Hi I just got out of this situation after two weeks of forums and have tried any kind of different solutions.
If you have no response using start-up keys and you can't choose your start-up disk when pressing "Option" here is what to do.
The problem in this situation is common to users that install Boot Camp and at one stage the installation fail, may be a bug in BootCamp or just our mistakes, it doesn't really matter here is the solution.....
If you can start Windows, or Start the installation dvd of Windows do it, when In windows you will need to install BootCamp windows Driver, if you try to use the Apple downloaded file, it will not work.
You need to find the zip file in internet I found it with Google.
When you have the file run a "cmd" window with Administrator privileges.
Navigate in the folder that you have decompressed and open the folder Drivers/Apple/ you will see the file BootCamp.msi or BootCamp64.msi, of course choose the one that correspond to your Windows System .... type the file name and hit enter .... the drivers will install .... but what we really want to be install is that little icon on the system tray (right bottom).
After we will restart windows that little icon will give you the chance to restart the computer in OS X.
If something during the BootCamp and Windows installation had corrupted your OS X installation, you will have to reinstall, but at least you will be able to do it now. ;-) It took me two weeks and lot of researches, it's an hour job. Have fun.

  • What do I need to run Windows on a Mac and Word for Windows?

I have a Mac OS X Lion and would like to run Windows programs which are only programmed to run on Windows.  What do I need so that I can run Windows and Microsoft Word.

"I have a Mac OS X Lion and would like to run Windows programs which are only programmed to run on Windows."
Your best bet is to use VirtualBox to provide a virtual machine capability allowing the installation of a guest OS like windows. I've used VB extensively for years and I highly recommend it's use for your issue.
If you have a full version of windows, you could use bootcamp as an alternative to VB but you lose the ability to access the OSx environment while booted in windows.
    Best of luck

  • HT2518 I am trying to move across & view my home movie clips from my PC to Mac, but I can't view them.  What do I need to have installed on the MAC to view such files? (Originally put onto the MAC from a Canon video camera)

I am trying to move across & view my home movie clips from my old PC to my new Mac but I am unsure what software I need to view them.  They are from a Canon video camera originally.  Please advise how this is done!

Do they have a file extension?
How about anything on the camera which might indicate what it is, like AVCHD?

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • What do I need to do to get my Mac os to recognize my JVC Everio video camera?

I used to be able to just plug in the camera and the computer would recognize it.  Now, nothing happens.

If you made a bootable USB drive of your Mavericks installer, you can boot to that and install Mavericks directly. There's no need to install an older OS first. Likewise, if you have a separate bootable drive with the downloaded Mavericks .dmg installer anywhere you can get at it, you can run the installer from there, then choose the erased drive as the target to install Mavericks too. Again, without having to install an older OS there beforehand.
Macs with 4GB of RAM are not faring well with Yosemite. More features means more hardware requirements. You have 6GB, which may be alright for Yosemite, though I would personally recommend 8 as a real use minimum.

  • What do I need to do to install quickbook on my mac

I have quickboo for windows....what do I need to do to transfer to mac pro

You'll need to be running Windows on your Mac, either via Boot Camp or one of the virtualization solutions such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox. For more information, post in the Mac OS X or Boot Camp forums. This forum is for questions about the Communities themselves.

  • I have Mac OS X Tiger and I want/NEED to upgrade my software to Snow Leopard.  What do I need or how can I?

What do I need to do to upgrade my Mac OS X 10.4.11?  Can I purchase Mac OS X Snow Leopard or do I need to have Leopard Mac OS X 10.5? Please help me!

A somewhat naive and insensitive response to the problem:

Perhaps. But it's been several years since Apple binned Rosetta -- and much rumpus has been made of it. (It was of course an optional download in Snow, which gave the game away.) So there has been considerable "fair warning".
Fair warning to who: geek-heads like us who frequent tech boards on a somewhat consistent basis?
That is not who is continuing to use Snow Leopard in 2014.  These are people who purchased a Mac for a few specific tasks and believe in the well-worth aphorism that: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Optional install of Rosetta in Snow Leopard -- minimal significance in that the first time they ran a PowerPC app, it directed them to download Rosetta.  This happened once and long ago.  Few would even remember this occurrence.

