What do I want in a computer?
If I were to buy a computer exclusively for PE11, what features should I look for?
I have had a horrendous time trying to run it on my perfectly-good laptop. I'm thinking I might be able to get a big, ugly, inexpensive desktop with more juice (and not running anything else) -- and maybe I'll have better luck.

I have three cameras that shoot AVCHD 2.0 or "1080p60". I was using a i5 Toshiba laptop with 8 gigs of memory. It worked OK, but could be sluggish at times.
I think Steve is right as long as you are editing "most" consumer formats, especially the interlaced ones with smaller files. I didn't find that to be so true with the "granddaddy" 1080p60 format that PrE 11 works so well for.
I wanted portable, big screen, fast and hopefully be able to burn Blu-Ray. I shopped for several months.
I found many feel the MAC Book Pro Retina to be the top choice. Many suggest the HP "workstation laptops". Some, including this forum's Bill Hunt, use specially focused laptop builders that assemble the computer and then "tune" it for editing. All were more money than I wanted to spend.
I accidentally tripped over the ASUS "gamer" laptops and found one that included all my dreams. At the time I bought it it was $1800. Yes, that's more than all the choices at Best Buy and Costco, but it has a big HD screen, lots of memory, a graphics card, fast USB ports, etc. It has a SSD that helps make 1080p60 editing even smoother. A 5 minute video takes about 5 minutes to render to final output - if I don't have many effects, transitions or multiple tracks.
It even has a Blu-Ray burner! It came with a padded backpack so I can walk to my buddy's house and play games or edit video or pack it as "carry on" for evening editing of the day's vacation video work.
If you add an external optical drive to a Mac Book Pro Retna, I paid about half price.
After 6 months, I continue to enjoy it. I've beefed up the software to include Premier Elements, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom, some plugins, a second monitor and USB 3.0 external drives. Editing and organizing is more fun than it used to be!

An iPhone can only sync with one computer at a time. All of the music you want on your phone must be on the same computer. -
I am trying to restore my phone from the backed up information on my computer. It is asking me for a password. I tried my screen lock code and my apple id. Does anyone know what password it wants?

plug cable into computer not phone
turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.

You get that message any time you download an executable file. It is safe to open as long as you download from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

That isn't the way it worked for me.
Once I download the installer from the App Store, I was able to open it and install Lion.
I would suggest trying to download it again.
If the same thing happens again, you shopuld discuss this with the App Store Support.

The standard licence covers installation on any two computers - one being in use at any time.
If you change computers, simply uninstall from the old machine and install on the new - Lightroom doesn't use "dial home" activation and deactivation. -

and while calling someone via skype, i dont want them to hear what im hearing on the computer such as Itunes, youtube, or whatever comes out of speaker.

this is not fun.You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.

I try to open attachments in emails and they will not open! A box comes up asking 'what do I want to open the file with', and it wants me to select from a list of options like - Firefox, IE, Word, Yahoo Browser. When I make a selection (usually Firefox) a new tab opens with a blank page! This always happens on attachments, links, websites......everything!

That's not consistent with what you wrote in your first message. I can't help you unless I know what's going on. Either you do, or do not, have backups of all the data you want to keep. If you do not, then the first thing you need to do is back up those files. It makes zero sense to do anything else. In order to back up, you'll need either of two things: another Mac, in working order, with a FireWire port and enough space on its internal drive to hold your files; or an external drive, also with enough space.
On the other hand, if you do have backups, or if you simply don't care about any of the data, then the solution to your problem may be quite simple. All you have to do is boot from your installation disc (your profile says you're running Mac OS 10.5), erase your internal drive, reinstall the Mac OS, then restore your data from backup. You will need to be selective in restoring software, because incompatible software may be what caused the issue.
But it's also possible that you have a hardware failure, in which case you can't get your computer working again until it's repaired. -
I can't open the downloaded evaluation copy of Project Professional 2013. Asks me what program I want to use to open the file.
I think you have downloaded .img file. If you want to install that program follow the given instruction.

Firefox is asking me what program I want to use to open firefox. It has never done this before.
Several days ago an XP internet Security 2012 invaded my computer. It would not let me do anything except sign up for a $60 program. It did allow me to send a message to its support stall. But of course I could not get to my email to read their answer. Yesterday I went to safe mode Firefox and that allowed me to get to my email. The message from XP internet security apologized and suggested that I set the date on my computer 6 days ahead and that would remove their program. So I did and their program is gone. But now whenever I want to use firefox it asks me what program I want to use, I select Firefox and the site opens. Also I can not change to date back to normal. When I go to the control panel and click on date and time, it says application not found and does the same thing for most everything else in the control panel.

Try restarting it. If this does not work, then hard restart it which is holding the power and home button until the product ***** off. If this does not help either, plug it into the computer and restore it. Make sure you back up the device before you restore it though!
