What does Cannot get mail The connection to the server failed mean?
How can I access my mail - when I try a messages stating 'Cannot get mail - The connection to the server failed'
I dont know what to do!
Usually there is not a password, SSL is set wrong, the server name is wrong, or the Port is wrong.
Go toSettings > Mail, Contacts,Calendars, then the Mail Account and see if the Incoming Server is some form of STP server specified, then that a password is set, and the if that is all correct go to Advanced and see how SSL is set.

Although my email messages are still being downloaded to my iPhone 6, I recently started to systematically get the following error message: "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed."
What could be the cause of this error, which only appeared after updating the iOS to 8.3.

My iphone 4S was not able to fetch mails from the server ( outgoing and incoming)
I was trying to configure my exchange account and follow all the procedures correctly but am having trouble in sending and receiving mails as the error says " cant get mails cannot connect to the server? where seems to be the problem?
Have read from the support services that if you using a Pop3 account into another device which I did ( my email was configured via outlook for mac in my macbook) there might be a lock out problem and cannot get emails on the second device which is my iphone? I am able to both pair and connect my one one Macbook to my other one, but I can only pair but not connect my iPhone or iPad to either Macbook. So I have the same problem. But I can pair and connect my Macbooks to other Bluetooth devices, like my ancient Nokia cellfone, or my Bluetooth HP printer.
It's irrelavent that I can instead use a direct USB cable or Wi Fi between my Macbooks and my iPhone/iPad - why can't I use Bluetooth? If Apple does not allow Bluetooth between it's Macbooks and other Mac devices, then why have Bluetooth at all? Does my iPhone have Bluetooth only so that I can pair and connect to my my non Apple mobile handsfree car kit, or communicate easily with the dreaded Apple enemy Samsung, or what?
Make no mistake , I am a diehard Apple fan, but this Bluetooth non compatibility issue appears shortsighted and seemingly pointless. Why does Apple not just say why they created the non compatibility, or have a message on the Bluetooth setup programme which simply and clearly says "don't bother wasting hours of your time trying to pair and connect your iPhone to your Macbook, because we don't allow that anymore, reason being that............"?
As a first time user of this Forum I am surprised at the intolerant and highhanded tone of some of the replies to what is a legitimate question, that is obviously plagueing many, many other Apple users. -
Cannot get a home connection and the speaker icon illuminates each time
I cannot get a reception at home sometimes. When this happens, the speaker icon illuminates. Is this Apples way of idenfiying the problem.
I start to appologise that is was not the `speaker` icon, but the earphone icon, that was illuminating when my iphone4 would not work. Now, thanks to info from a contributor the problem has been resoved. The problem appears to have been caused by small grit or other tiny matter getting into the earphone jack. After several unsuccesful attempts to clear it by inserting the ear jack, I left the jack in overnight. Problem solved! Many, many thanks .

Can't get MAIl to connect to Onetel server
Both my wife's (MacBook) and my IMac will not connect to the Onetel POP outgoing server - we get error message
+OK rslrimap1msp All emails need to go out using gmail or MobileMe. The incoming is OK.
It has not always been this way only in the past year and I wonder if it is a problem with upgrading software. If I use WebMail it is OK and Onetel have checked everything and say that there is nothing they can do - very frustrating.
I have recently upgraded to OS 10.7.3 but this has not solved the problem. Is there anyway that I can reload MAIL? - or is there any other solution. The settings work prefect on our iphone.Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
Hotspot problems. Cannot get computer to connect all the time - any help?
I use hotspot to connect my pc. Sometimes it shows as a poor signal. Any suggestions? I live in the country so have limited options.

Overnight both my hotmail accounts on my Iphone 4s, through Mail, have stopped working and I cannot access my email. Every time I try I get the message "Cannot get Mail. Connection to the Server Failed"
I have rebooted my phone, deleted and readded the accoutns and even reset my network settings to factory seeting but nothing works. A few hours ago it randomly started working again but has since stopped.
Please Help!!!Contact Microsoft to see if Hotmail is having any issues.

Google Apps (paid) cannot get mail
I pay for Google Apps for Business, which includes sync. It has worked great on my 4S and iPad. My Google Apps dashboard has enabled all mobile devices. Today I got a 5S and when I set it up (correctly) I keep getting the dreaded "Cannot get mail. Connection to the server failed." message. I am losing my mind, have tried everything but it wont work and I am forced to set it up as a regular free gmail account (no sync, no push email) instead of an Exchange account. To repeat, I pay for Google Apps for Business. Please folks I am desperate!

Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server failed. iPhone 3GS & Hotmail
I've got an iPhone 3GS and I'm using Hotmail.
I'm geting the same error message over and over - "Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server failed.". Out of the blue it started on my phone, but then the email worked again for a day after, and then quit working again. I've tried deleting and adding it as a new account. I tried to go back to what might have in-part caused the problem, and the only thing I had done over the weekend was to turn iCloud on and start backing up to it, but the e-mail did work after that for a couple days. I've tried a couple different Hotmail accounts to see if it was a corrupt e-mail in one account, but both accounts give me the same "Cannot Get Mail" response. Creating the "TEMP" folder on Hotmail and moving e-mails there did not work.
Could anyone spell out in layman's (non-IT) terms what I might be able to try?Who is the provider? Do you have two-step verification turned on? Did they change something on their end?

On my iPad 3, "Cannot Get Mail....The connection to the server failed" .... This is the message I get when I try to retrieve or send an email. My wifi is connected and has a strong signal. Safari works well. If anyone has the solution to this problem...please help! I have not received any email since Oct. 13th. My mail is coming thru on my cellphone and laptop just not my iPad 3. Any suggestions??
What kind of mail account is it? e.g. yahoo, hotmail, gmail etc.
Also it sounds like an issue with the incoming mail server so as Lawrence Finch kindly suggested make sure all settings are correct. -

Check your username, password and account settings for that email account.
If they all look right, then try deleting the account, and re-adding it. -
