The hand/wrist area protection pad looks great, protects your investment, and "feels" good while in use, too.

  • What application to use to clean a macbook pro? I heard that some will give you viruses?

I am trying to clean my MacBook Pro since I only have 114.6 GB left in HD. I tried installing that robo icon that cleans your mac but was told it could give me viruses. I am super confused. Can someone help me just clean it without giving me the run around?? Thank you

"Only" 114 GB left? That is plenty.
Whatever you do, do not download or install any product claiming to magically "clean up" or "speed up" or "optimize" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite. If you already did, you found the problem. Fix it.
If you installed MacKeeper, get rid of it now. It is junk that will cause only misery. Follow the instructions to delete it with care.
Do not install such junk on a Mac. OS X already includes all the utilities it needs for you to delete unnecessary files.

That is all the maintenance a Mac requires. Really.
If you have been accustomed to using Windows, this will come as a shock to you. Get over it.

  • What do you use to clean your iMac screen?

I bought a bottle of 'screen cleaner'(for computers and cameras.) I spread it on the screen (it looks like hair mousse) and wiped it with soft cloth.... It left marks! I tried it many times but couldn't make it spotless ...
Should I use window cleaner instead ... since the outer screen is made of glass?

Yes ... 'rub gently' ... that might be the key ...

  • What do you use to clean your MBP, and how do you do it?

Is iKlear the clear (heh) favorite? Is there any other more generic stuff I can use that'd be cheaper (or that I could depend on should the product no become longer available)?
How often do you clean? And how thoroughly (i.e. is there anyone out there who cleans under the keys or in any crevices like that to get out dust and stuff, assuming it's possible to do that at all)?
And how do you do it in a way that doesn't let moisture in when you clean the keyboard and related areas? Everyone says "if it's not dripping, it won't do anything," but it seems evident to me that it's highly possible to have a cloth that's not dripping, yet still be damp enough to allow moisture to get in where it doesn't belong. There are threads here about people who've damaged their MBP in just that way. How do you make sure that doesn't happen?
Feel free to answer with what you think is best in general or with how you personally do it... or both!
    Thanks!

Everyone says "if it's not dripping, it won't do anything,"
Who says that? It's totally wrong and extremely dangerous to your MBP.
No third party products are necessary. Tap water (or distilled water, if you have access to it) will suffice just fine.
I use the black cloth that came with the computer to clean it. I turn on a tap such that it is just on more than a steady drip, then moisten a corner of that cloth. Wring out the excess moisture until it is only damp. There must NOT be any drips whatsoever, so wring it out thoroughly. Shut down the computer, and use the moistened corner to wipe down the areas of aluminum that are not close to the ports or speaker grilles. You may have to moisten the cloth multiple times to cover the whole machine. Mine often dries in the process of wiping down the case. It must be that dry, that it will dry out in 3 minutes.
There is no reason to take a chance with getting any water into the computer at all. Take half an hour to do a thorough job with a very lightly damp cloth (may have to remoisten it once or twice) every couple weeks, instead of paying $1000 for a logic board replacement if any water gets in.

What do you use to clean screen?

Usually just a cloth is good. If you want to keep fingerprints off you could buy an anti fingerprint screen protector or use the apple smart cover, which cleans the screen whenever you use it.

  • Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it first?

Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it up fully before you can use it. I do not want to damage the laptop by misusing the battery.

Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%.  The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.
    Ciao.

You have  DiskUtility to run periodicly for your basic good house keeping.  As for as fast I would recommend 8GB of RAM.
I would recommend Installing AppleJack -
"a user friendly troubleshooting assistant for Mac OS X. With AppleJack you can troubleshoot a computer even if you can`t load the GUI, or don`t have a startup CD handy. AppleJack runs in  Single User Mode and is menu-based for ease of use."

  • What do you use to manage your clients and push software?

Going around from machine to machine is getting tiring. We have been evaluating different software distribution applications and have yet to find one that has done the job well. What product(s) do you use to manage your clients as far as drivers, applications,
settings, configs, etc? All of our machines are running windows 7 (possibly Windows 8 by the end of next year).
The one's I've tried are: Dell Kace and ManageEngine Desktop Central 8.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
I always use GPO to deploy applications:
With Group Policy Software Installation, a software management feature, you can manage software throughout its life cycle within the organization. Group Policy Software Installation works in conjunction with Group Policy and Active Directory. It is one of
three Group Policy Software Installation and Maintenance components, which are described in the following table.

  • What would you use to clean a USB female connector on a TP X200?

I accidentally spilled some thick sugary drink in there which dried up. What would you use to make it usable again? Thanks.

Try a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Make sure to remove the power supply and battery and have plenty of swabs on hand. Don't soak the connector

  • What do you use to play your Tunez?

Well what app do you use
Im still trying to decide which i like best, so far for me the one i like most is Banshee, seems to handle over 30,000 mp3 with out a problem, so far any way.
    So whats your fav Player?

Amarok. it's the fastest with a big collection, and has many things no other player has. and most of these are actually usefull. i can't live without the lyrics (and the ability to edit them), the new tags are great (tough i'm waiting for the day they can be automatically synced with LastFM). i'm crazy about that lastFM integration, btw, it's amazing. a great way to find out about new music...
and i like the great integration with all kinds of audio players like ipod's, iRiver etcetera. great podcasting support. automatic re-coding of music to a format supported by the audioplayer - how could you use a player/sync app which doesn't offer that?

  • New Mac Pro: What are You using to connect your eSATA external drives to you nMacPro?

    Hi,
I have some eSATA external HDs that I would like to use with my 2013 New Mac Pro.
I was just wondering what other  have been using to connect their nMPs to eSATA devices and how well it has worked.  I have seen a USB3 to eSATA cable from NewEgg.... which seems like a good idea ... if it will work.
    Thanks!

LaCie TB HUB has two TB ports which is good for daisy chain. Has two esata ports also. I connect a Voyager bought from OWC to one sata port and that's where my bare 2.5 and 3.5 hard drives reside when I need them. The other sta port has a Pioneer 207 blu ray drive. When I sleep my 2013 Mac Pro I turn off the power to the Voyager and the Pioneer. All work flawlessly.

  • What do you use to rip your CD

The topic is well stated, just want your opinion.

I use intervideo WinRIP, Musicmatch or Windows media player. I reckon that Winrip produces the best rips and it will rip anything, but I find the interface is a bit clunky. Musicmatch is good for file conversion and it's the only one that does Mp3pro, but it's slow and won't rip all files. WM is the only one that will rip to WMA and it's convenient because it's on every system.
The only problem I've had ws when I decided to re-rip my entire CD collection in one session with WM0 at 92kbps, every single rip from that session stutters, could be my PC, could be WM0.
