What do you do when you're thinking about something hard or an odd issue?

I reach for my cricket bat and head towards whoever caused the problems to carry out some user education....

I think a lot of people have different expressions used when they're thinking about something.
I was a neighborhood party, someone was asking me about their google calendar acting odd.
I told her what I thought would work and she's like I think I tried that.
I was then a bit stumped by that and I think I kind of wrinkled my forehead, squinted maybe a little and looked a bit to the side seeing if something else would come to mind.
Do others have some expression they use in cases like this, or do you think some are better or should try and not do these things?

What were you guys thinking or not thinking?
We recieved the new guid update it terrible. it's a pail blue with white text, a smaller text size , and it stayson screen for 3 seconds you couldn't read it if you could see it w/the white on light color. do you guys ever look at demmographics the largest sement of population are baby boomers , hello has anyone heard of age related blindness or at least decline. the old info bar stayed on longer so you had a chance to read it and the font size was large enough, and color contrast allowed me  to read from the next room  now you have to be on top of the tv. and keep hitting the button to read it. are you guys trying to give people another reason to leave if so you're doing a darn good job!

I agree 100%. This is absolutely ridiculous. Bring back the old format, if this is the best you can do. This extremely difficult to read.

I currently have Snow Leopard and am thinking of upgrading to Lion but have heard some bad things about it.  Should I upgrade or not? What do you like/dislike about Lion?

It is indeed all down to what you need to do with your machine.   Snow leopard is an excellent OS and as Baltwo suggests you have to check out your current apps and programs because PPC won't work on any higher OS than the one you have.
Andy's comment is very interesting and, I suspect, insider knowledge based     Certainly I would wait for Mavericks now it is on the horizon ... and then add six months or so for the bugs to be ironed out.
Good luck, whatever you do.   I'm staying with Snow Leopard.

  • UBER ANGERY TECHNICIAN..... WHAT ARE YOU GUYS THINKING!!!

Hi I've been in the business of end-user repair, training and servicing for about 20 years.  I've owned computers from every major manufacture on the market and I've repaired computers from every single manufacture on the market.  This will be the second time in my life that I've actualy taken the time to register and post to a manufacturer forum....
Today I serviced an IBM Lenovo PC Model#41V9706 Like any intelligent technician I backed up all the customers irreplaceable data prior to beginning, and was informed that the customer had NO disks to speak of for their system.  At first I thought, "ahh, common customer disguarding their important disks... As usual, But then I looked at his face and realized he was  65 and rich... Any way I found the restore application on the hard drive, ran it and created a boot disk.  I then proceeded to try to restore from the backups on the drive.  Didn't work (Great job btw on making good working backups....)  Finally I did a manufacture restore and the @#$@ing thing deleted the entire drive BEFORE it told me that I needed more disks to do the manufacture restore.  Are you guys out of your mind creating a program that is so backward that it doesn't even tell you that with out the disks it leaves the system completely useless?  As of yet all of the lenovo software is now gone, I've had to install a fresh and blank copy of windows using the customers install key and NOW I can't even get their factory software back onto the system because a copy of it doesn't appear to exist.
I'm sorry to be so frank but what the heck kind of restore program deletes all the backups before it tells you it can't help you?!  Even windows doesn't do that.  If I am ever to recommend or endorse another IBM product it will need to show some intelligence in it's design and include fail-safes or at least some kind of warning system to let people know that it is completely useless before it deletes data.  I am in the process of contacting customer service about this but I am not hopeful as my experience shows that for a small fee of $49.99 I might have the software replaced... What a royal piece of crap.
Your backup product receives a lousy 2 in my book your only redeeming qualities are it's ease of use and it's ability to work when windows doesn't.
    Jess

call lenovo 800 in your country to get the original software disk and drivers, if you are in warranty time you get no fee to paid, and is 3 to 5 days to receive the disks

  • What do you guys think of this site/pricelist/ any advice?

