What do I use to make a banner ad?

I have a macbook.  I would like to make a simple banner ad for a little website. Is there an app I can purchase or software that I can get to make this easy? Nothing outrageously expensive.
Thank you

Pixelmator would probably be just fine. It's available through the App Store, and is very reasonably priced. I have found it not quite as easy to use as Photoshop, though. Then again, Photoshop is relatively expensive.
There are also a few Freeware graphic apps you can use. Gimp comes to mind.

You have not mentioned just how elaborate you want the banner to be. If for instance you want motion, then you might need an application which handles animated gif files or Flash. Also, what is your source material? Are you needing elaborate type rendering? Banner ads can be something ranging from a simple picture or illustration with text, to moving pictures or rolling images with type effects that require a more elaborate application than a simple "paint program".

    Last update was 3/3/2011 which was the itunes update. So the problem must be w/the itunes update. Does anyone know how we can contact MAC to tell them of this problem?
    It's highly doubtful there's a general problem caused by that update, or the forums would be full of similar posts. More likely, it's specific to your setup somehow.
    Have you Restarted your Mac lately? If not, that's always worth a try.
    Then, make sure there isn't a problem with the file system on your internal HD. Verify it, per #6 in [Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Using Snow Leopard+ forum).
    If that's ok, then as GfulDedFan says, run +*Repair Disk Permissions,+* per #5 there.
    If that doesn't help, try connecting to your router via Ethernet cable instead of wireless, to rule out interference problems.
    If you have the same results via Ethernet, you can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your nearest Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
    Or call AppleCare at: (800) APL-CARE (800-275-2273)

  • How can I tell what took someone used to make a flash...

    When I'm out surfing around I come across Flash that I'd love
    to make a one of. For example I like to do photography and I see a
    Flash window that has thumbs across the bottom and a larger picture
    on top, and then if you click on one of them you get a much larger
    pictures, I looked at the source for the page, but I can't see any
    clue as to what tool make that Flash...
    If I like what someone has created in Flash, how can I figure
    out how they made it?
    Thanks
    Kelvin

    I don't have problems with many things, but being called a
    THIEF is one of them.
    I did not say that I am helping the community move forward by
    decompiling others work.
    I did say that the community CAN move forward FASTER when
    people stop getting hung up on the idea that their code is
    something SACRED.
    If you develop something new that has never been done before,
    then you have something that you can protect.
    If you want to see how other people did it, so that you can
    better understand the different methods that can be used to do that
    one thing, you are not stealing.
    I know many people that take the same stance that I do.
    People that look at code to understand it. Most of the things I can
    do today because I looked at other peoples code. I didn't copy it,
    I took hints from methods and used them to create my own methods.
    Sometimes I decompile something, knowing how I would do it,
    to see how that person did it. If they have any hints at better
    methods that I could use to make my code faster, better. To say
    that the majority of people steal is to take the standard American
    view on the world. Americans tend to believe that everyone else is
    a thief, a crook, whose only intent is to do wrong. (I am BTW, an
    American, and I am very proud to be an American) If you step back,
    and open your views, and your code, you will find a much different
    picture painted. The majority of people aren't looking for
    something to steal, but they are forced to take methods that people
    would consider "stealing" to learn to do the things that they want
    to do.
    There are many good reasons to look at code, with or without
    the permission of the person who wrote it.
    In the end, these are my views, and I am not alone in them.
    Those are your views, and you are not alone in them. If you lose
    respect for me, then you do. I am here to help who I can help with
    the knowledge and experience that I have gained over my time as a
    web developer. I only entered these forums recently, and therefore
    don't have anywhere near as many posts as you do, but that doesn't
    make my position any less accurate. The advice I have given people
    is correct and true, and I offer up the things that others don't.
    Even if you do not believe in using decompilers, decompilers exist,
    and have their uses, therefore should be mentioned. In the end, I
    lose respect for you, who I have held in VERY high regards since I
    entered this forum, because you are closed minded, and unwilling to
    offer the full information to people who are asking.
    When I create code, I consider it open-source code. I am not
    about to try to fool myself into thinking that people can't see the
    code if I don't want them to. But why would I not want them to.
    Because I spent hours writing it myself. At least, if others see
    it, they won't have to spend as much time to get the same effect. I
    know that some of these people will take it verbatim to use in
    their projects, and not give me credit. But I don't expect credit.
    It is a few lines of code, why should I get credit for writing it,
    when I am not the first, nor the last, to write the same code.
    Please do not respond to this. We both have better things to
    do than sit and debate about the merits of open source code, and
    learning by looking.

