okay" button so that the post-step condition causes the power supply voltage to change.  Then, later in the sequence I want the user to be able to insert the same custom step, hit the edit button, set the control to 0V and hit an "Okay" button so that the post-step conditition causes the power supply to go to 0V.  The problem is, when the user edits one of the steps, it causes the other step to change to the same value.
I know that this has a simple fix, just can't seem to find it.

I answered my own question.  I was reading and writing to a file global instead of the step parameters, so I was basically overwriting my variables each time I edited the step.  I'm obviously a novice TestStand user.

  • HT4587 Hi, I want to set up a sound system in a new house using apple equipment. I have few sets of Bose speakers that I would like to utilise, my question is - what do I need to set it up and how do I do it with regards to  AirPlay? Thanks

Hi, new to the forums and apple tbh.
Moving into a new house and want to set up a sound system, thought apple would be the way to go as I have iPads, iPhones, iPod touch and nanos. I also have a few sets of Bose speakers which I would like to incorporate. What I am wondering is, what else do I need to buy to do this? Do I need seperate devices to attach to each speaker? Do I need a new router? And how would I configure it?
Ideally I would like 4 rooms each with their own speakers that could play simultaneously.
    Thanks in advance!!!!

First, please check out the following Apple Support article for details on setting up an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) for iTunes streaming. Note: You will need a separate AX for each set of speakers that you want to stream to. Also, note that you can stream a single audio file to one or more speakers, but you cannot stream separate audio files to different speakers simultaneously.
Second, the Bose speakers you mentioned would need to have an audio input jack, either analog or optical digital to receive the stream from the AX. As you know, Bose makes a number of different speaker/home theatre audio options. If your specific model of speakers do, then it's just a matter to use the appropriate audio cable between the audio port of the AX and the speakers.

  • What do I need to set up a Marantz SR-7007 for AirPlay?

Hi folks, I just bought a Marantz SR-7007, and I'd like to set it up for AirPlay use. Does anyone know how to? I am unfortunately quite clueless. I know I need to plug in a wireless device to the Marantz, via Ethernet. That I get. Do I need a router, or an access point? What else do I need?
    Thanks!

First off, nice AV receiver BTW.
I don't have this particular model, but I downloaded and familiarized myself with the user guide for yours. Your Marantz does not have built-in wireless capability, but it does for wired networking.
If your goal is to have it connect to the Internet by a wireless connection, then you have a few options to explore: 1) Although the SR-7007 has a USB port, I don't believe that it would support connecting a USB wireless adapter to. You may want to check with Marantz support to verify this, 2) Use an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) as a wireless Ethernet bridge. This option would require a second wireless router to provide a wireless network, and 3) Connect the Marantz directly to an existing router by Ethernet

  • What do I need to set up a mac home network - complete Apple newbie

Okay. I've been using iPods and my iPhone for years, and I'm thinking about going full Mac. I plan to get a refurbished Macbook Pro from Amazon (haven't decided which one.) I currently have a Westell combo modem/router and am considering getting a wireless-capable external hard drive to hold more files. Ideally, then, my iTunes content would be available on any iDevice I may own. Can all these items connect or do i need more Apple-specific hardware?

I've seen, but never used, a combination modem/router - I've only ever used Cisco/Lynksys and Airport Extremes with separate 'stand-alone' cable/DSL modems. So I'm not sure that your setup will do what you're trying to do.
If you had an Airport Extreme, or another router with a USB plug, you could likely attach a drive to your router that could be shared by all users. Does your modem/router have a USB port?