    Hey guys,
Just finished up launching my graphics business website -
    www.coastgrafix.com.
Have a look at it, let me know what you think, didn't want to
get to advanced with flash on it etc. - If you have any pointers or
ideas for it or the pricing let me know!
    Regards,

As others have said, your menu text defies legibility, but so
    does all
of the text except "CoastGrafix" in the logo. The Serpentine
    font is
particularly hard to read, even in print, and as graphic text
    at the
size you are using it, might as well be hieroglyphs. It is
    also, as
others have noted, a very dated type face--it does convey a
    "high tech"
feeling, but the "high tech" of about 1982. The HTML text is
    too small
and white text on black is hard to read.
The highlight colors for your menu are confusing. A color
    that serves as
the highlight color for one menu item is the not-highlighted
    color for
several others. Two shades of gray are used for two menu
    items'
highlight, and the orange... well, it's hard to summarize
    what the
colors might mean here, and that's a problem.
Also, the color scheme that you seem to be trying to use on
    menu items
to indicate the current page is inconsistently implemented or
    just an
accident that looks sort of deliberate.
You are using orange with an underline for links, but using
    the same
color (without an underline) for emphasized text. This is
    confusing.
On your ???? page (can't tell which page it is from the
    design, and all
of your page titles are the same) you have an image that says
    something
like "HOT SPECIAL." Clicking this launches my email program.
    I have a
very strong aversion to links that are email links and not
    identified as
such. You would do better to use a form for this function
    anyway.

The batterylife on the 5530 would depend on what youre using it for, and it has a bigger screen than the 6700 c. Anyhow, but there are steps you can do to make it use less battery, turn down screen light, make sure not other apps are running in the background, turn off bluetooth and so on.
The batterylife will also be reflected in where you are (signal strength) - as beeing in a area with bad coverage will dry out your battery faster.
For normal use with a little calling, some music, some texts and a bit wlan you should get a couple of days - as I have seen been reported around on forums. - FW updates will often improve batterylife a bit, but if youre going to listen to music and radio all day, I think you will need to charge it over night.
My youngest sister is listening to music all day, but does not call much, but sends about 20 texts per day - and she needs to charge it overnight to make sure she get throught the next day without running out of battery. She also happens to take a lot of photos...

  • I updated my iPod Touch and it's not giving me Siri. It specifically told me that ios6 would give me Siri, but it didn't. Just saying, if you are thinking about updating your iPod touch for Siri, don't. It's just a disappointment. What should I do?

    It's very annoying.

It specifically told me that ios6 would give me Siri, but it didn't.
Actually, it did not specifically say it was coming to the 4th gen Touch.
From the page about Siri, http://www.apple.com/ipod-touch/features/ it states at the bottom of the page:
Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (3rd generation), and iPod touch (5th generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area.

  • Don't use Best Buy Delivery if you are thinking about it...Just lies, lies, and more lies..

Wow, where should I even started?
We brought a 55 in TV from the local store last Sunday, and schedule a delivery yesterday (6/6/2015).
They called us the night before delivery date, to confirm the delivery on Saturday from 1:30- 3:30pm.
We waited until 3pm, and finally received a call saying "they were delayed a little bit", and moved the time to 5:30-6:30pm. Ok, not good, but we can understand.
But of course, they didn't show up on time. We decided to call them again at 6:22pm, and were told they were 45 minutes away...
7:30pm, after a hour, we called them AGAIN, and was told they are 25 mins away.
We had another delivery scheduled from Lowes at 8pm. Lowes showed up on time, and installed our fridge and washer/dryer professionally. They left around 8:30pm.
WHERE IS OUR TV FROM BEST BUY THEN???? Don't they supposed to show up before the Lowes???
We called them again and again, but nobody answered...well, I guess it is a Saturday, and they went home WITHOUT even bother to tell us.
Last time we spoke, you told me you are 25 mins away. Is this a lie? or you just decide to go back to your sweet home after we talk on the phone?!
Sunday (6/7), I called the warehouse again in the morning, but no one answers, the voicemail is full as well (So I think we are NOT the only one experienced this ridicuous issue). Then we called the 1-888 number, and explained what happened. The customer rep on the phone couldn't get hold of the local warehouse neither, and told us to call back within several hours. (They did give us a case number: {removed per forum guidelines} though) We called back before noon, and was told they are not open on Sunday, and they don't know when will be get our TV delivered, maybe Monday morning.
Ok, here is the thing, we have to work Mon- Fri, that's why we requested to deliver on Saturday. And come on, Best Buy, it is just a TV, it is not huge appliances that take you that much time.
I can see why there was delay, ( not saying we were happy about it though...) But you could at least called us to let us know before you went home on our scheduled delivery date!!!! And were all those "45 mins away", "25 mins away" things lies????
    Dear Best Buy Coustomer Relations,
I am expecting a responce back from you in a few business days from today, 06/07/15. Your responce should be sartisfying us. If we don't hear anything back from you or your responce to us doesn't satisfy us, then we will go talk to someone higher in your organization. Thank you,

