If you mean the little icons next to the message like below. It indicates you've replied to a message, an arrow going to the right means you've forwarded the message and a paper clip indicates an attachment.
Items on the toolbar can be identified by right clicking the toolbar and selecting icons with text.

yesterday i downloaded the new version of i tunes and had 10gb left on my i phone and in the "other" tab down the bottom it now says 3.18gb i dont know what type of files contributes to it can anyone help?

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or ( in the case of an iPod that can be enabled for disk use, files that are on there if you are using an iPod as a removable storage device). What causes iTunes Match, on an iOS device, to lose the cloud icon next to each song. On my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S one cloud shows up for a whole album to tap and download a whole album but the ones next to the songs are no longer there. No songs will delete from my phone once downloaded from the cloud by sliding my finger to the left over the song and tapping delete. Instead it just plays the song when I try to delete it. To delete my music from my device I have to go in to settings and delete all the music. This worked fine for the first week and then one day the cloud status next to each undownloaded song disappeared and started doing this.

For my ipad, I have a few movies I want on it. Most of my movies have a cloud in the corner and I do not want them on my ipad. What does the cloud mean?

Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store>Show All>Videos>Off. The movies with the cloud icon are movies in the cloud and they should disappear when you do what I posted.

What does the cloud with a red arrow pointing down mean?

My friend let me pre-order an album from the iTunes Store using his Apple ID but each song that hasn't been released yet has a cloud with a red arrow pointing down next to it. What does that mean? Do I have to wait until the album is released in order to complete my album? I'm also back on my own Apple ID so does that effect anything?

Try this. Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Show All>Music>Off. See if that gets rid of the songs with the cloud icon on them.

My music is in the cloud, but it's also on my hard drive. Why does it all show with the cloud icon? Anyway to force the iTunes client to recognize that all of the music is already in my iTunes library folder?

Recently moved to a new PC. Upon installing iTunes, in the Settings dialogue, I've indicated where my iTunes library is stored. And yet, all of my albums in iTunes are showing up with the "cloud" icon, meaning that the client doesn't realize there is a local copy. Clicking the "cloud" icon ends up downloading a duplicate copy of the song/album.
Any suggestions for how to fix this...so that my iTunes client knows all of this music is on my hard drive (in addition to being in the cloud)?

I turned on itunes match on my iphone, but still seeing lots of artists without the cloud icon???

I turned on itunes match on my iphone, selected "enable" and first turned OFF the slider that says "show ALL music" ... I still saw a bunch of artists (about 100)
Then I turned the slider to ON and saw about 600 artists (as it should be), but those 100 artists do NOT have the cloud icon next to them (meaning that somehow the music is actually "ON" the iphone) ...
can someone explain?? I thought it would be empty except for icloud, and then the things I download from icloud??

If they do not have the cloud next to them on your iOS device, it means that the song is cached on your device. As your device runs low on space, it clears the cached songs and you'll see the cloud next to it. Each time you listen to a song, the song is actually downloaded while you listen. Next time you listen, it's off the device, not the cloud.

I'm asking because ios5 introduced iCloud. You have to have updated to ios5 to see it.

I have an iPhone 5. It says I have 537 songs on it but every song shows the cloud icon. I have gone through every suggested step I've googled and deleted songs but settings still shows them. When it's plugged into my mac itunes shows it only has 42 songs.

A quick question, well 2 really!
I have a specially inquisitive client, who is always asking me difficult questions:
1) In mail, what do the little icons mean that you sometimes get when opening an IMAP account. They look like little circles next to the inbox name - one has, like, 3 quarters filled in, the other has, maybe, 1/8th filled in... I can't find this information anywhere!
2) Why does it take longer to show messages for IMAP accounts? I guess its because Mail is checking the synchronisation (or something else) between Mail and the IMAP server, but what's the official line?!?!

Since no-one else has replied I'll try to answer your question.
The circle you discribe is shown to the rightside of inbox when the Mail-app is connecting (retrieving) messages. Or when you click on another mail-box such as Trash or Junk. If it's not completing which it should then disappear, Apple suggests you go to DOT-MAC & read your mail there. This is because since the release of Tiger or mid 2005 Mail-app has difficulty reading unread mail from DOT-MAC! But I do find that if it's already open it can sort my in-coming Junk mail OK! And un-read messages. This answers your second question, I hope this helps.

Anyone can help?

Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.