  • What do I need to set up a WiFi in my home

I am totally new to all this. I want to use WiFi to connect a lap top, desktop and wireless printer. Will a hot spot in a cell phone accomplish this. Also, we camp a lot. Will the hot spot in my cell phone allow this. I don't have anything yet. What equipment, accessories or other items will I need. I currently have an older desk top computer, satellite internet and just a basic old cell phone. We are seriously going to purchase what we need, just need to know what that is and how to basics. Thanks for your help

We plan to purchase a smart phone, lap top and wireless printer,  don't have any of these yet. Still looking and getting all my research done first so I know what I need .    Getting 120V to our camper is not a problem.  If I get the smart phone, will I be able to connect to my LapTop and wireless printer via the hot spot, basically in my home?   Will that be all I need? In other words, will I be able to drop my satellite internet and just use the hot spot wifi? Or will I still need both?    As you can tell, I am very new to all this stuff and have a lot of questions.  What about unlimited data /text/talk options I hear about?  Speed, we will use the wifi primarily for email, surfing, printing and maybe some games.    Thanks. . .  K

  • Resizable form what form property need to set?

I had created a user form, i want it to be resized by the
user. No matter what ever BoFormBorderStyle i set
(fbs_Sizable,fbs_Floating) in the runtime i could not resize it.
I tried by setting in screen painter, and also in the code like
    oForm.BorderStyle.Equals(BoFormBorderStyle.fbs_Sizable)
but in the run time i could not resize it.
    I am using 2004.2 B.

    I tried this one
    oForm.BorderStyle = BoFormBorderStyle.fbs_Sizable
    before i use this
    oForm.BorderStyle.Equals(BoFormBorderStyle.fbs_Sizable)
    I could not use
    oForm.BorderStyle = BoFormBorderStyle.fbs_Sizable
    because i am getting error
    <b>Property 'BorderStyle' is 'ReadOnly'.</b>

  • Hey! i wonder what steps are need to set up an iphone or an ipad as an Airport Express device, so it uses its wifi capabilites to capture a music stream, being conected to a pair of speakers in my living, or in my bedroom ?

I know that i can receive in my iphone the streamed music of the itunes library but this happends as an indepent music stream from the one already  playing in the computer
I would like those to be in sync:
so i ca n set my whole house under one music stream, with my 2 iphones4, my ipad, and  1 airport express. plus the local pc in my offifce,
The airport express is hooked at the livingroom with a 4.1 set tha rocks.
my local pc is hooked to a Sony 5.2
then mi iphones could be at the master room and the other in the kitchen.
while managing the 4 individual streams with independent volume levers.
justa as if they where all airpor express devices
Is understood that the iphone 4 obviously exceeds the technological requirements to achieve such a task. !

you should be able to do what you want using Airfoil.

  • Can anyone explain what i would need to set up some form of lets say blog technique on my website?

I am building a website for a friend and something came up that i am not use to they want a blog type on their website? i am aware i am going to have to use php and some other things but in what way do i approach this? maybe some help with code?

You could use WordPress to build your friend's site.  WP is built with PHP & MySql database driven content.  WP has a built in CMS for creating blogs & building web sites.  It's much easier to use a ready-made blogging framework than reinventing the wheel.
WordPress › Blog Tool, Publishing Platform, and CMS
Another option is to use Adobe Business Catalyst for your site.  BC has blog, CMS & other business modules.  Price includes hosting.

  • Can anyone tell me if  AirPort will work with an RCA STA-3850 Stereo Receiver?  If so what would I need to set up to use with my Imac.

I have IMacPurchased in 2008 and want to get a AirPort that will connect to my speakers (UTAH's from 1975 in still very good condition).  My stereo receiver is  ~ 10 yrs old:  RCA STA 3850 and still works like a charm.  I really am NOT technically inclined and tend to stumble into solutions through 'dumb luck'.  If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate it.
    Thank you.

The AirPort Express has a compatible analog audio output, you just need to connect it to an available input on your stereo. You may use the "AUX" or "CD" input, it's up to you. The RCA STA 3850 has no digital input.
Buy a cable that looks like this one:
    6ft 3.5mm Stereo Plug/2 RCA Plug Cable - Black
Its length and the type of plating used for the connections are up to you as well.

I've never tried as I have WLAN access points/routers that I use, instead.
Yes it is possible, have played about with mine and successfully used it. You will need to bridge the connections between your internet connection and your wifi connection on your laptop.
Nowhere near as easy as using a router though.
I have full End User experience of:
