What does "Authorize External Account" mean

I just had to send my notebook back to apple for repair. I was able to borrow a neighbors notebook for a few days (boy do I owe him big for that!).
Before I shipped it, I made a clone on an external FW800 drive, and boot his machine off that external drive, then unmount his internal HD to "keep it safe".
My question is this: Every time I restart, I get a dialog at the login screen that's titled "Authorize External Account", which says
Allow the external account, "<his userID>" from disk "<internal HD>" to access this computer?
What exactly does that mean. What happens if I say "yes" or "no" here?

This feature is proving incredibly annoying in a large education environment setting.
Our macs are dual partitioned with students authenticating via active directory.
Heres the scenario.
When a student logs out from partition 1 and leaves the mac the next student to attempt to log onto partition 2 recieves the following dialog.
Allow the external account, "<previous user's userID>" from disk "<internal HD>" to access this computer?
A potential breach of privacy as the students can find out who was using the mac last.
Has anyone found a way to disable this feature?

It's not documented anywhere (that I can easily find), and I've seen this message in Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard.

Yes I am experiencing the same problem. I have just started experimenting with the external accounts, and unfortunately I don't have a solution for you. The only work around I have found is to shutdown the computer before disconnecting the USB drive.
I have also noticed that if I plug in the USB drive at the login screen, the external account is displayed, and if I unplug the drive without logging in it does not give the error. I know this isn't a solution, but it may help point someone in the right direction.

I learned of this "downgrade" after I had the "upgraded" a few weeks. I believe Verizon's use of the term "Upgrade Your Device" is deceptive and a false promise. Verizon representatives refuse to recognize this "upgrade" as a "downgrade." I am stuck with a downgraded phone for more than another year before I can upgrade again without paying the full cost of a phone! So what does "Upgrade Your Device" mean when used on the Webpage of your Verizon Account?

The upgrade is that your new phone has a camcorder. Your old phone did not.
The word upgrade means to me getting a new phone that has features that my old phone didn't have and that i will actually use.

What does "rendering error -50" mean? I'm trying to export to an apple device (Itunes) and I've done it this way before but now I just get the error message. I'm not very technically savvy.

I had a bunch of video clips which I took on a point and shoot camera. They had been uploaded along with photos to Aperture, but putting the SD card directly into my computer. Every year I take all the clips, edit out the junk, and make a DVD for the kids and grandkids to enjoy. When in final cut, I just clicked on the camera to import from Aperture.
I also make DVD's though out the year of special events, using these same type of video clips taken with the point and shoot. I sometimes do slow motion set to music, etc. I have not had a problem before. And all the bad files came from one trip in October. All the files after it were fine as well. I'm not sure what I did differently for that trip.
The little video clips say DSCN1783 (or some other file number) and are 1920x1080. I try to "share" my project to a Master File on an external drive.

So are you talking about a Terminal session, or are you in single user mode?
What account are you logged in as?
What do you expect to see? Something like: computername:~ username$
I think you have a command prompt, so getting to the root directory would be as simple as
cd /
and
pwd
will tell you what directory you are currently in.
But Frank Caggiano is correct, you really do need to give a better description of what you are seeing, where you are seeing it, what you expect, and what it is you are trying to actually do.

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox. Try to delete the message again. If you still can't, continue.

Keep copies of messages for offline viewing
choose
Don't keep copies of any messages
Close the window and save the change. Relaunch Mail and test.

If your iPhone is locked to a wireless provider, only that wireless provider
can unlock it. Contact the wireless provider in Hong Kong to see if they
offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If your iPhone is locked to an AppleID that you do not know, return it for
a refund as it is useless. Only the person whose AppleID was used for
activation can remove the lock. There is no workaround for Activation Lock.
If neither of the above is what you are facing, provide more detail so someone

Can anyone tell me how these get there? Can a website be posted even if it was never went to? What does the space amount mean? For example, 1.5 kb...is this quite a bit? Would it indicate someone has gone to a site multiple times?
I share my ipad with my teenage daughter and I'm trying to find out if she's lying to me. Obviously she's swearing that she has "no idea" how these got there and I'm trying to keep her safe (she's only 14).

Think of your PC and the 'temporary internet folder' where it keeps cached copies of web pages or elements off a web page for 'quicker display the next time you visit'. That's pretty much what that folder is. 1.5K is tiny. Probably just a basic page with some text on it. (you might be confusing 1.5K with 1.5 megabyte....megabyte is large...it's roughly 1000 kilobytes, so the 1.5K is a tiny file)
As far as I know, the only way info gets into that folder is if the browser has been to that site.
if you have a concern there are browsers out there, McGruff is one i've seen recommended, that allow some degree of parental control and supervision. That or you could passcode lock the iPad or enable the restrictions to turn off some parts of the device to have some control.

I have many photos that are visible as thumbnails in the Pictures Library, however when I try to open them in a big screen they show a back screen with an exclamation mark in a triangle. What does this exclamation mark mean ?

The exclamation make is an indication that iPhoto has broken the file path to the original photo.
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Could be many things, we should start with this...

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

What application is set to open PDF files? If you CNTRL click on the file and open with Preview does the problem occur?
If not change the default application to open PDF files to Preview.
You can do this by highlighting the file and either use CMD i or Get Info , this will open a window with the info on the file with an option to change the application that opens the file.
That's all I can think of.

I believe what it's supposed to mean is that some changes were made to the document on another device, and those changes were saved back to the cloud. Now you've opened iWork on a different device to access that document - it compares the document you've got locally with the one in the could, sees some recent changes and downloads them.
What gets me is why this sometimes happens even when I've not made any changes to a document from another device.
