    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

    Basically, someone who prepared the PDF or an image in it used a magic trick that could cause it to print differently from how it is on screen.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    The required resource cannot be found: This alert message occurs when your device has a newer version of iOS than what is available in iTunes. When troubleshooting a device that presents this alert message, go to Settings > General > About and check the version of iOS on the device. • What does error 4450 mean when burning a cd?

    When burning a cd I get a message  (burn cancelled unknown reason  error 4450.  What does that mean

    I also got this 4450 error message when burning a CD in itunes. After searching the internet for answers, I found one that worked for me. The problem was that I tried to write 70 minutes of music to the CD. This is the rated capacity. However, the actual working capacity is closer to 65 minutes. The outer edge of the CD can be flakey and causes errors when writing there. After limiting my CD's to 65 minutes, the 4450 error disappeared.
    Hope that helps.

  • What does $ (NOT $_) mean when used by itself?

    For replacing User attributes with values of other attributes of that same User, I discovered the following script online:
    get-aduser User1 -pr supvid, manager | %{set-aduser -identity $_.samaccountname -Replace @{SupvID=$(get-aduser ($_.manager) | %{$_.samaccountname})}
    I have 2 questions about the script:
    1. What does the "$" mean when used outside the parenthesis - "$(get-aduser...)"
    2. Is this the best way to replace attributes with the values of other attributes for an object?

    Hi,
    Here's an example that will illustrate the benefit of the subexpression operator:
    $user = Get-ADUser User1
    Write-Host "Here's without a subexpression: $user.SamAccountName"
    Write-Host "Here's with a subexpression: $($user.SamAccountName)"
    As for your second question, I'd go about what you're doing like this (really just because it's easier to read, IMHO):
    $user = Get-ADUser -Identity User1 -Properties Manager
    $supvID = (Get-ADUser -Identity $user.Manager).SamAccountName
    Set-ADUser -Identity $user -Replace @{SupvID = $supvID}