  • What can I use to make a decent quality QTVR movie under OS X?

    I made a Quicktime VR movie some years ago of my computer room using Apple's Quicktime VR Studio v1.0 under Classic on my G5. I had to use my OLD QuickTake 200 (640x480) camera, since it was a preset in that app and I could not get focal length, etc. right corresponding to my "real" camera.
    http://www.bytecellar.com/qtvr.html
    I'd like to take an updated set of pics and make a rather higher resolution QTVR of the room, but I don't know what app to use. All my Macs are Intel-based now. What is the modern app to use to make a QTVR? This inspired me:
    http://www.airbus.com/en/aircraftfamilies/cabinshowroom/360_degreesviews/ACJ.htm
    What did they use for that?
    Ideally I would use a tool that generates a perspective-correct QTVR-style movie that ran in Flash, but I can't find any such tools to do that for less than thousands of $$. Thanks.
    blakespot

    http://www.airbus.com/en/aircraftfamilies/cabinshowroom/360_degreesviews/media/ACJ.mov
    Is the source file but QT Pro doesn't show what software created it.
    It appears QTVR has been abandoned by Apple so I guess your search for software should start by inquires to those that still create content.
    It used to be a very popular method of Web page "interactivity" and many camera manufacturers included software to create them.

  • What do you use to make Gnome apps look good in KDE4?

    What are you all using to make Gnome apps (like Firefox, Gimp, Inkscape.. etc) look good in KDE (I am using KDEmod).
    I tried Qtcurve (I think it works the best), gtk-qt-engine (for some reason it didn't seem to work for me) and others...
    I want to hear opinion from other people (who use KDE or possibly KDEmod) and who are probably using Arch longer than me. This is my first successful Arch install.

  • What program was used to make this video?  Is it After Effects?

    I thought that this clip was funny: http://www.clipaday.com/videos/mccain-drums.
    I want to make something similar for my brother, but I have no idea which program was used to make this.
    I have the full Adobe CS3 Suite on my computer, including After Effects. I use Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator regularly for my job.
    I want to try to monkey around with the video software at an amateur level. But before I buy any tutorials, I need to know what program to buy the tutorial for!!
    Thanks for any responses.

    While the clip may not necessarily have been done in AE, you can achieve
    these results. Careful masking along with good keyframing of the
    movement properties will do it. There are other ways, but while this
    might not be the fastest, would be the simplest and would provide a good
    learning experience for someone starting out.

  • What can I use to make a poster?

    Hi, in early 2010, I bought a Macbook Pro and I love it! I was really excited about having software that I could use to make really cool posters and things. The only thing is, as there is no longer comic life, I have nothing to make posters with or do my homework on. Does anyone have any suggestions about software or applications which aren't astronomical in price? I'm only thirteen and I don't have much money. Thank you.

    You might want to check out Apple's iWorks. It's 99 Dollars, but you can download and try it for free. one of the programs in iWorks is Pages. It's a word processor and basic layout application. it's very easy to use. And it includes templates for making posters.
    Open Office is a free Alternative to word and pages. You can use it to word process, and It can open, and save word files. http://www.openoffice.org/
    Pixel Mator, is an alternative to photo shop. You can use it to make posters or edit photos. You can download it for free, but it costs 50 dollars, http://www.pixelmator.com/
    A free Alternative to photoshop would be Gimp. It's kind of hard to use in comparison to pages and pixel mator. BUt it can be used to make posters. It can be downloaded at http://www.gimp.org/ .

  • What tools were used to make this cartoon picture?

