  • What do you think of the latest update to iTunes?

    What do you think of the latest update to iTunes? I don't like it.

    I agree. I've used iTunes since iTunes 9.0. The new 11.0 update is horrible. With the now missing left side menu, it's very difficult to navigate. You don't know where you are or where to go. I delete everything Apple from my computer, and inverted back to iTunes 10.7.

    What do you think about the iPhone 4 for my 11 year old daughter

    It should be a good choice. I recently got the 5C which typically is $99 with supported carriers. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint provide attractive pricing with a two year contract or it you are adding a line to your current service. I have several friends using the 4S, and they have been very pleased with them.

  • What do you think about BIOS 1.8 for KT4V

    What do you think about BIOS 1.8 for KT4V?
    Is this version really better?
    CRC error- still  be occured?

    Hi
    This bios is catastrophic(k).I flashed bios and boot to win 98 and no one of my programs wont too work.Every time I try to start anything there is a note "this program performed illigal op...".So I re-installed win but problem remains.Now I'm back on bios 1.7.

  • So, what do you think I should do?

    So, I'm getting into computer graphics and 3D stuff. I have realized that the Radeon 9600 that is default in my Dual 2.3 G5 isn't the greatest for 3D design. I was @ the Apple store the other day and was trying out the different machines. I'm really impressed with the new iMacs that Apple just released. They had Final Cut Pro running with some content and it was really smooth. I was planning on eventually upgrading to a Mac Pro to replace my Dual G5 but I was wondering do you think the new iMacs are good enough for this kind of thing? I plan on using Cinema 4D from Maxon, and probably Blender.
    I guess these are my options:
    1. Sell my Dual G5 / 20" Cinema display and get one of the new iMacs.
    2. Keep my Dual G5 and upgrade the video card.
    3. Keep my Dual G5 and make do with it or use it along with my MacBook Pro until I can get a Mac Pro.
    4. Sell my Dual G5 and use my MacBook Pro with my Cinema display, Keyboard, and Mighty Mouse even though the resolution on the Cinema display will only be 1600 x 1000...and put the money I get from the G5 torward a Mac Pro.
    To be honest the performance I'm getting with my G5 is great with everything except for the 3D graphics. I tried the demo of Cinema 4D on my G5 and my MacBook Pro, and the MB Pro blew it away. With some of the animation demo content m G5 was running @ about 12 FPS. My MacBook Pro was running the same content @ full speed. The performance with Blender is actually pretty good on the G5. I'm not sure if it's the intel processor or if its just because the video card ***** in the G5. I don't want to go upgrading the video card if it's really because of the G5 processor. I have 1.5 GB RAM in my MB Pro and 2.5 GB in my G5. What is your advice?

    Congrats on the new Mac Pro, it was hard from reading your request if money was an option or not.
    I have a Guad G5 and love it, and I am running the NVidia Quadra card, and run Motion, Shake , Final Cut Pro, Color etc and it runs like melted butter.
    And I guess it helps that I have it maxed on ram..
    Cheers.

  • After updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.1.1, my back camera doesn't auto focus anymore, and it takes blurry pictures. What do you think I should do?

    after updating to ios 7.1.1, my camera doesn't focus anymore. pictures are blurry. what do i do? can anyone help me with this?

    Hello Megeedolore,
    It sounds like your rear facing camera is not functioning correctly. I would start by quitting all the open apps on the phone with the following article:
    iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.
    When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:
    iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    If the issue persists, and you have a protective case, remove the phone from the case and retest the issue.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • What do you think I should do?

    Okay, here I go...
    I bought a MBP back in June 22. I returned that one because it was giving me problems, one KP (Kernel Panic) per day, the speakers sounded awful (the day I took it back they didn't even work!!) It was a week 21. Apple swapped it right there and then for a new MBP, week 22. This one has only given me one KP so far. The panic.log goes as follows:
    Wed Jun 28 18:05:18 2006
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0019CADF): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 14=page fault), registers:

    The KP happened while I was shutting down my MBP, weird (for me at least) I thought they only happened when you were using wireless internet and downloading large files?
    Okay my question is, should I call Apple and try to get them to change the logic/motherboard or do I take it back to the Apple store and tell them basically everything I'm saying in here?
    I have AppleCare for 3 yrs. and my 14 days still don't expire (I have until July 9th)
    Also this heat issue is also getting on my nerves...the bottom of my new MBP gets really hot. I have to use my old art journals as a shield from the heat that emanates from the bottom.
    Any suggestions from you guys will be appreciated...
    Thanx in advance.
    -Javier
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Long story short...I went to the Apple store, got told the same thing, and after pointing out a creek (located on just as the right speaker ends; I had to lift it up and then gently press) they told me that the "creek" wasn't normal and that I could get an exchange for a new one....still not convinced that this one is going to be better from the last two. But I still have high hopes for it...I mean, I love this machine, and sometimes you cant help but complain....its just that why so many problems with it.

  • What do you think of these feature requests for AME?

