What does bluetooth do?

What does bluetooth do on my mbp?

There are all sorts of Bluetooth accessories available - mice, keyboards, headphones, etc. I have a set of Bluetooth headphones and an 'old' Apple Mighty Mouse, for instance. You can also use Bluetooth with some wireless printers.
It's found on even the 'dumbest' phones now to support wireless headsets, etc. You may never need it and, if you do, it's there for you.

  • What does connecting iPad mini to my Mac Mini  through Bluetooth do

what does connecting iPad mini to my Mac Mini  through Bluetooth do

There is nothing else you can do as regards the Mac. Bluetooth between a Mac and an iOS device works only for tethering so you can share the iOS device's cell connection. Otherwise, Bluetooth in an iPad is for connecting to peripherals such as headsets, in-car systems, and keyboards.

  • Favorites within Bluetooth - what does it mean?

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out what something does on my iPhone. This may be with either the 3G or 3GS because I think it has more to do with the OS.
If you go in to General/Bluetooth/Handsfree Link (what my Acura MDX uses to connect as a phone) What does Phone Favorites (on/off) and Phone Recents (on/off) mean? I don't think this displays my recent calls or my favorite numbers on the display for my car.
I brought my car into the dealership today and I was having some trouble dialing the number with my phone and then using the bluetooth connection to work. She flipped the switch with Phone Favorites on/off and then I was able to use the "HandsFreeLink" to make an outgoing call.
I don't think this is what fixed my problem, but I really don't know what those two features are for. Does any one else?
    Thanks!
    Natalie

Perhaps you could try this to resolve your issue:
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.

  • How do I know what my bluetooth password is?

How do I find out what my bluetooth password is?

For what?  Some BT accesories will give the pairing code that you need to enter on the iPOd.  The iPod does not have any BT passsword.  Here are the pairing instructions from the Users Guide
Pair a Bluetooth headset, car kit, or other device with iPod touch:
1 Follow the instructions that came with the device to make it discoverable or to set it to search for
    other Bluetooth devices.
2 Go to Settings > General > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
3 Choose the device on iPod touch, and enter its passkey or PIN number. See the instructions about
the passkey or PIN that came with the device.
After you pair headphones with iPod touch, the product name and  appear on the screen when
you are viewing audio or video playback controls. Tap  to switch to a different audio output,
    such as the internal speaker.
Just what are you tryng to pair the iPod with?  You can't pair with a computer or phone (except BT tethering with an iPhone for internet service if you supscribed to the tethering plan on the iPone.

  • MacBook Woke Up By Itself - What does this error message mean?

My MacBook woke itself up today. First time this has happened to me. I can see from the Console Log that it's due to a USB disconnect, but I can't see anything that's disconnected. Everything appears to be working, so I'm not sure what's up. Here's the log snippet. Can someone tell me what the error codes mean?
    6/4/10 1:18:00 PM kernel Wake reason = UHC4 EHC2
6/4/10 1:18:00 PM kernel System Wake
6/4/10 1:18:00 PM kernel Previous Sleep Cause: 5
    6/4/10 1:18:00 PM kernel USB (EHCI):Port 1 on bus 0xfa connected or disconnected: portSC(0x101803)
6/4/10 1:18:00 PM kernel An Unknown USB Device (Port 1 of Hub at 0xfa000000), may have caused a wake by being connected
6/4/10 1:18:00 PM kernel The USB device IOUSBWirelessControllerDevice (Port 1 of Hub at 0x1a000000) may have caused a wake by being disconnected
    What does Wake reason = UHC4 EHC2 mean? I can't find a meaning for UHC4 and EHC2 online.
Also, Based on the description "IOUSBWirelessControllerDevice" sounds like it would have something to do with the wifi on my MacBook, but that appears to be fine. Any ideas on what hub 0xfa is? Is that an internal USB connection? Any ideas where "Port 1 of Hub at 0x1a000000" is located?
    Thanks again

This is the part that matters.
Unfortunately, a number of the MacBook's internal components (keyboard, iSight, USB ports themselves) are on the same USB bus. This means if any one of these components is disturbed somehow, the machine may wake from sleep. As far as I know, there is no easy way to figure out which specific device woke the machine.
Be sure to disconnect all external devices, and try turning off Bluetooth, to see if the computer continues to wake from sleep.

  • I moved my Mac and am trying to set things up again.  The computer detected the wireless mouse immediately, but does not find the keyboard.  What does "discoverable"  mean?  The keyboard is turned on.  Don't know what  else to do.

I have just moved and am setting up my Mac again.  It immediately found the mouse but cannot seem to find the wireless keyboard.  What does it mean to be discoverable?  The keyboard is on with blinking green light, but the computer can't seem to find it.  What do I do?

What does it mean to be discoverable?
    Open System Preferences > Bluetooth
Make sure On and Discoverable are both selected.

On my IPhone 5s, there is a symbol at the top of the screen and it looks like a circle with a lock inside. What does it mean and how do I remove it?

You mean the Control Center.  As was said ...slide up with your thumb from the home button and a gray box should open (i.e. Control Center).  There you can turn the orientation lock Off or On.  You can also use the Flashlight or turn Bluetooth on or off, and other functions.

  • IPhone update what does it fix?

What does the update for the iPhone fix?

As noted, those are just the -security- fixes contained.
The bug fixes were not described.
I can verify they have worked on Bluetooth and Wi-fi compatibility. My car connected and dropped repeatedly with 1.0, not so with 1.0.1. My Wi-fi at work wouldn't accept my WEP key as ASCII, it now does after the upgrade.
It'd be nice if they'd publish a changelog but I suspect that it would be gigantic as they've had probably roughly 2 months to work on it since they went gold for production ramp-up.

Looking in the settings->apps->all I see aptx notifier installed. What does it do? Am i supposed to see some notification when my bluetooth is successfully using aptx? Is there any way at all to know if bluetooth audio is currently using aptx? Any way to see what codec and bitrate were negotiated?
    Thank you.