    I want to make a picture like these ones, but i dont know which tools to use. it seems they didnt use the pen tool at all, and i cant quite figure out how they did all the shadows and highlights. its seems they used the brush, but when i use the brush tool, i dont get the same clean results. any advice? any good tutorials that could help?
    Thanks in advance

    Adobe Illustrator is probably the best tool to do something like this.  It's made by drawing a lot of shapes on a lot of layers.  You can do this with the pen/brush tool in Flash, but they really aren't the best for drawing.  Check out tv.adobe.com for some videos on Illustrator.

  • Wonder what effects were used to make this?

    I'm making a version of this with a different logo.  Anyway, it *seems* like an emboss, but it isn't one I've encountered before.  Doesn't seem like any of the out-the-box emboss emboss options to me.  The gradient isn't a problem....except in regards to the emboss.  It has a very sexy, chiseled, sharp look to it that it pretty hard to recreate using homemade gradients and built-in emboss features (that I know of).  Any thoughts?  Thanks, buds.

    It seems like there's a lot going on here.  There's that chiseled, metallic emboss that is most clear on the "O".  But there also seems to be a 3D effect maybe (although it could be a copy of the logo an a separate layer I suppose).  The emboss around the type is strange to me in how it is viewable at every angle.  As mentioned, I figured out the gradient pattern for the face of the logo (pretty simple to do with the brush tool) but that galdern emboss just blows my mind.  It looks like it was made with either a modified stroke, a copy of the logo an another layer, a 3D effect, the basic hard emboss or all of the above.  It's really well done to the point that it just looks abstract to me in terms of technique.  And even the emboss has what appears to be some kind of gradient applied.  I'm too much of a photoshop simpleton at this stage to figure it all out though.
    This is as far as I managed to get:
    As you can see, it lacks that crisp look.  Hmmm....

  • What software is used to make interactive children's e-books and apps?

    Hey there!  I'm new to the forum and  working my way through each Adobe product.
    I'm just starting with Flash and wondered if it is the software resposible for making ebooks like this one:

    i dislike x-code/obj-c but that's the most direct way to build iOS apps.  but if obj-c seems easy enough for you, that would be the way to go.
    because i'm so much more comfortable with every other language i've encountered i would look at appcelerator's titanium and flash before i went back to x-code.

  • UDPevent? What should I use to make an event when an UDP packet arrives?

    every time my machine gets an UDP packet I need to write out the time(within millisec), and therefor I need to find an eventnotifier of some kind that checks for UDP packets arriving..

    oki.. so I'm building a class for reciving the packets.. I guess i should use a thread since my program allredy is reciving these packets whit JMF - reciveStream.
    now the problem is, how do I write out the time for each packet, i cant seem to find any events i can use for this, and as far as I can see, the datagarmsocket is listening for the packets and doing something with them(**) without somewhere for me to put the: System.out.printeln(time);
    (**) I am going to write the packets to a file and parse it for the sequence numbers, how do I do this?

    I have created a form in DW 5.0 using spry text fields. I am wondering what I did wrong to make the form fields show text?
    Thank you.

    Thanks again. There's one other thing I wanted to achieve here. I need the date format to be displayed like "dd/mm/yyyy" and not like it's doing by default at the moment (i.e. mm/dd/yyyy)
    I don't have any knowledge of jQuery but had a go anyway at trying to fix this using this link http://api.jqueryui.com/datepicker/ as aid to try adjust my code. Obviously I couldn't get it to work so far...  So I'm looking for a little bit of help from anyone who knows a bit of jQuery.
    Here's the original default code (just the stuff that goes in the 'head' of the page):
    <script>
      $(function() {
          $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker();
    </script>
    And here's what I tried adding to make it work:
    <script>
      $(function() {
          $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker();
          $.datepicker.formatDate( "dd/mm/yyyy" );
    </script>
    Obviously I tried other combinations including .parseDate instead of .formatDate etc etc none of which worked.
    I'm wondering whether the extra code should perhaps go inside where the XXs are - $( "#datepicker" ).datepicker(XX)
    Anyway, if somebody could help me out that would be great. Cheers!
