What does "Assist me" do?
When I enable WPA password protection on my third party WiFi router (D-link WBR-2310), my Intel MacBook (with OS 10.6.4) loses the WiFi connection to the internet many times every day, even though the laptop appears connected to the WiFi, and the router itself is still connected to the Internet.
The same problem occurs with my wife's laptop, a G4 iBook, with OS 10.4.x.
This problem goes away if I disable password protection on the WiFi router.
There are two Windows laptops in use in the house at times, on the same WiFi, and also a Nintendo Wii. These do not have similar problems.
If I use system preferences : network : assist me : assistant, I can regain my internet connection. Sometimes I have to do this two or three times per hour. When I do this, my local IP address does not change. The WiFi signal is strong at all times. My wife must do the same thing to re-establish her iBook's internet connection over the WiFi.
I understand Apple cannot provide support related to third party products.
I have two questions.
First: What are the chances this problem will improve or disappear if I simply replace the WiFi router?
Second: What, exactly does network : Assist me : Assistant do? Is it possible to take the same actions manually, and separately, instead of depending on the "Assistant"? How do I do it?
I'm guessing that when I run the Assistant, the essential task I am accomplishing is re-entering the WiFi password. True? Is there a faster and easier way to do that?

From reading a related topic I think if you are used to a normal hiking GPS you will find the iPhone doesn't perform in the same fashion unless you can run an app that uses the GPS facility in this manner. For example, you have to constantly press a button to update your location, so if you're used to using a GPS like that you may have to make sure there's software that does that for you. -

I purchased the iPad mini Wi-Fi & Cell because it has GPS. OK, it is assisted GPS but the GPS works very well as stand alone. I got the iPad mini for use in flight, so I dont even have a sim card in it. The GPS works perfectly in flight under all conditions. I have cross checked it against typical approved aircraft installations and it is very accurate at all times. I use it in Wi-Fi mode on the ground when updating my aviation database, when planning a flight, or similar circumstances. The primary advantage of A-GPS is quick location reading when first turned on, when on the ground where the GPS satellites signal may be of reduced quality. At 10,000 feet plus, it is a stand alone GPS. I have frequently turned the iPad off in flight for periods of time and when powering up, it gave me accurate positioning in a few seconds, never exceeded 10 seconds. I have also tested my iPad on the ground, using the aviation maps, and the GPS works perfectly also.
It remains possible that there is some feature that enhances the GPS when on the ground, even if there is no sim card in the iPad. But I doubt that any of these would work in an aircraft at high altutide. Nonetheless, I would appreciate knowing more about this. -

This drive can be used in the event you cannot start your computer with the built-in Recovery HD, or you have replaced the hard drive with a new one that does not have Mac OS X installed.

It stores some tools (Disk Utility) to repair your drive and lets you connect to the app store to re-download the OS or restore it from a Time Machine backup. That's it.
And it will re-install or restore your system (OS), it will not touch your files. However,
NOTE: before doing anything like that, it is wise to have a complete backup - things can happen. -
What does "Ajax submit failed: error =403, Forbidden" mean? I can't sign in.
When I try to sign in to the hpeprintcenter I get the message "Ajax submit failed: error =403, Forbidden" What does this mean? What do I need to do. I can't sign in! I also can't get a new password. Even though I try, I get no response after hitting the "submit" link. I even tried to create a new account and it wouldn't let me do that. I'm stuck.

I just purchased an extreme. I have an express. The sales guy recommended setting up a hot spot with the express and use the extreme as a base station. What does he mean and how do I do this? What are the advantages? How do I set this up?????
I think he means to set up the main extreme as the main router or "main base station", and then use the express to "extend" the network.

Your plan sounds good to me, and yes, there could be some "intermittent" hardware failure causing the panics.
Before we go on, I want to establish that you should NEVER have a panic, provided you have three things:
1) Flawless hardware
2) A flawless installation (which is why we are "zeroing" and reinstalling)
3) No bad or conflicting kernel extension
To back this up, I will tell you that I have only had one KP on this machine, it was long ago, and it was due to a disk error (and thus a bad installation). Currently, my "uptime" is at 44 days, 13 1/2 hours, and I put this thing through its paces every day.
OK, well a 4th thing: Problematic peripherals.
Let's rule these out, one by one. Are you connecting anything that could cause panics, or is anything connected when they occur? No? Let's move on.
We are pretty sure we have ruled out a bad installation, and you are going to make double sure. Good.
Are you installing any third-party "haxies," or anything else that might place kernel extensions in the Extensions folder? Are you running the Migration Assistant to transfer stuff from a PPC machine? If you can rule this last one out, we are left with only one possibility...
HARDWARE! As I say, you should never have a single kernel panic. If you have narrowed it down to hardware, and they still occur, be firm! Insist, regardless of the results of any diagnostics, that you have a new machine, or a logic board/memory replacement. If necessary, escalate your case. Get this fixed, and get it fixed expeditiously.

Make sure all the orange packing material and the seal is removed from the toner and any packing material inside the printer. Here is a picture of the toner and the orange packing material that needs to be removed.