    Just submitted two new feature requests and it wouldn't hurt to have other users make the same requests if they agree. The first is a really basic feature of most encoders that surprisingly AME seems to be lacking and that is the ability to append the preset name to the source filename. This saves multiple renaming of targets .. for example if I have two presets called H264 720P 1Mbs and H264 720P 6Mbs and I add these to the same target I will get {source_filename}.mp4 and {source_filename}_1.mp4 as the results - nothing there tells me how my two encodes differ and in fact how they are named depends on what order I add them in. This makes setting up a queue incredibly tedious as you have to rename every single target.
    The other one is a request to be able to process multiple sources at the same time and not just a single source at a time. Sorenson tackle this by allowing the user to specify the number of targets that can be processed at the same time. If you have a powerful machine with lots of RAM then this is a no brainer.. especially if doing multiple sources to only one or two targets.

    Nice requests. Just trying to be helpful here:
    Re REMOVE EFFECT - ALLOW US TO CHOOSE WHICH EFFECTS
    I agree - this could be quite useful. However, It sounds like using adjustment layers may be helpful for your workflow also?
    Re: Increase/Decrease Volume using Keyboard for MULTIPLE CLIPS at once (between In and Out)
    I've stopped using volume altogether now, and instead use 'Gain' mapped to "g" key in premiere keyboard layout. SUPER useful, for all the reasons you describe. I've never used I/O marks, but you can make big selections of clips, or a whole track's. Volume controls in Premiere, as far as I can tell, caps at +6DB for some reason. I routinely have to go much higher than that. also there is a very intelligent gain options screen that lets you bump your selected clips relatively by +/- DB levels; or set absolute values; OR set normalization targets. I LOVE IT, and its all I use now.
    It seems to me that the audio component of Premiere if far more sophisticated than any other NLE I've used  [ Avid MC, FCP...]. My only caveat is that volume and gain are not integrated across all methodologies. For example, you can have a volume adjustment on the clip, the track, and gain adjustments on the clip all operating independently- its alot to keep track of on projects that get passed back and forth between different editors with different methods!

  • What do you think of my Bash Script? What about the error checking?

    Well what do you think of this Bash script
    It works
    I gave it some problems (i.e. unpluged the ethernet, messed up the URL's, uninstaled some programs...) to see if would report errors and stop or just keep going... But it did
    I just kind of thought up a way to do some error checking with the commands that I know.....
    What is a better way to do error checking?
    What do you think I should add/Do to this script?

    Personally.....  (this is just how I would have written it - if it works, then it's good enough for me though )
    I would change this whole block:
    verify="n"
    while [ "$verify" != y ]
    do
    printf "Do you have mbr installed... yes or no?"
    read AN1
    echo ""
    printf "You answered... $AN1 I have installed mbr. Is this correct... y or n?"
    read verify
    done
    echo ""
    if [ "$AN1" == "no" ]
    then
    echo "Install mbr now. Then run this script agin"
    exit
    else
    echo "contunuing script"
    fi
    To this much shorter code:
    MBR='/usr/bin/install-mbr' # Or where ever you expect it to be
    if [ ! -x $MBR ] ; then
    echo "mbr doesn't appear to be installed."
    echo "If it is installed, check it's location, make sure it's executable and then make sure the MBR variable in this script is correct"
    exit 1
    fi
    I wouldn't have used the checkXX variables for each stage:
    mkdir ~/usbbiosfiles
    if [ $? != 0 ] ; then
    #failed
    echo "Could not \make directory usbbiosfiles"
    echo "look above \for \info"
    echo "Fix the problem and run this scrip agin"
    exit 1
    else
    echo "Made directory usbbiosfiles... OK"
    fi
    There is an issue with the way you do your verifications - the user can never get out unless they answer 'y' or hit CTRL+C. Something like this gives them options:
    verify="n"
    while [ "$verify" != "y" && "$verify" != "n" ]; do
    echo "You need to answer 'y'es or 'n'o"
    read verify
    echo $verify | tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]" # This converts the answer to lowercase so replies entered in upper case will still work
    done
    if [ $verify != 'y' ] ; then
    exit 1
    fi
    One last thing I try to do in scripts... Declare all your binaries as variables at the start of the program, then execute the binary program by using the variable. For example:
    # Binaries
    TAR='/bin/tar'
    CP='/bin/cp'
    CHMOD='/bin/chmod'
    # Execute tar and chmod the created file
    $TAR cvzf /tmp/tarfile.tar.gz /etc/*.conf
    $CHMOD 400 /etc/*.conf
    This way, it's easy to change the path in future without having to hunt through the script if the paths change, and it also ensures you're calling the programs using the full paths to make sure you're not executing some strange variant or alias that someone has setup. If I use `chmod` 30 times in a script, and the path changes in the future or on a different system (`chmod` is a bad example cause it's highly unlikely to change, but you know what I mean), then all you need to do is update the variable at the start of the script, and it all works again without having to script-hunt and change it 30 times.

  • What do you think of dev2dev newsgroups?