Hello MengyaLiu, and welcome to the forum,
I’m honestly not sure why our delivery team would have told you they were on their way to your home and then not arrive without an explanation as to why. Our delivery agents should be notifying you of all necessary changes in their delivery schedules, as we realize the inconvenience any possible delay may cause, so it’s regrettable to hear we failed you in this regard. I truly apologize for any frustration this oversight may have caused.
While I’ve personally documented your feedback here at the corporate office to ensure something of this nature doesn’t happen in the future, I’m glad to hear our delivery team was able to make this right and successfully delivered your TV yesterday. Please feel free to let us know how it went and if you have any further questions for me. I’ll be glad to help.
    Best wishes,

  • What do you NOT like about Oracle Portal?

Using a theme from a post on AskTom, I thought I would start one that details what customers don't like about Portal.
    I've got a few:
    PPE
When load balancing, it forces us to use NAT in the load balancer. Extra configuration, extra time, etc.
    Java or MOD_PLSQL?
Mod_plsql has been around for a long time. It is robust and stable but a simple Dad for Portal is a mix of Java and Mod_plsql. It is not nearly as clean and stable as a mod_plsql application.
    SSO
SSO should be part of the middle tier, not the Infrastructure. It just adds another hop and another thing to manage.
    PTLConfig
ssoreg is for SSO registration of Partner applications. Easy enough. But wait, it doesn't work for Portal. You have to run ptlconfig for it.
    SSL configuration
Wow, what a pain. A Java application or Mod_plsql application is easy to configure for SSL. Not true with Portal.
    OC4J Portal In Process
Showing the status with opmnctl won't show in-process things like Portal. It can only be seen in OEM.
    Explicit Path
In the HTML Portal generates, it has the full path to everything. I tried just changing the hostname in the httpd.conf file but that doesn't work either. We used setup.exe OUI_HOSTNAME= to change the host name of an install which works ok. When using multiple middle tiers, you have to use the real host name for each server and then use a VirtualHost all because Portal uses the full path instead of a relative path.
    Migration of code
Portal doesn't really support the idea of multiple environments which every large company (which is a big part of Oracle's customer base) uses. Migrating a page group with all content from Test to QA isn't something built in like it should be.
I've got some more complaints about Forms, Reports, Discoverer, and SSO but this is just about opportunities for Portal.

    heh. why so negative?
what about a thread about what you LIKE about Portal :-)

  • IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT FIOS

There service is sooooo bad you are better off without it!  Do not get Verizon.  You WILL be in the same world of regret as the rest of us stuck in their contract!  Their CS is awful.  You can not imagine how insanely poor!   On the first day some guy eating a taco told me I have to wait 30 days until I can use any Verizon service.  Supervisors agreed with him.  Finally when I was going to cancel they told me it was **bleep** and eventually was able to sign into MY VERIZON.  The features are VERY difficult to sort through and use.  I don't even bother trying anymore.  I will not bother calling CS to help...they are too busy patronizing to help.  Maybe they should soend time training their empployees on how the sytem works rather than 1million "sorry to hear that"...
DO NOT GET THIS SERVICE!!  VERIZON IS AWFUL...Phoooey

I think we have a Troll. This post is utter nonsense.
I've been a Verizon/Fios customer for almost two years now, and while the customer service is certainly not the greatest (they have NEVER been patronizing me nor ever been the least bit rude, they just aren't the quickest bunch on the planet),  the overall product is the best and I do not regret for a single solitary second switching from worst cable company (love the Roberts family, NOT) on the planet to Fios.
And I've had no problems using any of the functions, nor do I find them "difficult to sort through". I have and will continue to highly recommend fios every single time over the 500 pound gorilla philadelphia cable company.

  • What can you tell me about HD recovery success

My G5's HD is crashed and gone (confirmed by Apple tech). I will replace it myself (out of warranty and I have done before w/G4) but I want to know the most cost-effective recovery method. I am likely going to buy Data Rescue II. Anybody have any pro or con experience with this or just with HD recovery in general?

That is what everyone tries first, because it works, lets you demo what it might recover. After that, you get into sector copying devices like Disc Jockey for $500.
Makes buying 3 of those WD 6400AAKS for $240 so easy. Two backups for each data drive.
