What do you do when all sound quits working except the ringer on phone calls

The only sound in my phone that is working is the ringer for phone calls. The sound for apps, keyboard clicks, notifications, texts etc is not working including plugging in my phone charger sound. Please help. This is happening at random.

Annnnnnd....now the ringer doesn't work.  No wait.  It does.

what do you do when an app quits unexpectedly before it opens?

It could be Mountain Lion.  Developers have had access to Mountain Lion beta builds for many months, so it seems like they would have worked out the bugs before release, especially a major bug that causes the app to crash. Make sure you are installing the latest version downloaded from the developer's web site, not a version that came with your Kobo device.
Sometimes, an app's preference file gets corrupted and the app crashes when it tries to read its preference file at launch.  So you can try deleting its preference file, so that the app can create a new one.
In Finder, from the menu bar, select Go -> Go to Folder.  Type
    /Users/<your user home folder name>/Library
replacing <your user home folder name>.
This will take you do your user account Library folder.  Go into the Preferences folder, and find the preference file for the Kobo app.  Its name will probabaly start with "kobo" or "com.kobo" or otherwise have "kobo" as part of the name, and end in ".plist".  Drag this file to the Desktop (so that it's no longer in the Preferences folder); don't trash it because if this is not the problem, you can put it back later.
Then, try running the Kobo app again.

  • What do you do if all your music disappears into the Other folder......dreaded orange bar!

Hope this will help someone as there is clearly not much help from Apple nor this forum.
I am on vacation away from my home computer where my iTunes is.  I turned on my iPod and scrolled down to Music and it showed "No Music."  Went to "About" and saw that there were only 9GB of free space, so I felt for sure it was there because that's right at what I had when I last synced it, which was a couple days ago and it finished syncing with no problems.  Went to the next "About" screen where you can see how much Audio, Video etc. etc. you have and it showed 0 Audio and The "Other" category had all the data in it.  What happened to my music, and can I get it back on vacation without my iTunes on my computer at home?  I tried the holding down of the Select middle button and the Menu button until the Apple logo appeared but that did not restore any Audio.  Hope someone can help me out here.....Thanks
Re: Ipod Classic 160GB having issues, need help please?
Oct 25, 2011 5:06 AM (in response to Fishead)
Solved my issue and thought I might do someone a favor by posting the answer.  If you wind up with NO MUSIC and find all your audio files have been synced into the OTHER folder on your iPod such as what happened to me, AND if you happen to be unlucky enough not to have access to your computer where your iTunes program would allow you to re-sync your iPod, here's what worked for me in a Windows7 OS.
1.You will have to find a computer that has enough storage to hold the amount of information stored on your iPod.  In my case, 139GB!!!  Download iTunes if it is not already on the system, or if it is, update to the latest software.
    2.  Plug your iPod into one of the USB ports.
    3.  Open iTunes if it does not open itself.
    4.  Select your iPod from the menu on the left and you should get a message that iTunes cannot read the iPod. Simply close that box.  If you get a message that syncing your iPod will erase all content then decline the sync.
    5.  Open Computer and you should see your iPod as an external hard drive.
    6.  Open it and you will see some folders and a few files.  The folders will likely look like they are a washed-out yellow instead of a deep yellow like you're accustomed to seeing.  That threw me initially because as I was looking for the folder with @ 139GB, it was not there.  Right click each folder, go to Properties and check the "Show hidden files" in the View menu.  After that, the folders will appear dark yellow and as you hover over each one, you will see one that will have the full amount of data that was on your iPod before the mess started. Open that folder and you will see a bunch of other folders with strange names, like F00, F01 etc. etc. Do the Edit, Select All, right click and in Properties, View menu, check the Show Hidden Files again.  All the folders that were that light yellow color will now turn deep yellow.  Be sure to select show hidden files not only for the folder but all sub folders and files box that will come up....forgot to mention that earlier.  Now all your folders and the files in them will be readable by iTunes.
    7.  The folders will all still be selected.  If not, select them and then do either a copy/paste into iTunes Music Library or drag them over into that pane.  The process will begin and likely take quite a while.  In my case, several hours.  When it is done, you will see all your music in iTunes along with the album art if you had any.
    8.  Now you will need to sync your iPod to that library, but before you do, you will need to Restore it.  Simply select it from the left menu and click on the Restore iPod option.  That will only take a few minutes and it will wipe your iPod clean.  Before you do that, it is a good idea to MAKE SURE YOUR MUSIC IS ALL THERE!!!  I also went to about a half dozen of the albums and tried playing a few songs just to be double sure.  Proceed with the Restore, and when it is complete change the iPod name that will be in the small box on the same page as the Restore option and likely be something like"karens iPod" (whoever the computer belongs to will be the name there) to exactly what your iPod is called on your iTunes on your computer that it was originally synced to.  I found that before I did this, it would not sync.
    9.  When you hit Sync, be patient because it took a minute or so before it actually began to sync.  Then, it will be another few hours if you have as much music as I did for the sync to complete and depending on the speed of the computer you're using.
That's how I got all my music back and I am now a happy camper/listener again.,
I called Apple support and they were absolutely no help.  Just told me I would have to re-sync to my iTunes even though I kept telling them that was 1,650 miles away at my house and not going to be possible.  I even asked if the above process would work and they said they didn't know but "You could try it....." :-(  At that time, I didn't have access to a computer with enough hard disc space on it yet so I called the Apple store in Louisville, KY which was 65 miles from where I was hoping that they might be able to help.  After 2 calls and getting hung up in the same loop of menus that left me on hold for over 20 minutes long distance, I gave up and concluded that Apple and Support are two mutually exclusive terms and have no relationship to one another. This has been quite a nightmare, and if anything good has come of it aside from having my music back, it might be the learning process but I really feel that is a rather small reward for the time spent!
Not likely to be an Apple fan when considering my next purchase of home computer, laptop, nor the phone I am preparing to buy.
    Hope this has helped someone.

