What does "Build" mean in OS X Mavericks 10.9.2?

Like
Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Build 13C53?
Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Build 13C39?
Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Beta Build 13C48?
Does it mean previous releases?
Like what they have in Wikipedia
Snapshot

What SilverSkyRat said.
In addtion, the software developers, internal test groups, outside beta testers need to be able to report problems and specify a specific nightly build, so that the developer can go back to that version and verify what changes went into that build that might have caused the problem.
It also allows internal testers and beta testers a way to know that the version they are running is older (newer) then another version that is being offered for testing.
It also allows developers to tell all testers that they should NOT install a specific build, if it is discovered that it is a bad build.
Essentally, the development process needs a way to communicate what nightly build is what, and be able to associate bugs during development with a specific build.
And generally that build number can be used to get the exact sources from a source code control system that was used to create that build.
The same as SilverSkyRat, I do not know the exact process inside Mac OS X development, but what SilverSkyRat and I have described is what I've experienced at several different software development companies which develop Unix operating systems and Unix software for sale.
And finally, the build numbers you see in your released Mac OS X version, is just the build number where they decided to declare Golden Master for shipping to customers.

Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Note the two digits for the Model Identifier displayed in the main panel. Compare with:
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

The above are examples of flawed logic.
Seriously now. Since you obviously don't know what a Combo Update is, I will tell you. A Combo Update is short for a COMBINATION of Updates. That means that there is MORE THAN ONE update in a Combo Update. It is, therefore, quite proper to speak of "one of the Combo Updates". For people whose first language is not English and are not familiar with its subtle nuances, perhaps I should have said "One of the updates contained within the Combo Update was"
"There aren't "versions" of the combo update, unless Apple releases a revision"?
This is plain silly. It means "There aren't versions unless there are"
Also I didn't use the word "version". See above for the explanation of what I DID say.
Are you one of those TROLLS I keep hearing about?
I hope you got a lot of phoney Help points for not actually helping.
Don't bother replying, I won't come back to this thread, so I wont see it. Of course you'll get another phoney Help point, so I suppose you will, but I'll never know. Doesn't that mess with your head?
    Bye Bye
    What an attitude you have.
Erase your drive and reinstall correctly, stop messing about with incremental patches. The routine you need is BERR (backup, erase, reinstall, restore) or just stay as yu are, it is entirely up to you.

The depth of your ignorance shows here, there are no phoney points, only ones awarded by posters who receive solutions, and only at the original posters choice.

Mavericks is not recognizing the .smi extension - on my Mac it thinks it's a RealPlayer document. You are not going to be able to do anything with this - it requires AppleWorks to be present to be updated, and you can't run AppleWorks on Mavericks (other than by the rather roundabout process of installing Snow Leopard Server in Parallels and installing AppleWorks on that, as described here).

    This I Mac is OS X version 10.9.5 Maverick, 2.7GHz Intel Core 15 processor, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory.

Your older iTunes music purchases included DRM software to prevent sharing.

  • What does it mean to be "thread safe"?

What does it mean to be "thread safe"?
I am working with a team on a project here at work. Someone here suggested that we build all of our screens during the initialization of the application to save time later. During the use of the application, the screens would then be made visible or invisible.
One of the objections to that idea was that the swing components (many of which we use) are not thread safe. Can anyone tell me what the relevance of that is?
    Thanks

To understand why Swing is not thread safe you have to understand a little bit of history, and a little bit of how swing actually works. The history(short version) is that it is nearly impossible to make a GUI toolkit thread safe. X is thread safe(well, sorta) and it's a really big mess. So to keep things simple(and fast) Swing was developed with an event model. The swing components themselves are not thread safe, but if you always change them with an event on the event queue, you will never have a problem. Basically, there is a Thread always running with any GUI program. It's called the awt event handler. When ever an event happens, it goes on an event queue and the event handler picks them off one by one and tells the correct components about it. If you have code that you want to manipulate swing components, and you are not ON the awt thread(inside a listener trail) you must use this code.
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater( new Runnable() {
      public void run() {
// code to manipulate swing component here
});This method puts the defined runnable object on the event queue for the awt thread to deal with. This way changes to the components happen in order, in a thread safe way.

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

  • Console warning - what does this mean?

    Help!
I installed 10.3.9 and thought I had done everything correctly. However, when I was using Safari on the jigsaw.com website, the fan started racing at a very high speed.
Not knowing much about computers, but having read MANY posts, I looked at the console log and found the following:

    Me too.
I'm playing an iTunes video that I downloaded and is in my movies folder, then the AUDIO/VIDEO synchronization mismatch.  I check Console and get "iTunes AVF Warning:  retireCmdAsynch ....q size = 12, releasing oldest CVPixelBuffer"
Which now that I read it, makes sense with symptom.  "Asynch"  "PixelBuffer"
Problem is, I don't know how to solve this issue.  It doesn't happen on every video, but would appreciate some sighted advice.

  • Multiple JVMs - What does it mean

    Hello,
I was trying to understand this for quite a while. Googling around just obscured the use of the term.

  • My MacBook has a grey screen with a folder and a question mark in the middle what does this mean?

My MacBook has a grey screen with a folder and a question mark in the middle what does this mean?

It means a valid system cannot be found. You need to reinstall OS X.
    If you have Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you have Lion or later:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My computer is macbook white with iOS 10. 6.8, will i able to use the new Airport Time Capsule 2TB and what does it mean administrate the Airport Time Capsule 2TB ?

my computer is macbook white with Mac OS X (10. 6.8), will i able to use the new Airport Time Capsule 2TB and work properly with Time Capsule on my computer to back up wirelessly?
And what does it mean "to administrate" because it was written in requirement of the Airport Time Capsule 2TB ?

You must use a Mac running Lion (10.7.5), Mountain Lion or Mavericks to be able to set up the Time Capsule and make any changes to the settings.
A recent version iPhone or iPad could also be used for this task.
From the Specifications on the Time Capsule:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3

  • What does this mean? I cloud button said-.

What does this mean? When i click on i-cloud button on the top of window, it said: I-cloud automatically shows all the open tabs on the other device.
    Thank.

    Hi Susan,
    I am afraid not.
I have the same iCloud ID on both the Mac and the iPhone.
I have the Safari item enabled in iCloud on both.
The cloud button does not work on the Mac and has only once worked on the iPhone.
Currently I can see neither device's open tabs one the other.
    EDIT !!!!
    Found it.
In that first pic (above but today's date) is a Private button.
It needs disabling for the Mac to "see" the iPhone's tabs
THEN the use the Double Squares and flick up the tabs which will then reveal the linked Computer (or other Device I presume
    Example on Mac.
The Privacy button is not mentioned in the Link and it was only chance that I pressed it to see what it did.

What does it mean when it says my start up disk is full?
What do I need to do to reduce or empty it?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • I got the message "4403D" when I tried to startup while pressing "Option D" keys while starting up. What does this mean?

I have a Macbook purchased in 2009. I am running Mavericks, which has caused several programs to stop opening (Calendar, Quicktime...) so I have been trying several things to fix it. One thing is to try to do a Apple Hardware Test over the internet. In order to do this I need to restart my computer while pressing the option and D keys.
When I did so I got the message "4403D". I had to hold the power button down to turn off the computer in order to restart normally so I can use it.
What does this mean? And how do I fix the programs?

Can you provide the link of the website on which you are having problems ??
