What does a Sim card add to the functionality of an iPad mini?

The suject line is the question!

The sim card allows the Cellular model iPad to connect to a cellular/mobile carrier's network for internet so that you are not required to be connected to a Wifi network all the time.
The Cellular connection requires a Data plan just like your cell/mobile phone to access the internet. Most Carriers offer these plans for a monthly fee.

  • "the SIM card inserted in the iPhone does not appear to be support" help?

Just doing this for my sister since she's has not been able to do so. From what she said, after she tried to update her iPhone 3G with the latest update, it came up with a message saying "the SIM card inserted in the iPhone does not appear to be supported." She also said that she tried to go through her phone but something came up where there was the itunes logo and the USB cord pointing toward it. We have tried going to the AT&T and Apple store but they just keep insisting that she purchases the new iphone. Because of that I am sure that they could fix our problem but they just want to sell the latest toy. Now, I've been searching through google and it keeps telling me to download some programs that will jailbreak it but I don't really trust downloading things off of the internet (unless I know they're safe). So, is there any way I can fix this problem? - Thanks

You seem to have a carrier-locked iPhone. Only the operator can help you unlock it. You need to contact them for instructions.

  • SIM card inserted in the phone does not appear to be supported?

I have an Iphone 4 and I got the email form ATT telling me I could unlock it, after I sent them a request. I did all the steps and the "Congratulations, your Iphone is unlocked" message did not show up in Itunes. Instead, it went to the "The SIM card inserted in the phone does not appear to be supported. Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate Iphone." I have a Tmobile SIM card that I want to activate my phone under, but as of right now, I don't think my Iphone 4 is unlocked.
I tried the Apple support guide to this message, but there isn't a restore button for this. What should I do?!

    Contact AT&T.

Both iPhones use the same size SIM Cards. You will be able to simply transfer the iPhone 5 SIM Card to the iPhone 5C SIM Card Tray.

I too am having this problem. All I want to do is use my iCloud backup of my phone to fix a bug in IOS 7 that loop-prompts me to connect to iTunes. Anyone that has an answer to to OP would be greatly appreciated. There have been almost 3000 views on this page and only 8 posts that aren't much help at all so far. Enough with this 'Do you know how to read' white-space. I'm here for answers!!!
However, I suppose I already have the answer. This is simply another example of Apple using their software to limit consumers of certain demographics (namely, people who have the phone but don't pay for service from a carrier). A SIM card is only required for activation because the software administrator says so; and for no other reason. The hardware is there and its perfectly functional otherwise. I shouldn't even need to activate in the first place. Just restore my freaking phone!!

THERE IS NO SIM CARD INSTALLED IN THE iPHONE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE - and there is? Has anyone suffered this and what to do? Thanks

    Possible causes:
    1)  Improper SIM card placement.
    2)  Faulty SIM card.
    3)  "No service" area of the cellular network.
    4)  Unsupported carrier.
    5)  Network locked iPhone. Trying to a activate a locked iPhone on a different cellular network. (Other than to which it is originally locked to).
    6)  The computer doesn't have an internet access on which you are trying to activate your iPhone using iTunes.
    7)  Apple server busy (rare).

  • HT4628 what does no airport card installed mean?

I need help, my MBP wont show airport, it says no airport installed. What should i do to sort it out. I reinstalled the mac windows but still the problem persist.
    I need help......

Does not necessarily mean there is no sim card, just that the iPhone is not seeing it. Could be its dirty, mislodged or the contacts are dirty or fault.
Take the sim card out (paperclip in small hole on the side) and rub down the contacts with a soft clean cloth, re-insert and see if the message goes away.
    Good luck.

  • Iphone 3gs no longer will work  after iOs5 update, comes up with message ' there is no sim card installed in the phone. Can anyone help me please. I am working as a volunteer in a remote location in Asia and no where near an Apple shop etc?

I have tried to  update my 3GS phone and now it longer works as it comes up with message there is no sim card installed in the phone. Can anyone help please as I am no where near technical support as I am working as volunteer in remote Asian country

    Hi Allan,
Thanks for asking, I knew I had forgotten to mention something. The phone was indeed unofficially unlocked, since there were no apple stores or even premium resellers in the region I lived in during the given procedure had to be done.
I understand this could be a further complication, especially the fact the home button does not work. However, I was wondering if there would be a possibility to use a third-party application instead of iTunes to restore the iPhone? IF someone does know of such an application, I could easily solve further problems myself. Basically, the main issue here is my lack of ability to enter DFU mode.