I never throw anything away up to a point when it has become silly and then I have a cull. (This applies to the loft, the garage and the hard disk)
I always have (at least) two backups to external drives and by the end of a project also have a full backup to DVD.
I am a hobby photographer, so this isn't necessarily a good professional workflow!
I store work in progress within a folder structure that identifies just what it is, final folder being date stamped for the start date (eg D:\My Pictures\Photgraph Album Master\Family\Bob\20100715 Farnborough airshow)
Photographs of value are then kept within the folder with a date stamp and version number if they change within a day (eg 20100823 Alexander in cockpit 2).
Photographs I haven't touched remain with their camera-specified name.
Lightroom, which I use, doesn't know about external drives or DVD backups. (Maybe it should, but it would become confusing)

Try resetting it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then releasing.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

  • What do you do when your keyboard stops working on your MBP?

Turned my MBP on this morning only to find I was unable to open any of my files. After finding this out, I restarted it and now my keyboard won't work.  It is stuck on the sign in page and the only button that is working is the power button. But the power button won't let me turn it off. Help!!

    evans_re,
does the trackpad not work? If it works, you could try selecting “Shut Down…” from the Apple menu.
As a last resort, you can hold down the power button for approximately ten seconds, which should force a (non-clean) shutdown.
If your keyboard is completely non-functional (excepting the power button), then you should take it to an Apple store or other qualified service facility.

  • All Sound stopped working on the Iphone's SPEAKERS.

    Please... help me out here.
None of the phones sounds are coming thru the speaker!
The keyboard clicking sound is not working, the sleep button sound is not working, the music is not playing thru the speaker, nothing!
I tried doing a soft reset and it didn't do anything.
It is not the headphones port bug, I even cleaned it, and when I try to adjust the volume on the side buttons, it doesn't say "HEADPHONES" like it says if you have them plugged. Even so, I've cleaned it. And NO, it is not the "silence" button on the side. I have checked a lot!
This is the third time it has happened to me. The other 2 times, I tried to reset it and turn it on and off. After a couple of hours it started working again. But now it has been a WHOLE day since it stopped working.
I think it must a software thing... I haven't dropped my phone or anything. PLEASE HELP ME!

