What does Directory Server offer over OpenLDAP

We need to deploy an LDAP solution that out of the gate has HA functionality in a mission critical environment.
I was wondering what Directory Server offers over OpenLDAP and other LDAP deployments.
We will not be using this for authentication, but merely a lookup to see if an account exists. Our mail servers will query LDAP to confirm an account exists before accepting the mail. So we will be doing 5,000 - 50,000 queries an hour (with a 10-15 minute caching) against a pair of LDAP servers to query if the email record exists on our system. Down the road we may add other functionality but right now the requirement is very simple but up time is critical as this can be a point of failure for incoming mail.

Sun Directory Server Enterprise Edition contains more than just an LDAP Server. It is a complete Directory Service solution.
It has a complete set of documentation and various levels of supports are offered.
Feature-wise, Multi-Master Replication offers high-availability with very limited down-time, disaster recovery.
DSEE does scale to hundreds of millions of entries and many tens of thousands of requests per seconds.
It is used in many industries (Banking, Telco, Automobile...) for user authentication, security, profiles and much more.

Ludovic.

  • What does OSX server offer over OSX ?

I see the documentation on Server, but am a little confused - I guess I've been subjected to Windoze too long ...
OSX provides ftpd, PHP server, httpd, Apache server, ...
    Is this correct?
So plain old OSX has some pretty substantial server functions, as compared to WinXP vs WinXP server. Plain old WinXP does not even have ftpd.
I guess I am somewhat confused, and my real concern is does plain old OSX really provide the basic server functions mentioned above out-of-the-box?
    Thanks

LCDS stands for LiveCycle Data Services. If you have worked with BlazeDS then it would be easy to understand LCDS. In Flex several times it is required to do Database Interaction/Operations. At that time either we can use HttpServices, WebServices or RemoteObjects. RemoteObject gives best performance of all three as it communicates with flex client in Binary Format (aka AMF). So BlazeDS & LCDS both enable flex clients to connect with Java RemoteObjects. Beside remote objects both also support Messaging Service (real time data push).

  • When is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 released, and what does 2.0 offer?

We are running Prime Infrastructure 1.3 primarily for wireless management at this point.  We have enough licenses to add all our switches, routers, and firewalls, but we're hesitant to do so until 2.0 comes out.  While there are some features for backing up and configuring switches and routers, 1.3 still seems pretty limited in regards to non-wireless features.  For example, nearly every report in 1.3 is for wireless controllers or AP's, there are no reports I've found relevent for switches and routers.  I've read a lot of blogs, cisco posts, and white papers talking about how Cisco Prime Infrastrucure 2.0 will finally consolidate Prime into a truly all-in-one network management suite that can manage the entire Cisco environment.  Does anyone know when it's officially being released?  Does anyone have an tech sheets on what's new in 2.0, or what its capabilities are?  I want to better understand what 2.0 has to offer, when it's coming out, how to upgrade, so I can start planning for the upgrade and eventually importing all our network devices to Cisco Prime for centralized management.  Any useful information or links would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Christian

PI 2.0 is in Beta mode for testing in closed group already. However it may still take some time to get released on CCO for FCS.
I think it is expected to be released between aug-sep. BU has also started working on CPI 2.1, which you can see test uploads on CCO.
For what does it have for customers?
    > As Cisco have a vision of one network Management software for both wired and wireless infrastructure, which started getting real partially with Cisco PI.
As WCS got evolved to NCS and eventually to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, but it doesnt yet have full Management capability for wired infra., which is there with LMS.
With CPI 2.x Cisco plans to blend entire LMS and WCS features together.
    -Thanks

  • On my MBP, what does the uppercase number over calendar represent?

I'm running the latest version of Mountain Lion (10.8.2).  I have Calendar in my Dock.  In the upper right of the calendar icon is a red circle with a number (4 in this case) in it.  What does that signify?
When I look at my calendar I have three marked sections:  "On my Mac", iCloud, and Subscriptions.  Each section has 4 calendars.  The number I seen on the icon (4) is shown next to a calendar I have under the iCloud section.  When I right click on that calendar I can change Sharing setting, and get Info, but nothing changes the displayed number 4.
    Thoughts?
    Tnx

The Sun ONE Directory Server Resource Kit 5.2.1 is supported on the

  • Does Directory Server 5.1 Work on XP

Dumb question, but I am having trouble installing Directory Server 5.1 on a windows XP box.
I am getting the following errors:
1.Setup is Unable to store information in the LDAP Directory.
2.Unable to Create Administration Server Configuration.
    3. Could not authenticate LDAP connection, "Unknown Error".
4.Setups post-install mode failed for the subcomponent admin belong to the component admin. Do you wish to continue.
In short a lot of errors. It worked fine on one of my windows 2000 boxes.
Please help. I am sorry to sound a bit dumb, but I am a programmer LDAP enabling an application, not a sytem or directory administrator.
    TIA
    Jeremy Hartley

As far as I know XP is a workstation OS not a server OS.
Directory SERVER is only supported on NT 4 and Windows 2000 (besides all kind of Unixes of course).

  • What does DW CC have over DW CS6?

I am trying to make a decision which one to invest in. CC means a lifetime subscription and there needs to be significant reasons to choose that over a solid copy that is paid for once, does the job, and will work on my system (Mac using Maverick).
So what reasons are there for choosing CC over CS6? Performace? Features? Stability? Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

CS6 (DW 12) was released in 2012 and it is the last version that can be purchased on perpetual license. Ver 12 with the last available update 12.03 is good but it lacks many enhancements that were offered exclusively to Creative Cloud subscribers.
    Edge Web Fonts integration
    Fluid grid layout enhancements
    New HTML5 form input types
New form elements for jQuery Mobile
    Enhancements to Edge Animate workflow
    Updates to PhoneGap workflow
    Other changes and improvements
    http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/whats-new-dreamweaver-creative-cloud-release-feb- 2013.html
CC (DW 13) was released in mid 2013.  It is a different product with different min-requirements.
    CC Tech Specs
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/tech-specs.html
    What's new in CC
    http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/whats-new.html
The main advantages to the subscription model are:
You have access to both CS6 and CC.
You get regular product updates/upgrades that are not available to perpetual license users.
You can install products on up to 2 computers at a time, Win/Mac or both so if you change platforms, you don't have to purchase new software.