I can only presume that people who have been happily using Snow Leopard or earlier for many years, who suddenly now decide to upgrade, are doing so because the apps they use demand it.
A mis-reading of the current tea leaves!
Apple's latest update of the Snow Leopard App Store continuously reminds these users that a new version of OS X, Mavericks, is available; and... FOR FREE!  With the only option to close this dialog box, a click on DETAILS...
Pretty hard for the inexperienced (let alone the unexperienced) to ignore.
These people have not thought much about upgrading their OS X since Snow Leopard's introduction in June 2009.  That is a long time to have had computer stability and ignorant bliss!  I am somewhat jealous of their status!
    benwiggy wrote:
Of course you should always make sure that your apps will run in any new OS version.
Sage advice: but only if the end user has read it!  How often do we see the roaringapp website cited to those Snow Leopard users that are educated enough to come to this forum and inquire about the update?
Unfortunately too many of them have already taken the plunge and now are confused why their individual set of important programs will not operate after the upgrade!  They at least have options...
Far worse are those who upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks for hardware reasons: they purchased a new Mac, potentially to replace one whose hardware has failed.  Now after their migrate their data from their backup or clone, they are faced with a much more limited set of options.
The fact of the matter is that there is significant history here: the 'miracle' of Rosetta.  Apple designed it to be transparent and mostly invisible.  Most Snow Leopard users today have no idea what the difference is between PowerPC software and that which will run on an Intel family processor; and why should they?
Again, only when faced with the dreaded "PowerPC apps will not run" dialog box, do they realize that something is wrong, very wrong!
The proof of the pudding are the significant numbers of recent Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgraders who, for the most part, find their way to this forum facing a problem they are neither reasonably educated about by Apple beforehand, nor are they at fault for the problem they are facing.
Telling them that somehow it is their fault for not having taken the proper precautions only adds to their frustration!
The fact that you personally have seen this problem happen countless times, has no significance to that one user who tomorrow will post the problem anew...
For those who are lucky enough to have the same hardware and have inquired about the problem ahead of their upgrade to Mavericks, the proper advice is to partition or add another hard drive and install Mavericks there!
Experiment with their existing environment in Mavericks but have the dual-boot ability to immediately go back to using Snow Leopard as needed.
Any other advice is heartless and cruel and certainly not harsh!

  • I have Mac osX 10.6.8 2.16 1gb 667 mmz ddrs2 sdram.  what do I need to do to use the cloud on this machine, and can I upgrade my os

I have an iMac, osx, 10.6.8/ 2.16/ 1gb/ 667 mmz ...I want to use the icloud on this machine, what will I need to do if it is possible?

Is your machine a Core2Duo? Check these requirements carefully:
System requirements for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6
backups are always a great idea.
When you are ready to buy the upgrade, you need to CALL the Apple online store and ask for 10.7. They will sell you a download code that can be redeemed in the Mac App Store. (the 10.7 software is "put away" so that users do not buy it in error).
In leaving 10.6, you shed any programs that require Rosetta emulation. These are my top six:
    Photoshop/CS2
Word and Office 2004 and older
    Eudora 6
    FileMaker Pro 6
    AppleWorks 6
Quicken 2007 (but a US$15 upgrade is available that allows you to carry on)

Upgrading RAM and your HD will give you some performance gains, but depending on what you are doing, it may not be enough. Your best friend will always be processor speed. This has a direct relation to how many cores and the speed of the RAM.
However, if you are unable to spring for a new computer, then the options of running more RAM and a biggger, faster HD should ruduce some bottle necks.
Here is a site where you can check out what your computer can handle http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade They have some charts comparing speed gains with various components.
Are you using the track freeze option to manage the track count and subsequent demands on your machine?

Hi you have basicly 2 Options.
1 -if you Switch One fotostream on all 3 devices of yours which are working on the same apple id -all Fotos you Take with your iPad will be synchronized via icloud to the other 2 decvices ( w-lan and battery depending).
2- If you select foots or a whole album in iPhoto on your air or iMac and choose than puplish --> fotostream --> new or existing event you can key in a friends mail. If this friend has iCloud and iPhoto ( for iMac or MacBook ) and click on the link in the email it will download this fotos in the fotostream section in iPhoto. If he has a iPad, iPhone,... It will do it in the foto app and if he doesn't have a iCloud account at all and you choose "public web site" while publishing he can see your fotostream on a website.

Are you talking about the English dictionary?  Mine seems to work ok on the AZ republic web page.  Does yours not work on all webpages?  Does it not work when you type an English word in Notes and then do select and define?

Assuming you've done a system wide search for it including the Applications folder and it's not there......
I think you will need to address this with them - did you pay them for the application? Or was your purchase price to include it? And the question(s) to ask them:
If the app store states that it has been downloaded, ask them where it is and which Apple ID they used. (the store keeps track of Apple IDs and machine IDs on everything you download).
I have absolutely no faith in their advice; however, in this case, it's not so much technical advice, but an answer to your questions: you paid for something and it appears not to be there.