Sorry, but you are in trouble.
A restore completely erases the iPhone, and installs the current firmware version, which is 1.1.4. After 1.1.4 is installed, or re-installed for those iPhones already running 1.1.4, there is an option to restore from your iPhone's backup - which is the default selection. This must be followed by a sync. The backup stores data on the iPhone that is not included with the sync process.
If the hack that you used to unlock your iPhone is compatible with 1.1.4, you must re-apply the hack to re-unlock it after the restore process.
Hacking an iPhone to unlock it, or for any other unapproved modification is against Apple's license agreement for the iPhone, is not supported by Apple, and voids the warranty.
And this will be the extent of any support you can get here for a hacked iPhone.

  • I have problem with the sound, no sounds is working except the music?

All applications sounds not working, the keyboard sound also , I don't know why? How to fix this ?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod/Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

    Hi.
I have a problem with Quicktime (7.3). When I try to run the program I have the following error message:
    +"Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Runtime Library+
    Program C:\....\quicktimeplayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrpted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated"
It happened suddenly without installing anything. I've tryed uninstalling and installing again but the error still shows up.
No one seems to know anything about this problem including the almighty apple. What do I do now?

    Heh.... Double indemnity....

  • What do you do when your ipod only has on the screen is picture of a USB cord it is a row facing up to iTunes

Connect your device to your computer and open itunes.  It'll prompt you with what you need to do.

  • What do you do when your facebbok doesnt work in your laptop?

    '''bold text'''

When you see this, you have a backup that has been encrypted.
This can be something you've turned on (perhaps by accident), or you've got an email account on your phone that forces any iTunes backups of your phone to be encrypted.
Either way, there will be a password that you know on the backup.
It could well be your email password - so it would be worth while attempting to use that one to access your backup.

  • IPad Sound Not Working, Volume High, Ringer On?

Well, this has been going on for a while now but my iPad sound just doesn't work! On YouTube the sound does work however, the ringer doesn't work anymore and out of nowhere even the application sound effects, etc. have stopped working! I'm trying to detect whether this is a hardware or software problem and by the looks of it it's hardware. Is there any other way I can tell?

    1. Double-click the Home button and swipe Task Bar to the right
    2. Check the volume and mute settings

I was downloading an album when my computer quit working, when it came back up all of my music was missing from my library, what happened and how do I fix it?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

That's what iTunes -> Preferences -> Playback -> Sound Check does - equalizes the volume across tracks to provide a more-even playback.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • So what do you do when you win an auction & the seller then cancels the sale & relists the item?

So i 'won' an open auction for a watch bracelet at a cost of GBP 2.00 from a vendor on the UK site last week. Got an email saying shipping cost would be GBP 8.00.  Responded within 2 hrs with a no problem, just send me an invoice with the shipping costs included so that i can pay for the item.  Next day, seller cancelled the sale & relisted the item with a minimum price of GBP 20.00.  The seller (Margo5415) wont complete the sale claiming she "didn't think i wanted the item" ?   I protested but to no avail as it seems obvious to me that the seller felt the item would (and should) sell for far more than GBP 2.00. Matter & vendor were reported to ebay but as usual, ebay wont do anything about the sale nor penalize the seller. (Hey they make $$ off these sellers and the more it sells for the more $$ they make).  Ebay simply told me they would 'investigate' but to leave negative feedback for the seller which i did. I wont go into how many times i had to re-explain the situation to the help desk person and had to listen to them say  'dont worry, we are here to help you'.       Is there no other recourse here at all?

    reid4311 wrote:

When those circumstances are clear like these were, ebay should penalize the seller.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       I agree that makes the actions of the seller all the more scatterbrained and unprofessional. For the sake of argument, what do you think would serve as adequate punishment for the seller in this case? What more should ebay do? Revoke their ability to sell altogether? Fine them? Unless ebay.co.uk is run drastically different than ebay.ca, the seller in this case would have gotten your negative feedback which gives them an embarrassingly low rating PLUS a defect from ebay for cancelling the transaction. The point of your feedback is to warn other buyers; the point of the defect is to flag them for ebay as being a risky seller. What more would you, as the wronged party in this, like to see happen? Nothing will get this item to you now unless you're prepared to pay the new price and the seller hasn't blocked you. I'm genuinely curious; the question is not intended to sound belligerent. Please don't take it as such.