    <p>Are they of any use?</br>
    Do you get descent answers to your questions?</br>
    What do you think of reward points?</br>
    Have you got any suggestions for making them more popular?
    Feel free to reply on this new group or put a comment on my blog if you want.

    Warning: blatant cross-post. I posted most of this as a comment on your blog entry. Added more up top... none of this is really specific to BEA per se - more of my rambling on collaborative forums.
    I use the newsgroups. They're my single best way of getting information and have been an absolute life-saver when using ALUI (nee Plumtree). Really. Docs are starters, but the ability to ask things online and collaborate with people / share ideas is an "insanely great" thing people should leverage and foster. When I need help I start with the groups.
    Keyword: foster. It takes commitment from everyone, but most especially BEA (in this context). A well-tended developer community is not something that grows in the right direction without appropriate channeling and care. The rewards, however, can be priceless in terms of customer satisfaction, loyalty, and, ultimately, returning $.
    Reward points - not a huge proponent, myself, but I do share the vision. Good ideas tend to come from open, caring thinkers who listen and respond. I share a lot of the dreams/hopes I think BEA does on this front with valuation of posts, and, by virtue of that, posters in the context of a question/answer/information asset. If reward points move toward that, cool.
    Popularity - quality responses that help. Otherwise, a forum populated by nothing but questions will be dead - you'll realize there's no point in visiting.

    ===========
    I'm going to admit that I tend to live mainly in the ALUI forums, but the point you make about repeated questions is something that nags at me as well. Like you I see the same questions asked - over and over - I'd love to see these captured and exposed through updated online docs (assuming people are reading those...ahem - you are reading those, right? :).
    The questions that are asked are often very good / legit and should (IMO) be captured and then either thrown into "scenarios" or FAQ-type areas in the docs at a minimum.
    How do I do X? In what situations do I do Y? I blew up Z and now it's my job if I don't fix it - what do I do?
    I can't believe I'm going to say this as I'm not entirely onboard with "2.0," but possibly user-group Wikis so we can publish "how-to's" related to the IDK, etc.? Community involvement in online document updates may seem a bit...well...overly hopeful... but I do think that if I had the opportunity to document things I'd probably do it there so we could all benefit as opposed to me putting into in text file and then emailing it to myself so there's absolutely no way I can find it later :) Yeah - I'm being self-serving along the way again ;)

  • What do you think of new Cisco NSS 300 Smart Storage?

    Did you see the press release of the new Cisco NSS 30 Smart Storage?
    http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2010/prod_060910.html
    What did you think?
    More informaion about the product can be found at http://www.cisco.com/go/smartstorage

    I guess no one from Cisco is going to repond to your post Johnny.
    I agree with your thoughts, and was excitedly looking forward to Cisco's entry in the small NAS market and rushed out to buy a NSS326 (Equiv to QNAP TS-659) Unit.  I already own a QNAP TS-639 older model for 1.5 years and loved it - and expected Cisco just to make this even a better unit.  Which in some ways they have (Syslog and Radius features) - although as you've already noticed, elimation of QPKG application support which numbers up to almost 2 dozen applications that are not available on Cisco's version
    Unfortunately if you look on eBay, you'll see my NSS326 up for sale.
    To address your points (from my point of view)
    1) ROCK SOLID:  I've found the hardware to be just that (on both units).  Built well, and I'm sure will last for years.   As for software stability, - see next
    2) FAST FIRMWARE UPDATES:  It's for this reason that the unit is up for sale.   V3.0 of the firmware was a major release.  And there have been issues - although many/most of them have been addressed with still a few (somewhat serious) issues still lingering.   QNAP seems to be attacking these fairly quickly.   Unfortunately there has been 2 releases from QNAP addressing issues since Cisco's adoption of this unit since v3.2.6.   As you'll see in these posts, Cisco is not following QNAPs releases, and will be releasing their own line of firmware.  For me, this is a serious issue - and I wish I knew this before purchasing.  I feel Cisco is already 2 releases behind which includes many fixes to their current platform. (Also see QPKG note above - many missing applications)
    3) SUPPORT:  This is where Cisco excels and always has.   To start 5yr vs 1yr warranty, and of course Cisco TAC is one of the best in the world.  In contrast, QNAP's support quite frankly isn't great - although, it's support community for forums are excellent.   Unfortunately I can't speak specifically on NSS support since I haven't called them for this, so I'm speaking more generally.
    So it really boils down to whats more important for your situation.
    Cheers

    You are talking to fellow users on these forums, not iTunes Support or Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your phone number from your post.
    For the Camera app, try closing it via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the iPad's screen, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    If that doesn't fix it then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    In terms of syncing, you will need iTunes on your computer - if you haven't already downloaded it then you can do so from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    You can conncet the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar on iTunes 11 on a PC via control-S), and use the tabs on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to sycn your content to the iPad.

    For the excel file, what app are you viewing/editing it in ? If the values are different then it may be that the app that you are using doesn't support all the formulas that are being used in the spreadsheet. Apps that 'support' excel documents include Apple's Numbers app, and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.
