What does (-40) mean in an error message?

In an error message relating to importing an AVI video into iMovie it says:
"The file could not be imported: (-40)" I don't understand what the -40 means. The video is about 390MB and is about 10 minutes long. When I did the same thing with a video that was only about 4 minutes long (160MB) it was fine.There is no other file open when I try importing, and there is more than enough memory available.

A quick search of Apples Support database yields the following that might aid you in understanding your issue. It would appear that iMovie may have a 9 minute per clip limit (not sure if this changeable), which explains why your 4 minute clip was ok, but not the 10 minute clip.

What does the meaning of this error in udump?

I solved my RMAN backup slowness problem. But I noticed that during the backup process, it generated an error file in udump as

I think I need more investigation about this. I found two papers last night:

with a previous online paper mentioning to alter the maxservers of aio0. Although this is an alternative, I tried to increase the value to 300 (500 at this moment) and it does not seem to work. On other hand, with change of the disk_asynch_io, it will hinder the exp/imp pump. So I really don´t know what to say.
Apparently the disk_asynch_io needs to be FALSE in order to speed up the backup. just verified again, even with my maxserver=500 did not help.

Use the expdp to dump my db with the asynch_io in FALSE. It looks OK, no delay.

Often, this error can be corrected by pulling the power on the Time Capsule, waiting a few minutes, and powering the Time Capsule back up.

Hello,
If you found that in your Airport Express log, then seems that can be caused (at least one option is:) streaming iTunes music through the AE.
Solution: Deactivate DHCP on the Express via the Aiport Management Utility, and fix it's IP and DNS settings to something coherent with your network. Save the settings to the Express, it reboots and your are done.
(If you continue monitoring the logs, the "Deauthenticated..." message above keeps on happening, but the Express now recovers fast enough so that iTunes never notices)
So just avoid DHCP if that is your scenario and all will come back normality.
Please let me know if all is OK after this.

The error for (3F1) does not always refer to the harddrive on your laptop. It appears that it can also refer to the optical drive. I just finished troubleshooting the same error message on a dv6-6000 series - it works fine without the optical drive, but will not boot with the Optical drive in place. I have tried a couple replacement optical drives, all with the same error message. It appears that the motherboard has the issue, not the drive. ANY COMMENTS?

Why won't my MacBook Pro backup to Time Machine (on my 1TB Time Capsule) when I'm running Lion OSX 10.7.5.? What does it mean when this error pops up: MacBook Pro.sparse bundle could not be assessed (error - 1).???? Please help me fix this!

Apparently I am not the only person having this problem as I have seen many threads about it. If ANYONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME, I WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT.
I try and run my backup as I always have, but it HAS NEVER COMPLETED SINCE I UPGRADED TO LION. As many mentions, I updated from 10.7.4 to 10.7.5 hoping that would fix my issue and it didn't help at all. I also unistalled WD SmartWare to no avail. It's really starting to annoy me since I have as much money invested in my MacBook Pro and Time Capsule as I do in my car....
I have more than enough space on the Time Capsule, but Time Machine is still failing and coming up with an error message: MacBook Pro.sparsebundle could not be assessed (error - 1).

That is a problem on the web server that you are trying to access.

Do the following:
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support. You do this from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple and note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator, just Right click iTunes installer and Run as Administrator.
Note : If you are unable to Remove Apple Mobile Device Support you can skip that.

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
• Camera
• External hard disk
• USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?
