What does CC 2014 Resample: Automatic do?

For a long time I assumed that the Automatic option for resizing chose Bicubic Sharper or Bicubic Smoother depending on whether you were reducing or enlarging the image.
Today I noticed that this is not true.  Upsizing to 200% via Bicubic Smoother produces a slight stippling in some areas, while upsizing via Automatic produces very little stippling in the same areas.  Automatic may be equivalent of Preserve Details with some level of the Reduce Noise slider.  Does anyone know?
Myron

That is what I read and its Adobe default option.  I changes that in CS6 Photoshop preference because my scripts crash  with an internal Photoshop Error.  Adobe failed to add support for it in cs6 scripting. They have since fixed that bug in the subscription versions of Photoshop.  However it not a good default for it you reduce the size of an image that has been sharpened Bicubic sharper is not what you want to use.

Free Transform and Image Size Resampling Enhancements in Photoshop CS6
In Photoshop CS6, the Free Transform command will automatically choose the best resampling method based on the transformation made. If the image is scaled up in size, then Photoshop will use Bicubic Smoother, if the image is scaled down in size, then it will use Bicubic Sharper.  If for some reason you wanted to override this setting, while in Free Transform, you can change the Interpolation option using the drop down menu in the Options bar.
In addition, when dragging the transformation handles, the transformation values appear at the top right of your cursor. This display can be controlled via Preferences > Interface > Show Transformation Values (Top Right, Top Left, Bottom Right, Bottom Left or Never). Because the calculations that are taking place when using Free Transform have been moved to the GPU, there shouldn’t be any lag time when dragging the transformation handles.
The “Bicubic Automatic” option is also available when resampling an image using Image > Image Size. And of course you can still change the default option for resampling throughout Photoshop (if desired) under Preferences > General > Image Interpolation.

What does it mean that "my iphone will no longer back up to my computer automatically when I sync with itunes", if I turn my icloud backup to "on"? This doesnt sound like something that will make things smoother? I just recently lost all my calendar events and I am hoping to recover them.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can either back up to iTunes or to iCloud, you you choose to back up to iCloud, back up to iTunes will be turned off. Personally, I'd always back up to iTunes unless there is a good reason not to you.

  • What does "Automatic Retrieval" do under email dow...

    Hi there
on my nokia 6303, under my downloading settings for my email, i have various settings:
    Retrieve mode
    Retrieval amount
    Mailbox update interval
    Automatic retrieval
I can set mailbox update interval to say 30 minutes or 1 hour or so and the phohne will check for new emails at that interval and report any new ones.
But what does the "automatic retrieval" function do? When i set it to on or off it seems to make no difference. Does anyone know specifically how I should set this?
    many thanks

no one know what this setting does?  it seems like a lot of people have it activated here.

  • What does Lync automatic/Manual Failover between sites

    Hi,
I have 2 Lync sites. Each site has one FE pool with 3 FE servers. Each Pool has dedicated one BE server
I configured backup pool relationship with each other. no Enterprise voices in my Lync infra.
I would like to know what Lync does exactly when Lync automatic failover while one site goes unexpected down?
will users gets their contacts after moving another site pool?
    also
I would like to know what Lync does when we do Lync manual failover while one site goes for maintanence?
Will user gets their contacts after moving another site pool??
    Thanks

You need to have the CMS available as it's the repository that stores the topology, configurations and policies. If the pool that hosts the CMS goes down you must failover the CMS before you can failover the pool. Presence information and contacts is not
    part of the CMS.
Fail Site B, you'll see that users are in limited mode until you run the pool failover commands even though Site A has the CMS.

DONT WORRY EVERYONE, FOUND THE ANSWER I NEEDED FROM ANOTHER POSTING - THANK YOU

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to do anything, you have chosen to back up to iCloud instead of iTunes.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

    - If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
    - You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer.
    - If still problems see:

  • What does this mean? I cloud button said-.

What does this mean? When i click on i-cloud button on the top of window, it said: I-cloud automatically shows all the open tabs on the other device.
    Thank.

    Hi Susan,
    I am afraid not.
I have the same iCloud ID on both the Mac and the iPhone.
I have the Safari item enabled in iCloud on both.
The cloud button does not work on the Mac and has only once worked on the iPhone.
Currently I can see neither device's open tabs one the other.
    EDIT !!!!
    Found it.
In that first pic (above but today's date) is a Private button.
It needs disabling for the Mac to "see" the iPhone's tabs
THEN the use the Double Squares and flick up the tabs which will then reveal the linked Computer (or other Device I presume
    Example on Mac.
The Privacy button is not mentioned in the Link and it was only chance that I pressed it to see what it did.

  • In relation to Wireless Speakers, what does 'Connected Music Server' mean?