  • What is a SiM card and do I need one in order to send email from my iPad?

What is a SIM card and do I need one in order to be able to send email from my iPad?

For further detail, a SIM card is a very small, thin, printed circuit card which you insert into a tiny drawer in your mobile device. It is your mobile/cellular account, with your personal details on it. So you can move it from one device to another. Before smartphones (like the iPhone), SIM cards also contained your Contact list. Since smartphones contain so much information now, the SIM card just identifies you to the cellular/mobile network. It means you can carry your phone number with you from one phone to another.
You can get a SIM card for iPad from any Apple Store or phone shop. Note that the newer iPhones and the iPads use what's called a "micro-SIM", which is smaller than a regular SIM card, so it takes up less room inside the phone, and they can stick more hardware in there for better performance. Make sure you ask for a "micro-SIM for iPad".
As Rudegar says, you don't need a SIM in your iPad if you always have WiFi access. But if you need to send email or messages outside a WiFi network, then you need a SIM, so you can access the cellular/mobile phone tower network.
You can get prepaid SIM cards which give you so much data for a certain period of time. You need to decide how much data you need, and how often you want to "recharge" it. The salespeople should be able to help you work that out.

    Any solutions yet?

Its an IMEI issue.  In my case, about a year ago, after originally purchasing my iP4 from AT&T store, I had a prox. sensor issue.  Went to the Apple Store, they replaced the phone.  Here is where it all stems from.  The IMEI of the new phone was never updated in AT&T/Carriers systems.  For iOS updates prior to iOS5, this was not an issue.  My phone did its iOS updates along the way with no probs.  However, when I updated to iOS5, the firmware did not match the IMEI with what AT&T/carrier had.  When I went to Apple Store for the issue about 3 days ago and was given a new phone....again....the new phones IMEI was never updated with AT&T/carrier.  I then again attempted the upgrade to iOS5 with the new phone and iOS5 bricked that one also.  Today, at the store, we tried 3 replacements with same outcome.
So, after 4 hours and 3 replacement phones with Apple Store Tech (BTW totally gobsmacked), we solved the issue.  Luckily, due to iPhone 4S launch, there was an AT&T guy there with a computer tied to the AT&T network to work along with us.  The issue is......once the IMEI's on carrier account and phone do not match, iOS5 shuts down the sim card reader within phone.....forever. How to reverse this?......this is a question Apple needs to come up with, because with my case, they have 5 "bricked" phones.
What solved the issue was to get a new phone with iOS4.3.5, new SIM from carrier/AT&T, have carrier/AT&T (in their system) change/match the IMEI to the new phone and activate new SIM.  Then, do iOS5 upgrade.
Simple and makes total sense..........however........there is an internal firmware (Apple Security??) issue that bricks the phone once IMEI's dont match.
I am now on iOS5.....no problems......so far.  Good luck to all others.

  • What does this mean "We apologize for the inconvenience, but the ability to order books and prints is no longer supported in iPhoto 5. Please upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto to order these products.

what does this mean "We apologize for the inconvenience, but the ability to order books and prints is no longer supported in iPhoto 5. Please upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto to order these products." I want to buy a photo book and that message keeps popping up.

TD, LN - You guys make great points and I will take you at your word. Normally, I would not hesitate to update. I have a lot at stake here with a large vacation coming up with a great many new pictures anticipated. I don't know enough to understand what is meant by "verifying my library." Please give me some insight there and I will start the upgrade process tonight! Seriously, I have wanted to do this for some time, but have been scared away by reading too many situations on these forums.
TD - you have a good sense of humor. I know all versions eventually need to be left to die away. Support is not eternal. I am sure I missed the announcement that certain versions of iPhoto would no longer offer the ability to conveniently make cards, calendars, books, etc. Like the original poster, I was surprised to learn my version did not offer that functionality only by requesting it and getting denied. Sort of frosted me at the time, as you can tell by my original reply here.
If anyone can help me with the "verifying" question, I'll get off of here and let the original poster have his thread back!