    Hello All,
Need some advise. I am looking at purchasing a Wireless speaker. I currently have a MacBook Pro 10.8 which has my music stored in iTunes. My phone is an Android 4.2.2 device.
Therefore, I need to buy a wireless speaker that supports AirPlay (aka stream music from my MacBook Pro) and also has an app that I can install on my Android device which can threby access the iTunes playlist so that I can use my phone as the remote control.
Based on the above requirements, I narrowed down my chocie to the Denon Cocoon Home (whose app is also Deno Cocoon) and the Pioneer A4 XW-SMA4-K (whose app is Pioneer ControlApp)
    Question 1:
    The Denon App says this:
    - When connected to your home Wi-Fi network you can further expand your choice of music by using the Music Server to browse and play all the music that is stored on your PC, Mac or Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive.
    - DRM protected music is NOT supported by the Denon Cocoon app (or any 3rd party music app)
My question what does one mean by a 'connected music server?' If an AirPlay speaker receives iTunes music, does it automatically become a 'connected music server?' Technically, is music in my iTunes app (some purchased from iTunes store, some imported) considered DRM protected music? Can ithe app read the iTunes music given the above contraint?
    Question 2:
The Pioneer App has a lot of complicated lingo that says:
    Network Audio Player
    - Browse and select music files on your connected music server
    AV Receiver
    - Browse and select music files on your connected music server
    Network CD Receiver System
    - Browse and select music files on your connected music server
    Wireless Speaker
    - Volume up/down
    - Select Internet Radio Stations
    - PUSH PLAYER
It uses one app for multiple devices and in the app description has a breakdown for what the app supports for every device. Now the 'connected music server' is not mentioned in 'Wireless Speaker' but the same is mentioned in 'Network Audio Player' so what does that mean?
I am more veered towards the Pioneer speaker as it costs $100 less and has better reviews but I will go with the one that will aloow me to use my Android phone as a remote control to access the music that the speaker is streaming from my MacBook pro.

  • HT201250 What does it mean to "partition" an external hard drive? Is it something that I want to do?

What does it mean to "partition" the external hard drive?  Is it something I want to do?  How do I save files from another hard drive to the new one?  I have to reformat the old one as it was not set up correctly.  The drive I have is Seagate but not specifically for MAC, so I have to format it.. never have done this before. Don't know the jargon.  I read that Time Machine will back up automatically but I want to take files from the old drive to the new one.  Do I have to take them to the computer first and then to the new drive?  I need more memory on my computer. It's way too cluttered and congested.  HELP!

Whoa! Slow donw. TRhere's a lot here. I would suggest you buy a good book on computers in general or macs in particular, one is "OSX the missing manual".
What does it mean to "partition" the external hard drive?
It means you take one large drive and make it into more than one volume. This means that it might show up as 2,3 or 4 inde[pendenmt drives. Each one could have, for example, a different operating system on it. Its  a good thing to do if you want to use a drive for several purposes
Is it something I want to do?
beats me, you didnt way what you're trying to accomplish. Sorta like sking "should i turn left?"  Depends on where you want to go.
How do I save files from another hard drive to the new one?
See advice n book above. Copy them in finder. Copy them in unix. Use a backup or sync utility. No different from Windows in that respect.
I have to reformat the old one as it was not set up correctly.  The drive I have is Seagate but not specifically for MAC, so I have to format it.. never have done this before. Don't know the jargon.
Hook it up. Run disk utility. Partition 1 or more partions. GUID map.  Format each partition Mac OS extended, Journaled.  for more, read book, above.  Seriously - we could give you more tips, but you really should learn enough to be comnfident.
I read that Time Machine will back up automatically but I want to take files from the old drive to the new one.  Do I have to take them to the computer first and then to the new drive?
I have no idea what you are asking.
I need more memory on my computer. It's way too cluttered and congested.  HELP!
What kind of memory and why?  RTAM? Hard drive space? Explain. By the time you are done explaining, i suspect you will have ansered your own question.
    Good luck,
Have you read the PDF manual for your cmputer?
Have you used a search engine to look for info, for example, in two seconds i got this from google and wikipedia:

  • What does "You do not have sufficient access privileges" mean?

    Hello Gurus!
I am wondering what does "You do not have sufficient access privileges" mean? I have a G$ with 2 internal hard drives. One has OSX 10.3.9 loaded on it and the other has OSX 10.4.7 loaded on it. When I boot up in 10.4.7 and try to access (open or copy) anything in the the desktop, documents, library, movies, music or pictures folders in my user folder on the 10.3.9 disk, it tells me that "I do not have sufficient access privileges"! This is a single user machine and it automatically logs in as me... the administrator. I tried to look at Apple's technical documents regarding permissions and privileges, but it is very confusing with all of it's terminal commands and lingo. Does anyone know an easy (and hopefully GUI) way around this problem?
    Thanks Much,
    Mark

If you have a different system on each HD then you do not have a single user machine. The user on one system/boot volume is not the same user as the one on the other, even if they ahve the same name and password. If you boot from the 10.3 volume, you can select your user folder, go to File-Get Info, and change the access for others to read and write and click on the apply to enclosed items button. You should then be able to boot from the other system and move stuff around as you see fit. Of course, this is not a terribly secure state to leave your system in, as anyone who can gain access to your Mac can get at everything on your 10.3 home folder.
If you try this route, I'd suggest doing it only long enough to move everything to one home folder and then revert the access privs to the way they were.
